My iPhone can scratch extremely easy and there is no screen design protection from small drops, the Ceramic coating is BS it does nothing. I am the most careful person and really disappointed with how easy damage can occur.

I’ve seen this phone move and slip from surfaces that have the tiniest of gradients, be warned, cover your lovely looking iPhone with an ugly case.

Here endeth the lesson.
Well of course and obvious, my point is the 13 Pro Max with Ceramic coating is offering zero protection to scratches compared to previous models that have no coating.

The ceramic coating is aimed at minimizing shattering. Something that’s a lot more expensive to fix. Scratches can easily be avoided with a $2 screen protector.
That’s not true the ceramic coating is also for eliminating scratching, my point is this the worse model phone to date for picking up scratches and reducing cracks from a simple drop, it has is step forward like they are claiming.

This is why a tempered glass protector goes on the second I peel away the one placed on the screen when it’s packaged.
And so does mine however this phone model is more likely to scratch or crack than previous models without any protection, that’s the point I am making. There is no step forward like Apple claim to reducing this, the ceramic coating offers nothing.

I don’t know where you are but we do BestBuy’s Lifetime Glass. I think it’s $35 up front which is excessive but 4 times a year, we go in and they replace the glass. That includes installation. It breaks or gets very scratched and they put a new one on. Then I peel the screen protector off and sell the iPhone with a perfect screen.

What is a "small drop"?
If the phone slipped or moved from the tiniest of gradients, then you had set it on a surface unstable for the phone - simple as that.
I can't see where any slip, drop, or anything but gentle handling WOULDN'T do SOME kind of damage unless it falls on a pillow or carpet!
That's what cases and screen covers are for.
Sounds like you damaged your phone before you dressed it up.
That would upset me too, but it's not the phones fault.

I’m on a 12 Pro Max. I have lots of micro scratches and scuffs but can barely notice them (only see them when screen is off in the right light). I used to use screen protectors but gave them up— they always seem to interfere with the sensitivity of touch display. I also liberally and routinely use 70% alcohol to sanitize the display of my phone. Still going strong here after a a year plus with no noticeable scratches. And I also throw my phone in pockets with sharp objects a lot. TMI FWIW.

I gotta say, since 2009 I have owned an iPod Touch, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 5, iPhone 6s, iPhone XR, and iPhone 12.

Never scratched any of them, have had a screen protector for a marginal amount of time during all these years, am always really careful about my things, and the first one that got scratched ? iPhone 12.

I didn't even get out of my house a lot with this phone, so if anything, it's the one that has had the least chances to damage. I have no idea how the scratch happened either.

Point out where Apple states the coating on the glass reduces the ocuurance of scratches.

Nope. In fact, more shatter-resistant would usually mean less scratch-resistant. It's a trade-off.

You should tell that to the Apple. They seem to think otherwise...

Where are you getting your info? Look back in the forums about scratching on 11 models. You’ll find hundreds of posts complaining about the same thing.
It’s Deja Vu all over again.

I’ve had mine since launch. As someone who has the most vulnerable iPhone due to size (13 PM) and doesn’t use a case or screen protector I have zero micro scratches let alone scratches or dings to my phone. Used in the gym, jean pockets, cup holders, desks, etc.

Guess I’m the most careful person and not you ha. This is by far the most durable iPhone when it comes to scratches.

No where does it say it's become better in terms of scratch resistance. They're just claiming some scratch resistance is available.

"We also wanted to make it scratch resistant." There are two ways to interpret this sentence:

1) the iPhone 11 and previous models have NO scratch resistance AT ALL. And the 12 is the 1st iPhone to even think about it.

2) the iPhone 12 has BETTER scratch resistance than previous iPhones.

It seems you think that in the prior 11 years of making a full glass screen device with Gorilla glass they've never thought about scratch resistance before this Ceramic Shield, and thus now "some scratch resistance is available".

I think the 2nd choice makes more sense...

What do you think?
