I don't think it will immediately replace the 13 cMBP, even with a 13 rMBP. I think they will discontinue the 15 and 14 cMBP next year.

Most college students get the 13" MBP because it's the cheapest, non-refurbished laptop Apple currently sells. Unless you're an engineering or graphic design student, a 13" MBP will be more than enough.

the 13" Pro has never been the cheapest non-refurbished laptop that Apple has sold; the 11" MacBook Air and the white MacBook before it have always sold at a cheaper price. It is, however, the cheapest Mac with an optical drive, which was the basis of my point.

Part of that is the 13" MBP has more power than the polycarb MacBook and MBA. 13" is also a respectable screen size. I met a student with an 11" MBA once. Next to my 15" MBP, it was so unbelievably cute.

Interesting that the benchmark speed between this alleged 13" MBPR and the current 2.9 GHz i7 13" MBP is almost identical at 7800ish.

If it's legit, then that means that the SSD doesn't really give it much of a speed bump at all. Then again, 2.6 Ghz 15" MBP vs MBPR aren't drastically different, there is only a 200 point or so difference...

I guess the $500ish premium is really just for the monitor and the lightweightness (offset slightly by no ODD). My guess/hope is that premium is $200 for the 13" MBPR (so $1799).
