I think by then it’ll likely be M2, but can’t wait to find out!It will not be branded M1X or anything like that.
I could see the iMac colours being done on future Macbook Airs, but the new iPad Pros are proof that pro means 'pro' colour options i.e. Silver, Space Gray, and maybe even darker space gray.please please please give us the same colours as the new iMacs for the MacBook Pro. I need a pink MBP so bad. The grey and silver are so bloody boring. Imagine matching the MBP to airpods max, would be perfect.
I would love to see all the way up to 128gb for ram, it is an investment in longevity. I think it would be cool if they had a slide in M.2 slot to upgrade storage. The GPU part of the chip should have its own dedicated memory. I think 16 cores is a must with better multithreading of the processors. Oh and is should have thunderbolt 5 or at least 4.Would love to see a 16 core chip in these things with a config of up to at least 32GB of memory.
i was thinking this too, but i'm praying for a miracle. After seeing the design aesthetic of the new iMacs, I'm prepared to be disappointed with the new MBPs.
Agree...New iMac=Kitchen computer!...LOLEh, I'm not really sure. The iMac was always a consumer-oriented product. I can see somebody walk into a Best Buy and instantly become mesmerized by an iMac. I also don't particularly like the design of the new iMac, but I do realize that it is a consumer product, meant for, well, consumers. I doubt Apple would make their Pro line look like a toy.
I think the new iMacs use amazing, understated design. Just imagine that square aesthetic in MacBooks with Space Grey/black and white/silver options-- sleek but also modern with a commanding look and feel. Not a fan of all the colorways, but the MacBook Pros will look awesome. After seeing the design aesthetic of the new iMacs, I'm prepared to be disappointed with the new MBPs.
Well it could be done right now on the old MBP too since it's just charging through the TB port which CAN charge and provide data at the same timeThey may give the MBP the ”Ethernet in the power supply” treatment.
And I expect M2 will be literally double the M1 in all respects.
Dear Tim Cook - It is Clear the iPad form factor a low cost High profit design . no upgrades ? no larger screen version . as it stands now the new iMac is iPad with a stand . Please explain this failure
Apple yesterday unveiled a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Liquid Retina XDR display that uses mini-LED backlighting to achieve up to 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness and up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness. With over 10,000 mini‑LEDs grouped into more than 2,500 local dimming zones, the display also has an impressive 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Apple has so far branded its mini-LED displays as "XDR" displays, short for "Extreme Dynamic Range," and rumors suggests the iPad Pro won't be the only Apple device to feature the technology this year.
Taiwanese research firm TrendForce today reported that Apple plans to launch new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with mini-LED displays in the second half of 2021, in line with previous reports. The notebooks are expected to be powered by an Apple silicon chip and feature a new design with the return of an SD card slot and HDMI port.
There is a lot of anticipation for the new high-end MacBook Pro models, as Apple will likely equip the notebooks with an improved iteration of its M1 chip, perhaps with M1X branding or something along those lines. Reputable sources like Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have also claimed that the Touch Bar will be replaced with physical function keys, and that a MagSafe magnetic power cable will return.
As of this week, Apple has updated four Mac models with Apple silicon, including the iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini. Apple previously said that its transition away from Intel processors would be completed by around WWDC 2022.

The iPad Pro 11” doesn’t have XDR with the pro moniker. The iMac is not part of their pro line... MBP may be treated differently.
Does anyone know how they aren’t degrading an Ethernet signal by transmitting up the power cable? Without clean twists you lose bandwidth at Gb and beyond speeds, so I’m wondering how the signal is being brought in that avoids the issue. That would be rather elegant and also logical given you want ethernet at a desk where you can plug in anyway.
My thoughts exactly. It boggles my mind that even Samsung and Dell can knock better looking bezel-less computers off the park than Apple nowadays (even with under-display cameras and all). How about no bezels?![]()
For sure. There is nothing stopping a power supply manufacturer from adding this to a USB-C power supply. The only difference in my (admittedly unoriginal) idea is that Apple would be putting it in the box.Well it could be done right now on the old MBP too since it's just charging through the TB port which CAN charge and provide data at the same time
Before the M1 even launched, the sources said Apple had Apple Silicon chips that were 8 core (4+4), 12 core (8+4), 16 core (12+4), and thats what they had 8 months ago. So far we've only seen one of those chips in a product.I expect the "M2" to have the same layout as the M1 (4/4 CPU,8 GPU) only using TSMC latest fab with the same core design as the A15.
-> 10-20% performance increase
This would end up in the base config for the 14" MBP and maybe a few other places.
Big iMac and 16" MBP (+BTO 14") will either get a M2X with more cores or even separate CPU and GPU chips for the top models.
The chord looked quite beefy. Who is to say what is actually happening under the outer color-coded insulator covering.Does anyone know how they aren’t degrading an Ethernet signal by transmitting up the power cable? Without clean twists you lose bandwidth at Gb and beyond speeds, so I’m wondering how the signal is being brought in that avoids the issue.
With a USB-C only iMac freshly revealed, I just don’t buy they’re going to bring back any ports.
Who is to say the M2 is not already based on the A15 and is what is destined for the MBP's and other Pro Macs? Not sure I like the idea of calling the M1X an M2. I totally get that is the direction they could chose to go, but it is the architecture of the A14. I like the idea of being to keep macs grouped by which core designs they used, if they willy nilly rename the chip based on adding more cores it will add confusion...
not that I don't put it past them to call it the M2, they've questionably named things in the past... though usually not as bad as Microsoft's naming of things....
I would rather see them do something like M1-8 and M1-16.
Or they could all just refer to them as M1 and do the core count breakout like they do M1 with 7 Cores.
