Probably mostly people who realized the Pro is overpowered for their workload and prefer a thinner, lighter, more portable laptop with better battery life. Or maybe they just want the midnight color :)
The M2 MacBook Air cannot support more than one external display. It also likely cannot support higher scaled resolutions on certain monitors like ultra-wides.

Oh yea, clearly the Pro has more capabilities. I‘m just saying I could see some Pro users realizing they didnt need or take advantage of all those extra capabilities and wouldnt mind losing them to get the smaller, lighter, more portable package, along with the better battery life (and cooler midnight color) that the Air offers. Definitely trade offs involved, for some it may be worth it.

Any owners of the 14-inch MacBook Pro planning to order the M2 MacBook Air?

I will order on Friday morning and if the keyboard is the equivalent (we've heard absolutely nothing about the keyboard, typists get little respect) I will pass on my 14 inch pro, with 16gb and 512 to someone who needs the power and doesn't notice the weight. My guess is that the people on this thread who can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would do this are decades younger than me, much stronger than me, and don't commute or otherwise carry the thing around as much as I do. The half pound will make a huge difference for me day to day, starting with the decision whether to carry my laptop or my 12.9 iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard. I'd always prefer the laptop. I always prefer the weight of the iPad. The half a pound will make a difference.

I would not.

I have the M1 Pro 16. If the M2 MacBook Air can support higher scaled resolutions I will gladly swap.

Yes good points. Always commuting and traveling. Maybe worth considering. Team silver 😝

Anyone owning a 14-inch MacBook Pro and considering replacing it with an M2 MacBook Air never should've bought the 14-inch MacBook Pro to begin with. Unless chasing the latest Apple thing is what gets you up in the morning. 🤷‍♂️
I use an M1/16" MBP daily and on a whim I bought the 14 MBP, but returned it after a day of use. I'm eagerly waiting for a 15" MBA.

This is me

Why? It was the best fit on the market for me at the time and has now been superseded by something that fits my use case better

Apple must love those type of people flip flopping between products, probably one reason why they have so many options now.
