I got a 13 Pro Max 3 weeks ago knowing the new ones were coming. I see noting worth upgrading for.
Hopefully you got a really good price because if you’d have waited a few more weeks you’d have saved quite a lot on a second hand one. In my experience I find the mobile contract deals weeks before the iPhone is announced are generally very competitive.

This year I won’t be upgrading because I’ll use the savings to keep the house warm instead. Same with my watch, I managed to snag a very good price on a SS AW7 a few months ago second hand that was so new I could add AppleCare to it. I don’t need to monitor my monthly cycle so there isn’t much point in upgrading this year, which may come as a shock to some people and is perfectly ok.

Basically if you have the cash then you go for it, right now for me personally luxury items are on hold until after the winter.

On the fence. Main reason for me to upgrade is that my 12 Pro Max battery life is beginning to be an issue and the only time I did a 3 year refresh was from X to 12 Pro Max and that proved to be a year too long as the final year with the X was pretty dismal battery life. My 12 Pro Max should get more life out of it, but if I can do an upgrade via Verizon for around $300, then I probably will.
An apple battery replacement is quite cheap compared to a new phone, even accounting for any second hand price you’ll get.

I’m upgrading. Apple is offering me 2/3 of what I paid for my 13PM for trade-in and I think the much improved cameras (including front camera), refreshed design, A16 processor, and always-on display are worth the $379 upgrade cost. Especially since it also gets me a fresh battery and another year of warranty coverage.

I just wonder what the real world difference on the camera will be. Will it truly be a noticeable improvement on photos?

From the 13 Pro Max probably not in most cases. I really wanted 10x zoom. I can’t believe Apple is waiting so long to do this. It looks amazing on the S22 Ultra.

Refreshed design? Really??

Sticking to my 13 Pro Max.
I think if you value:
- Always on Display
- Photography (new 48MP main senor, new ultra wide and new Selfie)
By selfie camera you mean the Smudgie camera? Because that’s what it’ll be when you’re playing with your dynamic island all day…

I think as harsh as we being on the iPhone launch, and I say this every year, apples strength (one of) is that they don’t drastically change each year which ensures your expensive investment isn’t outdated really quickly. This is further backed by their long iOS support.
I have a 13PM and I’m glad the new one doesn’t make mine obsolete. For starters I’d start trying other brands if it did, but it also makes upgrading every few years more palatable.
iPhone 14 is a win for new buyers and current owners alike.
This!!!💯
The fact that the A15 chip is now in the iPhone 14 and that the A16 seems to be mostly focused on efficiency mixed with the fact that the phone has not dramatically changed makes it very palatable.

I always say, you can literally pick up an iPhone that was released +/-3years ago and know that you will be good.

I would probably still be using my Xs Max right now if it was not stolen.

To be honest I upgrade every year pretty much because I want to. Looking forward to the camera upgrades for sure. Dynamic Island looks like a "fun" feature that acts as an always-available app switcher of sorts.
Me too …. I always get a good price on my used phone or hand it to a family member. So the cost to change is reasonable. My 13PM will become a 14PM.

Only quandary is colour.

I’m upgrading since I am on the apple upgrade program. No point not to.
I like the new “Dynamic Island” and also the improved camera features.
The screen is seeing a minor upgrade and battery life should be more or less the same.

Not for me...

Looked at the specs; watched the release but it's still not wanting me to change to the IP 14 Pro Max

I've literally just got another 13 Pro Max because I'm stupid and sold my last one after a few months 😂

I'm not a power user; it sits on my desk at home all day whilst I work and it's used for calls/messaging and pictures etc

Sending it back and paying through the nose (IMO) for the equivalent 14 Pro Max doesn't make sense to me right now; I may look at it further down the line though

Plus Alpine Green is a superb colour; the latest colours look naff to me!

I upgrade every day. I just buy the base 128gb version now. Apple gives $720 trade in (it was $780 last year) plus gives u taxes backs. ($50). So I will get around $770 total credit applied towards $1100 iphone pro max

So $1099

The cost to use the iPhone pro max is roughly $300 a year.

I write off the entire $1200 purchase (business expense). Cause I own my own business. So it’s really “free” for me after tax deductions to get new phone every year.

Now that‘s just excessive.

I am on the fence, always on display is the only feature I would really like. A little underhand of apple to restrict this to just the new phones as 13 pro/pro max could support it.

On the other hand I prefer the blue of the 12 pro to any of the new colours.

This is one of the main reasons I'm thinking of not upgrading, think the purple colour is naff, the black whatever they are calling it isn't proper black, only colour that would appeal would be Silver but I'm not 100% on that, the green 11 Pro and Blue 12 Pro have been the best colours IMO in recent years

The trade in value doesn’t take in account the storage size. A 1TB 13 PM with AppleCare+ was $1700+. So I think those with base storage 13PM will be far more inclined to upgrade.

For me (1TB 13PM) I’m not seeing the 14PM worth $900. Next year the 15 will be amazing.

From a year to year basis this might be one of the best upgrades from the last 5 years.

Though you still shouldn't update your iPhone every year and this year is no exception. Though you're less of an idiot if you do it this year than usual. ;)
