I kind of did the same which was why I was asking! I've switched to a 14" as well... As much as I love the 16" design and that screen, its just too big to use on the move and is a pain when sharing table space, even sitting on the sofa and in bed its unwieldy.

The 16/1TB model I ordered today is still due next Tuesday though which is good.
Wait i thought u got the 16"??

Some first impressions on using the 16" at home on my lap on the couch at home for a few hours:

- This thing really is heavy. On your lap it doesn't matter much, but as you lift it off it's wild. Compared it to my parent's 15" lenovo laptop that is way lighter.
- The screen is great
- The "great audio" is overrated imo. It's good for a laptop but it's not blowing my mind or anything
- They don't run that cool. The bottom of it is always luke warm even when just browsing youtube. I suspect this is an Apple decision to never run the fans at all and I could set them to 2000rpm or something if I wanted to modify them a bit.

  • 1st 16" was faulty... weird graphical glitch.
  • Got a 14" replacement. Didn't get on with it due to smaller size (novelty soon wore off) so my friend bought it.
  • Back on a 16" and loving it.
What's a graphical glitch
Ye it's defo smaller.dunno if you remember me but I was hesitant to upgrade from an air.as much as the display size doesn't make much of a difference (and that for my purchase to make sense I should have bought mbp16 instead),i decided to go wtiht the base 14 cuz it's cheaper.still doubting i made the right decision but eh

There was a small square (3cm x 3cm) in the top right of the screen which had a funky glitch effect going on - like graphical corruption. Driver? GPU? No idea, but Apple were keen to get it back.

If you don't need the bigger display, 14" is the way to go I think. I have a nice monitor at my desk but like to work from other rooms where I don't have one so its nice to have the larger laptop screen and decent standalone speakers.

Uh I'm defo curious, could you share a pic or video pls ?

I don't NEED it that's for sure .i have a monitor but being 27 4k60 with ips..it feels bad.i created a thread about returning the 14 as well as the monitor and get the 16 only ,instead, but decided to keep my 14+ monitor as it's smarter that way, even tho it's less enjoyable.sometimes i must refrain my impulses

Ye tell me about the speakers ,how did u find the 14,and how much better is the 16? I find the sound good but I'm not blown away tbh

same config on all 3 or did you change anything ?

Even though the 16 is bigger and heavier, the 14 feels thicker because it's generally the same thickness in a smaller footprint.
It's not the same thickness, 16 is thicker (1.68cm vs 1.62cm) than the previous 16 and 14 is even thinner (1.55cm vs 1.56cm) than the old 13 but yeah, because of proportions it looks thicker than 16 especially in silver

If specs are the same (CPU/GPU cores, screen etc) then there is no reason to go for the 16" unless you use it out and about not able to connect to external monitor and need the extra 2 inches. I predict the 14" will greatly outsell the 16" , not just because it will be priced lower.
So do you still believe the 14 outsells the 16?

Does it matter to you that what does which?

Let Apple decide which to axe. The more non-BTO SKUs a product has the higher the odds it sells more
wasnt asking you mate, just pointing out that it would look like more people went for the 16 even tho its priced higher, because apple managed to make the upgrade super attractive

where do u live and where do these stats come from ?
I think that is pretty reasonable given the $450-$500 price difference. Not everybody has that difference to put towards 16 even if they wanted.
Reddit is full of people who bought base 14 because of the price.

Actually i see more people on Reddit who had indeed bought the 14,going to the 16 because it makes more sense

I don't even know why I'm talkding about it as it confuses me even more .it's not like I'm counting on majority to make my choice.but rn i have the 16 and indeed for the price difference ,much bigger display+much better battery alone seem to be worth the 400 bucks
There are also are the full CPU and GPU, although I don't rly need more cores tbh ...and the better speakers and bigger trackpad, all that for 400€...but do i need it ? Nah . expect i didn't truly need the 14 either and could have gone with the 13 pro

My problem is that i want to get the 16 just so my M1PRO purchase would make more sense than 14vs13 (because 16 is in another league ,while 13 and 14 resemble each other )...

On the other hand it's still money ..

I just ordered a 14” (1 TB, 32GB, M1 Max). I will mostly use it for WFH, in clamshell mode with two external monitors. Otherwise I’ll take it with me when I travel, and I’d rather have the smaller form factor for that. I use a iPP 12.9 for the couch, etc and that works fine for me.

In the past I always went for the larger laptop (I am retiring a 2018 MBP 15), but I just didn’t see the point of getting a 16”.

yes and not only that, when you look online, the 14 is always sold out, yet, with the 16 there are always a few available (mostly baseline granted)
