This article's deceptive title is just about moving the fast charging "goalposts." Clickbait. Meh.

Does the 140W adaptor fast charge faster? How do you know the charging circuit in the laptop doesn't limit the charge current (to the included power adaptor's specs)?

So can I not fast charge with the base 14 inch model I bought? (since it only comes with the 67W)
You need to pay the $20 extra to upgrade to the 96W MagSafe Power Brick to "fast charge". But, you can fast charge using MagSafe on the 14", unless I'm mistaken.

My question is, and no one has spoken about this, if the 14 and 16 inch have the same m1 max chip inside why does the 14 inch top out at 96W max, but the 16 inch tops out at 140W max?

Will m1 max be throttled down in the 14 inch enclosure, and consume more peak power (and thus have higher performance) in the 16 inch model?

No one knows yet. Dave2D guesses it might.

Why they bring magsafe back?? When u Can charge with USB-C?
dont understand Why we need this port, instead of they could put one more thunderbolt
Instead of the 4th Thunderbolt port, they put in the SD card slot and HDMI port. The MagSafe doesn't use bus bandwidth.

Wish they’d given me another thunderbolt instead of wasting it on an sd slot and hdmi.
Dedicated ports are useless to a large segment.
I agree, but for the last 5 years Apple provided 4 Thunderbolt ports, and these boards (and reviews) were filled with messages complaining that "Apple doesn't include real ports." I'm sure some people are still upset they didn't put back a USB-A port.

Interesting news, given that the 240w USB standard was approved at the beginning of the year. More evidence that this machine was supposed to come out months ago.

The latest USB Power Delivery spec (3.1 only approved six months ago) goes up to 240 W so future devices will be able to eliminate this restriction.
