I haven't used Sierra. You might tried first install Mojave in external drive. Also, look at the battery drains during sleep (which become common issue). It's quite tricky to solve that (fortunately I did). Sometimes, Metal 2 in Mojave is more responsive than El Capitan, but in many cases its slower.

That's what I was thinking as well. Or, perhaps my expectations were too high. All I know is that performance lags at default and there is still a performance hit even turning off some of the graphics functions.

Word and iTunes open more slowly. Pinball arcade is very laggy. I finally got it to work after at least a half dozen crashes. And it's not an especially demanding program.

I updated to iOS 12 with no problems on my iPad. I noticed little if any difference before and after. I suppose I'm especially sensitive to the performance of my computer since I use it so often.

Updating to .14 took a few hours of my day which is why I'd be miffed to revert to .12 after just a day. Seems like a waste of time.

As you might be able to guess I am very very frustrated with this update. I'm 50/50 on reinstalling .12. I don't get the whoa this is cool factor at all, which I totally expected. Instead, I have a 'crap why did I upgrade' feeling and it's not fun at all.

I'll wait for some confirmation that time machine can be used to reinstall and revert to .12 and then it's probably a go within a week.

I'm still at a loss as to how apple can invest two years of development and come up with two consecutive crappy system updates. It's difficult not to suspect that apple's employees are of lower and lower quality with each passing year. Arent they the most prestigious brand in the world? Can't they attract a higher caliber of recruits?

This update and the terrible reviews for high Sierra have me very confused and frustrated.

With all of the money they have, shouldn't apple be collabing with Tesla to establish colonies on mars? I can't even play a pinball simulation that doesn't lag and it's 2018!
As a test, I'd suggest going over to the Users & Groups control panel, making a brand new user account, restarting and then logging into that account. Don't bother attaching it to your Apple ID (you don't want it slowing down syncing your stuff) -- and then from there play around and see if you run into the same problems in that "virgin" account.

I started running into lots of slowdowns and weirdness on my iMac 5K under Mojave and realized my main user account was like 5+ years old and had been migrated in from my old Mac Mini. I bit the bullet and created a new one and set it up from scratch, and it's MUCH smoother and faster. I think over time old crap accumulates and slows things down.

When I made the transition from Yosemite to Sierra I noticed a big improvement in speed and general snappiness. I am still on Sierra and have been considering switching to Mojave for a while now. So, from your experience, do you think I should remain on Sierra for a little longer? Is Mojave generally slower?

I upgraded my wife's Macbook Pro on Tuesday so it is still too early to tell if the move to Mojave has been successful or not, but in my limited testing it was as fast as (if not slightly faster than) Sierra and I have heard no complaints about speed from her. I will continue to monitor the situation and post back in a couple of weeks.

I decided to take the plunge and upgrade from Sierra to Mojave. The installation went fine and I have to say that overall, I am loving the Dark Mode so far. It did take me by surprise a bit with iTunes. I thought the Dark Mode looked a bit strange with that. I would imagine that perhaps, in time, Apple with give further options to apply Dark Mode to only the apps you wish to use it for. Certainly in Finder I think it looks great and being able to change the accent colours is another nice little touch. I like being able to customise little details like that.

Speed-wise; I haven’t noticed any difference yet between Mojave and Sierra and it’s too early yet to tell if it has changed battery life. I hope it hasn’t. I did think it was odd that it installed 10.14.2 and then when I checked System Updates it immediately asked if I wanted to upgrade to 10.14.3. Why didn’t it just install that to begin with? It is no big deal I guess.

Apple updates the MAS installer in their own time schedule. It will eventually be 10.14.3.

I installed High Sierra 10.13.6 instead of Mojave on my rMBP 2014. Used to install Mojave in 10.14.3 but having issues on battery drain. I gave up and install HS which solid and very good battery.

Hi Apple_Glen_UK and everyone,
Have you identified some battery drain in the end ?
On my side, I hesitate to make the leap to Mojave :) (I'm pretty late I guess haha)
Best,

Best,

I went to .2 of Mojave with a clean install (no TM transfer) and still had issues with significant battery drain overnight, but I was able to resolve with manual pmset commands.

Mojave has been rock solid Since. Far more stable than High Sierra.

Best,

Battery life has been just as good for me on Mojave as with Sierra. My machine came installed with Yosemite and I experienced several KP’s with that but with Mojave it has been excellent. No problems whatsoever and I will not be going near Catalina.

I’m still on the fence with my 13 inch 2017 MacBook Pro... It came with and still has Sierra. Will I notice any difference in speed if I jump to Mojave? Ive never updated it before. I’m a little nervous.

Experienced battery drain when in .1 - .3 version. Have no issue at all in last version (10.14.6). MBP 2014 13" 8gb/256. Fresh install.
