I know this is a really dumb question, but the new 14" will it be the same footprint as the current 13? or slightly larger?
Smart choice of aspect ratio.Looks like it's closer to 14:9 based on the pixels - (3024/1964 = 1.5397148676 and 14/2 = 1.5555555556).
I changed three times, but not this morning, but just minutes after placing my first order. 16 inch to another 16 inch now to a 14 inch a few hours later. What a day yesterday was trying to figure out what I really needed and finally decided that the 16 inch was too big. I was too much in a hurry to try to get a good shipping date which didn’t help much in my decision. So, has anyone changed their order this morning from one to the other on reflection?
I kind of did the same which was why I was asking! I've switched to a 14" as well... As much as I love the 16" design and that screen, its just too big to use on the move and is a pain when sharing table space, even sitting on the sofa and in bed its unwieldy.I changed three times, but not this morning, but just minutes after placing my first order. 16 inch to another 16 inch now to a 14 inch a few hours later. Errrrrr doubt they'll put 120hz on the Air but instead keep it with MiniLED at 60hz....I'm actually on the fence of cancelling the order to wait and see what the M2 Air will have in stock, If the current trend holds true, it should cover me plenty. With pro motion on top, that would be a damn tasty cherry.
Well, not in theory, but likely in practice. They are both described as having the new six-speaker system. But I would imagine that in the real world those speakers are going to have more room to resonate and sound better / fuller / louder in the 16" chassis. How much better? Who knows. I want to find out because that will impact my final decision. So the 14 has worse speakers?
I was actually thinking about that ... Knowing my ocd, I would have had to invest in high refresh rate high dpi monitors for my docking setup in order not to lose coherence. And that would have meant a minimum additionnal expenditure of 3000.- ... Fair to say. That I made myself a solid. And saved 7000.-Errrrrr doubt they'll put 120hz on the Air but instead keep it with MiniLED at 60hz....
I mean I doubt the Air and the new entry level M2 Pro would go over 1499$.. Putting that 120hz MiniLED in there would reduce the margins. And one interesting thing from the Prosser leak (I believe that Air leak) was that it didn't have a notch......I was actually thinking about that ... I would not be surprised if they kept the current form-factor and dragged out the tooling for the air for a few years.I mean I doubt the Air and the new entry level M2 Pro would go over 1499$.. Watching the keynote the specifically mention 16 inch speakers but then add the 14inch in the same discussion later on, I just find odd but maybe that's me looking too much into it. Hopefully reviews drop sometime soon.Well, not in theory, but likely in practice. They are both described as having the new six-speaker system. Exactly. And they give that '80% more bass' figure, which... well I'm assuming that's just for the 16"? I'm not sure what the delta will be on the 13" -> 14". It'll be great once MaxTech gets their hands on all the models they ordered.Watching the keynote the specifically mention 16 inch speakers but then add the 14inch in the same discussion later on, I just find odd but maybe that's me looking too much into it. Well, they will without any doubt be FAR better than the speakers on the old 13", but maybe slightly less great than the speakers on the new 16".So the 14 has worse speakers?

The 16/1TB model I ordered today is still due next Tuesday though which is good.
That's one reason why I got the 14" and do not wait for the redesigned Air. I don't think it will get the 120 Hz display and also no SD card reader.I'm actually on the fence of cancelling the order to wait and see what the M2 Air will have in stock, If the current trend holds true, it should cover me plenty. Yes, I'm going to use it with a monitor most of the time. Are you going to use with a monitor or not?
Same with me. When I thought this was coming at WWDC, I was set on being a Day 1 16” purchaser (and this is with having a 2016 13” MBP the last 5 years). But over the summer, the fact that I use it predominantly with an external monitor became more apparent. And once it was looking very likely that the internals would be identical, I started leaning 14”. Once it was confirmed, and especially when I saw the 16” gained half a pound in weight too. Well, decided it made much more sense to get the 14”. Went with a M1 Pro 10-core/16-core with 32gb/1TB.Yes, I'm going to use it with a monitor most of the time.
One of the big attractions to me of the 16" screen is the ability to use it for hours without an external screen. But I'm not sure if the trade-off is worth it for the reduced portability.
Yes: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210380Can I use my iPad Pro M1 as external monitor display of the MBP?
