Never cracked a phone before, but all it took for the iphone was one drop.

Top of the back is nicked, bottom is cracked pretty badly.

I have a genius bar appt tonight, but assume they won't replace it under Applecare.

Does anyone know if I can replace the bottom part of the back, or am I pretty much screwed?

And I assume you don't have AC+? I don't think you can find replacement parts yet, can you?

I have Applecare+ but I thought it didn't cover cosmetic damages like the back?

AC+ should cover the back. It will use one of your two replacements though, so you may decide it is worthwhile to use it like it is for a little while.

Yea, I might get a cheap rubber case from amazon and just cover it up for now to save one of my AC+ replacements.

FML.

umm.. no, get the phone replaced, and only start using a case when you have 0 replacements left

The shatter prone glass of the iPhone 4 and the bend-ability of aluminum, all rolled into one!

These phones, at minimum, need a bumper case. I wouldn't use my 4S without one. Too damn slippery.

I think I'm putting a case on regardless. So maybe replace this one if they let me and then put on a light case. Leaving for Europe for a few months..don't need to take any chances when I'm not near an apple store.

Call up and get AppleCare+ added... They allow you to within 30 days. :-D

I already have it.

But for anyone looking to do that, you have to take the device into the store for an inspection before they will give you applecare+

$200... i know the ip4/s was only $30 for apple to replace the back.. but its not as easy now. regardless cant you get an out of warranty replacement from apple for $250? not much more than replacement parts.

Slid out of my hand getting out of the car...smacked on the concrete. I'm usually very careful..first time I ever busted a phone like that. iPhone is pretty fragile.

That's what I thought but someone here told me I'm wrong. Apple told me I had to have the phone inspected when I checked (with the 4s).
Folks sure are quick to suggest committing fraud.

If it weren't "fraud" then they wouldn't require the inspection.
