softwareupdate-150x150.jpg

Apple just released new firmware updates for the full range of Macs released in 2011, which apparently all fix the same issues.
This update improves the reliability of booting from the network, addresses an issue that can prevent HDCP authentication after a reboot, and resolves an issue with boot device selection when a USB storage device is hot-plugged.
The software updates are:

- Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 - Mac mini (Mid 2011)

- iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.9 - iMac (Early 2011)

- MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.4 - MacBook Air (Mid 2011)

- MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7 - MacBook Pro (Early 2011) and (Late 2011)

Awesome! It's nice to see that Apple is fixing these issues.

Although, I hope that the 2010 Macs will also see this update.

The update weighs in at 3.6MB for my 2011 iMac. No issues after installation. Let's hope this is a "find out there's a bug later"-free update, especially since it's the firmware!

My 2011 MBP didn't (re)start after shut down. I had to manually start it again. But so far so good.

My MacBook Air got the update, but my 2011 Mac Mini hasn't gotten it yet, doesn't show up for updates.

Success on my Mac Mini 2011..

Um, that picture is under NDA. Unless you are not in the Dev program and then you just posted you have illegal software on your Mac. *wags finger*

EDIT: I should have added the *sarcasm* tag to my post. I really don't give a flying freak what anyone does. More power to you, I actually think ML is going to be okay, it just won't run on my older MacBook.

My mid-2011 Mac Mini froze while validating update package (I waited several minutes).

I used rear button to power down and restart.

LED on front flickered (presumably while installing firmware update) then proceeded to boot, which took ages (as it always does) then immediately restarted itself again before displaying login screen.

At this point I was worried it would endlessly retry to boot, but then after another age, it booted successfully, and seems fine now.

I checked for Software Updates, and nothing was reported so I assume the firmware update was applied successfully (even if it wasn't as seamless as I would hope).

Protip: no one cares.

Doesn't matter. You can't do that software update in 10.8. He may think he did but there's a known bug in the software update.

If he can prove to me that he did it that way I'd sure like to see the proof.

You must have a slow internet connection. My safari seems good, if not, better.

I was being sarcastic mate.

He is one of x thousand people who will post screenshots from Mountain Lion before it is released publicly.

This just made my day. Lol. Glad I'm not a drink snarfer.

Happy to be of assistance.

The reason behind me posting a screenshot was to show that I did not have any issues updating EFI Firmware on Mountain Lion..

The EFI Boot Rom version has been updated from the original MM51.0077.B0F to MM51.0077.B10.. Not trying to con anybody, just thought would be nice to share for those running the developer preview of Mountain Lion..

Also having using Mountain Lion the minute it was released to developers, I can tell you that software updates do indeed work, apart from this EFI update I did do updates for iWork and they were successful..

I hope Mountain Lion breaks your Mac Mini.

Why? Also not possible btw, an operating system cannot break a Mac.. The firmware's that are released are meant to work on supported Mac's..

I didn't mean physically snapping the thing in two. Christ, some people take things far too seriously.

Got the update for my mid-2010 MBP.

Phew, I was getting worried you wouldn't get it there for a minute.
