It's not like Dell is manufacturing these motherboards. What's available to Dell is available to Apple...

as for why not a MacBook with these specs... yeah, the price is not given, but it's presumably high. :)

13 inch Macbook Pro?

This makes a minor MBP revision that much more unacceptable. It needs three things to make me happy:

- Completely new case design
- LED screen
- Santa Rosa

If any of these three are missing, no worries I will get a MB and iPhone instead. Either way I will be happy but one thing is for sure, the current MBP is not anywhere near worth $2000 [the thought Apple would raise the price for LED screens or anything else for that matter is laughable] and neither would a minor upgrade in speed.

:apple:

Anyone know what the display's resolution is? What would a MBP resolution be with LED? Same or better?

The backlighting makes no difference, but some hope the laptops' resolutions to increase due to Leopard's upcoming resolution independence :)

A dedicated video card?

Don't forget the physical thickness.

will other players begin to use LED, or they should give it up in order to avoid being called photocopier ? lol

seriously, LED is good, and Dell is doing good indeed on this.

Article also mentions HDMI. :) I hope this is included or at least an option for new MacBook Pros! I would buy one then.

apple does not follow, and apple does not copy.......

LOL, I do indeed hope they do tho.

I wonder what the battery life is like with LED backlighting and a 32GB SSD...

All manufacturers will progress to LED backlights. It'll be slow but it's the progress of the technology.

I like the idea of HDMI.

It would be nice but it wouldn't stop me from buying like the other three. My reasons for the demands:

- I do not like the case design, not only for looks but it does not feel very solid [metal painted silver always seemed silly to me, I understood with the Titanium though why it was done.] This is why I was happy to read the rumor half a year ago they were working on stronger thinner enclosures.

- Like the case, the displays were top of the line three or four years ago but today they are dated and poor quality compared to other high end notebooks. The LED display is needed to justify the $2000 pricetag.

- If the above two are done, I see no reason why a speed bump would not occur too in the form of Santa Rosa.

I don't think I'm asking for the world here, just for Apple to put the MBP back in line with similar priced models.

:apple:

Oh be quiet, just because you can't get what you want from Apple today.

Personally, a 13.3 inch screen isn't appealing, I want a 12".

agreed. Captain winey pants doesn't know what he's talking about. Apple is getting left behind in the computer world? Think again.

I don't know if a 12" screen would be enough REAL ESTATE for my use, but I suppose there are some apps that it would still be useful for. My main concern would be keyboard size and screen perspective.

At least it means that it is possible, if not plausable, for the new MBP or MB to have these specs, if not better...

I think I am most surprised to see a slot-loader coming from Dell. I think it also is another indication that they're taking this XPS line as a serious chance to change their design headset.

this "rumor" is a total waste of bandwidth usage! I've got a much better "rumor" and it comes straight from the horses mouth. I've submitted it, but nothing yet.

Options, Options!

"Optional NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS / 128MB"

I love the simplicity of Apple's lineup, but the lack of an option to upgrade out of the integrated video card is my only major gripe about the MacBooks.

I'd also like to second (or third?) the comment about HDMI. I was sad to see the S-Video connection leave the MBP lineup. Not everyone is going to have an Apple TV, so I'd like to have a way to get the content off of my laptop and onto a TV while I'm away from the home.

This is an impressive setup. Anyone know where I can get a reverse bootcamp to put OSX on a PC?

You're telling us that Apple don't design their own motherboards or request certain specs from motherboard manufacturers and get them custom made for them? If they all get the same stuff how come Apple's laptops are consistently thinner and lighter than anything else on the market and all the input ports are to Apple's design?
