It seems that the retina MacBook Pros and the retinaMBP are cannibalising each others' sales and doesn't suit the streamlined product line Apple always had.

May be it would be a good idea to do away with the cMBP 13" and 15" and make a classic 14.1" with matte option for the huge China market where 14.1 inch laptop dominates?

Just random thoughts, please don't flame me XP

Not really sure but based on price i would just go one level higher for a 15 or down to the 14.1. There was a 14 macbook but it was not a pro line,

Maybe not for the pro line.
But for the air line, make em both 16:9 and make the bezels smaller so that you get a 12.1inch instead of 11.6 and a 14.1 (1600x900) inch air and a 13 and 15 inch pro.

Personally no. I cant really see apple doing that, but more options would be great, but not at the cost of getting rid of the cMBP.

There must be a reason the bezels are largish on the MBA's. Maybe it has to do with the screen being so very thin. It's unlikely to be a design choice but more of manufacturing limitation.

And don't mention 16:9 here. A lot of people will get angry ;) It's kind of like suggesting a touch screen Mac

Once the cMBP has been discontinued redesigned 14 and 16 inch rMBP (both 16:10) could be released, allowing more space for components compared to 13.3 and 15.4 inch models and satisfying people who miss the size of the 17. Airs could continue to be 11.6 and 13.3 inches at 16:9 and :10 respectively or increase to 12 and 14 inches.

The magic number of 15 has been around for a LONG time. I doubt they just chuck the format. Though I did like the 14" back in the day.

The reasons for 15 being popular (overall device size including bezels and screen resolution as well as the other things like GPU) aren't as limiting any more. 14" can provide as much usable space as the 15" could in a smaller package and include a GPU which the 13" doesn't, and the 16" with reduced bezels would be more capable than the 15" in the same footprint.
