I use my 13 Pro in a lot of places and having to buy a smart plug for all those places just to extend the life another year would be more expensive than a $69 battery swap. It doesn’t make sense for me and for the added convenience of having to care about one less thing is well worth the price.
Like I said, many ways to charge your phone. Use the one that works best for you. It is called options. For someone who does not care about battery health, you sure do spend a lot of time in battery health threads. And you spend a lot of time telling everyone that they should not care about battery health at all.

Just like you spend your time repeatedly trying to convince people to get a smart plug and follow your 80/20 rule?
Or the time when you took your time to scroll through App Store reviews for NextDNS for that lone 1 star review where someone complained about not being able to remove the profile when you yourself never even tried it?

I come on these threads to learn about new things. Some of my friends own the 12 Series and this is where I got the info that the battery issue for the series had been quite prevalent. I only say not to worry about battery when you have an Apple store nearby and spending $69 on a battery doesn’t affect someone. If that’s not an issue then going thru all these extra steps isn’t going to add to your quality of life.
I’m adding my two cents here just like yourself and others. You shouldn’t be personally offended by a differing opinion.

The difference here is that I don’t tell others that what they are doing is not worth it. I am not offended by any other opinions. Quite the opposite I learn new things from others. That is why I am in threads like this one.

My launch day 13 Pro just dropped down to 99% battery health this week. I do mostly wireless charging. Only time I charge via cable is in the car.
In the past three weeks my battery health as dropped another 2% to 97%.

Just dropped to 98% after about two months, I know it barely matters but I just leave it overnight and am surprised it's going down like this even with Optimized Charging turned on.

Yet the battery health is still at 100% (as it’s still brand new of course) and I’m only charging via MagSafe… Phone does heat up a bit, this can’t be good I think.

I don’t charge overnight.

I think it's the wireless charging that is killing the battery due to heat.
I agree as I tend to charge mostly wireless. It's annoying, but I don't really care since I am on the iPhone Upgrade program and generally upgrade every year. If I decide to keep it it has AppleCare and the battery will get replaced when it hits 80%. If I outright purchased the phone I would be more upset.

I don’t want to unnecessarily damage the battery more than I have to.

You guys think, I should switch to cable charging?

The 40% - 80% Lie

Don’t bother babying your battery. Life is too short for that kind of nonsense. Don’t let your phone dictate your behaviour… I charge at night, all night, every night and don’t have to worry about charging my phone during the day.

The ONLY rule I follow is avoid running the battery to 0%. That genuinely does accelerate battery degradation. It’s my only rule and it’s an easy one to follow.

You’re right but I mean regarding the MagSafe charging? It doesn’t make a difference using MagSafe or the cable…

What’a for sure that the phone warms up during wireless charging and even when it’a done it keeps warm lol!

I’ve always followed the avoiding 0% rule.

I’ve found an (new) iPhone once in my company that sat for 2 years in the Warehouse. The battery was totally drained, it took like 30 minutes until it finally turned on.
Health said 100% and it lastet just as long as you would expect from a new phone.

I'm still at 100% with launch 13 pro max. I’ll be impressed after 6 months if it still says 100%. When comparing to my 12 pro max around April-May 2021 started dropping a percentage what seemed like every two weeks.

The MagSafe charging pad, which I use half the time, does produce more heat than a standard charger. That is because it’s a fast charger and is less efficient than using a wired charger which means more energy is lost as heat is produced.

It might be slightly worse to your battery health using the MagSafe charging pad but it’ll be minimal and imperceptible. I don’t think anyone has run any lab tests to prove one way or another.

Either way, I won’t be losing any sleep over it.

My launch pro max is down to 92% already. Drops a percent every couple of weeks. So annoying that apple won‘t do anything about this until it hits 80%.

I use wireless charging - not an Apple-certified one but a cheapo 5W one that I bought on Amazon. My 13 Pro - purchased after launch - is still at 100%. Are there any downsides to using a cheapo wireless charger?

My launch day 13 Pro’s battery health suddenly dropped from 100% to 92% within one month since late February, it happened around the same time in the same fashion on my iPhone 12 Pro Max last year.

From the experience of both my 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro, it will mysteriously stop dropping at around 92%. LOL. I really don’t know what happened.

No. It’s a Qi certified charger so it’ll work fine with your phone. Apple didn’t have their own charger until the MagSafe puck was released. I have one and love it, but it’s a fast charger. I used to use a Belkin charger with my iPhone 8 which was pretty great too.

The battery health indicator is just a rough estimation, people should not get hung up on a stat that isn’t particularly meaningful. I am at 85% and have been sitting there for months now on my 12 Mini. My iPhone 8 dropped to 85% quickly also then moved very slowly, over the span of a year, to 83% which is where it was at when I retired it.

Thanks! At first, I was not convinced that I needed wireless charging, but after giving it a try with the cheap one, I am sold. It is so easy just to place it down on your desk when you are not using it. Later, I got a powerbank with a magsafe charger built-in so now my lightning cable just sits in my desk even when I travel.

Got mine last year on Sept 19th, the battery life is now sitting at 95%, it was 97% around 2 weeks ago, and around 99% 2 months ago.

I have optimized charging turned on, and keep my phone on wireless charger during the day and I don't charge it during bed time... I've been doing this since my iPhone X and its battery life is still at 84% after 4 years.

I have no idea what is causing my ip13 pm to drop its battery life so rapidly all the sudden within the past 2 months, especially I only use it for messaging and web browsing only, I don't even play game on it. At this rate, I guess I'm gonna trade it in for an iPhone 14 pm later this year...?
