Longhorn official name = Windows Vista >

So there’s been some buzz on this and now it’s looking confirmed by a few insider sources — the official name for the new Microsoft Longhorn operating system is going to be Windows Vista. As in “a view into the distance” which surely refers to the prolonged development timeline of the OS (ouch, we had to.). Look for the official announcement tomorrow morning.

[Thanks, Mitch]

MS is soo good at naming things....not!

sure setting themselves up to flop this time in my opinion

My question is who though that would be a good name?!? But then who though Windows was a good idea? I guess XP doesn't mean anything either. But if this report is right, I'm really going to laugh at all my PC friends.

Don't think its a good name myself, but if I was one of your PC friends... I would promtly kick you in the balls, and then laugh while your rolling on the floor because I don't control what MS uses for their names; nor could I contol my forceful leg spasms.

Hasta la vista, Windows!

Hahaha.

Anyway. Windows Vista? Crappy name for an OS I prefer Longhorn. At the moment I don't really see this being the name for it; Sounds too much like the credit card 'visa'.

Wow, that's a pretty bad name.
The creativity level at MS hasn't improved much ...

I hope the OS has improved at least, even if not in name.
And no, eye-candy does not count as improvement.

windows XP was a pretty good name. Windows Experience... but i experienced windows and went to Mac.

as for Vista? that just sounds a little naff. infact im going to ask my windows buddies what they think of that name just to be sure we're not being biased ;) i can honestly imagine them loving it  or not.

The Longhorn designation has been around soooooo long now, that they should have at least considered using it. Now folks will have to get used to the new name.

Regardless of what they call it... even if it was a cool name, it can't change the fact that it is likely to be bloated, full of security holes, and a poor imitation of OSX.

A rose by any other name... so to speak, only it is hardly a rose.

I can hear the pitch now:

"Go beyond the Windows and see the whole Vista of possibility spread out before you."

They should probably name it Screen instead. That speaks volumes about the security features we can expect to see exploited.
