16" for sure if you want to have two docs side by side.

My work laptop at 13" is passable but for doc papers id prefer as large as possible
Thank you! I've been waiting for the new Pros to get a computer for school. I just traded in my 9-year-old Macbook Air and I'm ready to buy as soon as they launch!

I generally agree that 16” is better but just keep in mind the weight difference. I finished my MFA right before the pandemic and the larger laptop was better overall but it also meant I took my iPad instead if I could because the weight was killer by the end of everyday.

Assuming you're able-bodied, I still think that the issue with the 16" machine isn't its weight, its the footprint of it which makes it impossible to use in cramped spaces - i.e. small train & plane tables.

If you have the space, its an absolute joy to use - that screen makes having two apps side-by-side very workable instead of a faff on the 13".

I only go to class in person about once a week so it seems like the trade off is worth it but I think I really need one of each size, one for home use and one to take to school! I’ll honestly probably size down to 14 after I graduate in a few years though since that will be better for portability.

… I think you’d be better off with a 14” and an external monitor for home use rather than spend $2500+ on a second, redundant laptop.

Will go for the 14', my choice used to be decided by the graphics chip; moore's law, apple sillicon and plentiful cloud compute time have rendered that dilemma moot. 16' is so unwieldy and my docking station is here when I want to tether down.

I'm sure that I will miss the screen real estate at times (eventhough I got really good at multi-touching between different workspaces) but being able to use my Laptop as a LAPtop will more than likely outweigh that.

The only thing that may sway me is if the battery life is noticeably better on the 16'.

PS: I really like printing things out, nothing beats good ol' dried tree mash.

I second that, an external monitor and peripherals will beat out the hassle of having to keep two devices synced. If you have money to burn, I hear those 6k monitors are really nice.

For home user , the imac is the way...of course if that user can wait until next year for the bigger imac

Still on the fence. I think ultimately I’ll have to compare the resolutions between them, and compare those against my existing 13” 2017 MBP to make the call for 14 or 16.

While I was joking about buying two computers, I do already have a large second monitor and home office set up in my house. I’ve been using that with my work computer since the beginning of the pandemic. My thought, however, was that it would be really nice to not sit in the same place for work and also for school all the time and have the flexibility to work on schoolwork in different places since I spend a ton of time on computers right now.

I wholeheartedly agree with wanting to have more freedom of movement.

My own two cents; While I expected that having a bigger mac would allow me to chose going "unleashed" as I percieved it to be a more viable option to "replace" my desk setup. The size meant that I would find myself being sedentary somewhere else as opposed to truly free.

I miss my 11' Macbook air tbh 😉

I’ll go with 14”. it has to be compact since I travel a lot and I want to be productive everywhere. When a more affordable display is released, I’ll buy it for my “homebase”, which makes the 16” a bad compromise for me.

I don't use these on my lap, and don't lug them except when traveling, which then I have other options.

So it's an easy decision. I actually can't stand anything over 2 lbs on my lap. The 12" MB (R.I.P.) was the last.

I will downsize from my current 15.4 inch MacBook Pro 2017 to the 14.2 inch MacBook Pro. While i will miss the screen size, i usually have my iPad Pro 13 inch with me on the go as well, so i can just use Universal Control to extend my screen size. Will not look too bad with 2 pro motion displays

One of the most unpleasant things about the old 16” on your lap was how hot it got when you were pushing the CPU, so I’m hoping these new ones are much cooler to use.

I went back and forth as usual Between the two sizes, but went for a 16” in the end as I do like to work from different places in the house and the larger screen is just much more comfortable for me.
