Chi Chi get the yayo!

OP is a bawce!

Slid out of my hand getting out of the car...smacked on the concrete. I'm usually very careful..first time I ever busted a phone like that. iPhone is pretty fragile.

so you mean if you drop glass on concrete it's going to shatter? no way! it's totally not a property of glass it's just weak. This surely doesn't happen with any other glass product.

Like mentioned earlier, an iPhone 4/4S rear glass costs $30 to replace, just did it couple weeks ago for my sister....so can't see why it'd be more since the new glass is smaller on 5 than the 4.

Unless the labor or it being new makes a difference.

I have dropped other phones many times over the years and never had a crack...that's why I called the iphone fragile. You act like I insulted your mother by replying with some snarky reply that contributes absolutely nothing to the topic.

Its a whole different phone, design and hardware.
Doesnt mean because the old one was $30, this one has less glass so it should be $10 or cheaper.
You cant just replace those little glass pieces by taking 2 screws out like you did for the i4 and 4S.

I see, well it's worth asking a genius. Worst case if it's more that $49, just pay that for your first replacement since you have AC+. You do get two replacements.

the iPhone is fragile because you dropped it 2 feet directly on the screen onto concrete? You're paying for a new one now, no way you're getting apple care.

It's crazy that when those guys drop it in those videos, some of them took a few tries before it did some real damage, yet when it's dropped by accident it cracks right away.

If it's still fully functional, use it care-free until you drop it again. I know it's a lot easier said than done - I probably can't take it if it happened to my own phone, but it is such a great feeling to be ignorant about getting it damaged, thanks to having AC+ and that first drop. Like getting the first door ding on the car, soon I won't care about it any more.

Fine, the iPhone's fragile. Congratulations, you made a lousy decision in buying this phone.

Now where did that get us? Right, your iPhone is still broken.

Huh? What's the point of this post. He's just disapointed that he cracked his new iPhone. I'm sure you would be too if the same happened to you.

Why not, after that lets go rob a bank too:D

It is apples policy to allow 30 day for a consumer to add it - not mine. Is it fraud for them to decline a replacement due to something that their policy states as non-replaceable?

No? Oh yeah, because it is in the policy - just like the 30 days to add it.

I already have it.

But for anyone looking to do that, you have to take the device into the store for an inspection before they will give you applecare+

Yeah, when I took my 5 in to add ac+, they asked if the one in my hand was the one I wanted to cover. It was in a case and he didn't even remove it to inspect. Thought that was odd

My phone came with some factory defects. I was afraid that the genius would say I caused the damage so I called Apple. I was able to add Applecare + over the phone without any problems. I also live 15 minutes from an Apple store. So no, you don't necessarily have to go in for the inspection, but I would not count on being able to add it over the phone.

So... what happened at the apple store?

I went to the Apple store last night and ended up having my phone replaced for $49. I was surprised they replace the phone for cosmetic reasons, but they did.

The guy originally took it in the back to "see if there is something else" he could do, but returned and told me the only option for a cracked back on the iphone 5 is to replace the device. So I replaced it.
I ordered a sleeve from Amazon and will definitely be wrapping up this one.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to give advice/suggestions.
