I matter because i'm a customer. And judging by the 1% market share, they don't offer what 99% of other customers want either. I reckon Apple will be out of the computer business within 5 years and only sell gadgets and phones.

I asked for a source, not for you to continue blathering on about a supposed 1% market share, then solidifying your argument with a crackpot statement.

1997 called, they want your predictions back.

If the MBPs are updated tmmw, expect a ridiculously puny update. If not, expect a more major one in a week.

Thicker, lighter, faster. Its 1.33 in. Macbook is a mere 1.06. Its nice, but atleast get the facts straight.

Oops, sorry, I apologize.

Although it is a bit thicker, the only reason someone would go for the macbook over this is because 1) they must have OS X (which is likely if the person owned a mac before this, and which is less likely if they are coming over from PC, unless they want to switch) and 2) because the dell may be less expensive. Minus the design (which I can't even confirm because I haven't seen it), the macbook doesn't really have an edge on this machine. Hopefully this will change tomorrow!

For all the people asking why the MacBook can't have these specs....

It's because the MacBook has a price point ranging from $1000-1500. There is no way in hell that a machine like this new XPS is going to be any less than $2000...... and probably a couple hundred more.

Specs-wise this is more along the lines of Sony's premium SZ models, which are in the $2250-2800 range.

Did you even see how the current XPS M1210 prices out at stock?

That Dell looks good. It has all the right parts. But what will it actually cost with all the options that we are all hoping for the next MBP?

Regardless, if Dell has one of these in the pipeline, then so does Apple. Who will be first to market will be the question. And knowing how tight lipped :apple: is, although we just saw a Dell marketing mock-up, we could be BUYING SR MBP's really soon.

I could care less who is first out of the gate with this technology. I want it in my next :apple: purchase. I can wait a couple of months for it.

nice spec

that is a nice laptop. size, speed, gpu - dedicated. i like the option mobile carrier solution as well. it is a dell thus no osx and while it looks nice, it is not sleek as in macbook sleek but that is the sort of on top of the state of the art that it would be nice to see the macbook and macbook pro take. naturally, a macbook pro with higher gpu etc (hd) whatever you want, but - no more small bumps will be forgiven.

The macbooks got a price drop, speed bump, and increased baseline RAM and HD sizes...it would be great if the same happened for the Pros :)

just checked that out: amazing price. it is sad how the apple books and all pro models are prices competitively in the pro arena, but the non-pro stuff aka macbook is somewhat overpriced. it is as if apple is charging extra for the old combo drive, the skimpy 512mb ram, the lack of extra ports and of course, the big 950 gma.

no sense does it make

Mac rumors?

Dear MacRumors please can we stick to news about Apple products.
If this continues then this forum will become seriously diluted and full of opposing fanboys flaming each other.
We surley cannot talk about every product that emerges from every competitor to Apple....even if they are somewhat similar.
Mahalo.

I, for one, can't wait to be forced to buy twice as much vastly overpriced RAM that I'll just have to replace. :D

Apple need to pull their finger out.

The Intel transition was one of the slickest moves I've ever seen in the industry, and resulted in a stellar, classic line up of laptops and desktops (IMHO).

But since the announcement of the iPhone, they've let their computer line stagnate, and the competition is catching up.

I hope they pull a large number of impressive looking rabbits out of the hat at the WWDC. For their and for our sakes

Agreed - yes, PLEASE!

No Dell on this site...

Wasteland this one...

This makes a minor MBP revision that much more unacceptable. It needs three things to make me happy:

- Completely new case design
- LED screen
- Santa Rosa

If any of these three are missing, no worries I will get a MB and iPhone instead. Either way I will be happy but one thing is for sure, the current MBP is not anywhere near worth $2000 [the thought Apple would raise the price for LED screens or anything else for that matter is laughable] and neither would a minor upgrade in speed.

:apple:

Then you can go ahead and place your Macbook order today. There will be no completely new case design.

apple does not follow, and apple does not copy.......

LOL, I do indeed hope they do tho.

Well, you're right. These changes to the mobile Apple lines are inevitable though. We also have to keep in mind that this Dell machine isn't in production -- Apple could surprise us tomorrow with new laptops incorporating these technologies -- produced and ready for sale. Apple has rarely given "sneak peaks" -- most computer releases are surprises.

I'd love to see a 12" MBP tomorrow. The MacBook case just isn't what my Powerbook G4's used to be.
