Hell no!!!!
Apple can keep it where the sun don't shine if that price point is true.
Helllllllllllllllllll nnnnnoooooo!

what a waste.

Only way these prices ever drop is if people don't buy them.

Can build an outstanding PC with all the bells and whistles that blow these models out the water.

Prices are to insane.

So you can build a laptop with a screen res. of 2560x1600?

UK Pricing estimate 13-Inch Retina MPB

I can already see this happening
£1399 for base model (128GB), £1649 for the high spec model (256GB).

Gives it the same £250 premium between the two models like the non-retina 13-Inch MBP.

I was expecting it to be $1499, right on par with the high end non-retina model... $1699 is pretty outrageous for a 13" laptop with integrated graphics (I'm going to assume they'll be integrated).

i emailed tips@macrumors.com 2 days ago because I think i saw the 13" MBP briefly on apple.com that day then it went away. i think strting price was $1799 for the 13".

Well, fair price really.

As long as it's the same specs as the $1499 one but with ~128gb flash storage then you're paying $100 more for the retina screen because the $1499 model with apple's 128gb of flash is $1599.

I agree with this pricing, im sure it will be just like that. i'd be hoping for 8gb ram and a discrete graphics card or else its just too much to ask for the power available irrespective of what chip is in it.

Too costly and a boring product. Not even SSD or flash storage.

What are we, in the Dark ages
Yawn.

It is flash storage. You are looking at the non retina. What are you in? Even cave men could read cave paintings.

probably going to be higher for the iMac too like that previous rumor lately. Oh crap... This might just see me through to Windows. Already on the edge enough as it is.

The price is something I could stomach spending, For me it will hinge on what graphics chip will be powering retina display.

The current 13" MacBook Pros are vastly overpriced so I don't think it's fair to say XXX above seems reasonable. The base 13" MacBook Pro should be closer to $999 than $1199 with that awful resolution, integrated graphics, and a slow 5400 rpm hard drive.

Why would students want a Retina display?

Not to mention they can probably just afford the non-Retina with the discount. This will push the "discount" over the edge.

Would this mean people will pay more attention to their Macs, than their school work..?

Sounds just about right to me. It won't be a base model and the screen is going to be amazing. The smaller chassis plus two Thunderbolt ports and HDMI out. Awesome.

I'll be seriously considering one once it comes out and I get to look at it.

I seriously don't hope that information is correct. If so, I might have to reconsider wanting to buy the Retina 13-inch.

If you ask me, it should cost about the same as the higher specc'ed non-Retina 13-inch, just as the 15-inch Retina costs the same as the higher specc'ed non-Retina 15-inch. Even then, you have to take into consideration that it probably won't have a dedicated graphics chip as the 15-inch has, that should at least take the edge off the pricing.

agreed OR if there is a vastly improved set of drivers that take full advantage of the integrated since the drivers for the 15" are very poor at utilising the hardwares actual capabilities.

I think it's priced as expected for an Apple laptop with SSD and a high resolution display (with integrated graphics I suspect). Sure that's a lot of money, but it fits nicely into the existing lineup. Coming years will drive the price down but for now early adopters will pay a premium.

Looking forward to seeing some specs, for the new iMacs and Minis too.

maybe for that price they will put a dedicated graphics card inside... man was I pissed when they didn't announce a retina 13 inch at the last mac keynote, but now I am happy I got the 13 inch MacBook Air instead. what a nice machine...

Just got thru the educational store and save about $100 or so. Discovercard gives 5% back via their store. In the end doesn't amount to that much more but yah still a bit pricey for a 13"

Yawn.

I'm sure the 13" rMacBook pro will get an SSD as a standard. The problem is SSD is still very costly so you got stucked on 128GB. If you want more storage you'll pay premium on top of that $1700 price tag ouch. IHMO the only benefit you'll get is the hiRes display. I would say I'll just get an iMac and the retina iPad.

The Add, 500 or 750 rpm. sloooooooow HD.

Next they will be adding floppy drives

Reading comprehension: FAIL! Go back to school.

This is a picture of the current model. Apple did not even announce anything yet! At this point, everything is pure speculation.
