Question.
Let's say I dropped my iPhone5 today and the screen shattered and I did not have AC+, how much would it cost to walk out with a new/refurbished iPhone5?

----------

Again why are the top and bottom bits shiny and silver and not white like on my iphone

?
You have a white iPhone and he has a black one?

Orland Park mall apple store Illinois

I don't know if each store has own rules but a month before i got my I5 I cracked the back of my IP4S. I took it there thinking i had to use my apple care+. He come from the back and gave me 2 options which to used a apple care+ claim which he advised against. He told me I could pay 30 and they give me another one. So I took the second option he even gave headphones and a sync cable. No it's not a new guy he been there ever since i got my 3gs from there maybe it depends on who you deal with.:):apple::)

I'm sure you guys know that dropping an object each and every time will result in different outcomes. Unless the drop is in a controlled setting where the item is dropped in the exact same place, landing, velocity in speed, rotation, impact.

Throwing 10 different iPhone 5 into the air will give you 10 different results.

it now costs $229 to fix a cracked back and before with the 4/4s it was $29

pretty pathetic if you ask me

Lets see...Im 28 days into owning this iphone5...never in 2 yrs had an issue with the 4.

Last night had the phone (which is in a Speck case for now) in my jeans pocket just like I always do. Was carrying a box, went to rest it on my leg so I could open up my door and hear a noise. Pull out my phone an the front screen is beyond shattered. I bet there are over 30 cracks easily.

Like hard to read screen.

Off to Apple today at 4:30.

There is no way they should crack this easy.

It should not crack that easy at all.

I have dropped other phones many times over the years and never had a crack...that's why I called the iphone fragile. You act like I insulted your mother by replying with some snarky reply that contributes absolutely nothing to the topic.

What? You dropped and broke your phone and now you're going to insult other people due to your mistake? You gotta be kidding me. It's not Apple's fault you dropped your phone. It's not other posters fault you broke your phone. You were smart enough to buy Apple Care +. Good deal. But stop taking it out on everyone else. It's really not their fault.

Its always everyone elses fault.
It shouldnt break like that. It should have broken if it was dropped harder or from 6 inches higher or 6 months later:D It cant happen a few weeks after I bought it. No way.
lol

I think Im worse off...mine didnt drop and I was the idiot who jinxed himself an didnt buy applecare bc ive neer had issues before.

Im hoping to get it fixed today (cross fingers) an add applecare afterwards since im still within 30days.

I can't believe how fragile the iPhone 5 is.
I'm afraid to breath on the damn thing for fear something might happen to it.

Give me back my old Motorola Brick Phone :p

I went to the Apple store last night and ended up having my phone replaced for $49. I was surprised they replace the phone for cosmetic reasons, but they did.

I'm confused about why you are surprised that they replaced it. you have a Manufacturers warranty for defects and the apple care+ gives you 2 "accidental replacements" it does not say that the accident must render the phone useless. You should not be surprised, you should have expected it. It is what you paid for anyway. so that if you damage your phone you do not have walk around crippled device.

Just wrapped up. They do not at this time replace the glass, had to replace the entire phone. They charged me $179.99 for new phone and then $99 for applecare. Would have been $229 just for the phone had I not bought applecare. Good thing is, this doesnt count against my 2 replacements.

I didn't insult anyone because my phone is broken. Go back and read the message thread. The person criticized me because I called the iphone fragile. He should not have replied in the first place with a message that contributed absolutely nothing to the topic of the thread.

He didn't criticize you. He stated that the iPhone is not fragile. He gets to post his opinion, just like you do. Why do you think you should be able to pst and "he should not have replied". You do understand this is a public forum, don't you? You don't have to agree with him, but it;s rude, childish and against the rules to post your personal insults. Again, you're attacking the wrong people. He didn't break your phone. BTW, as far as phones go. The iPhone is NOT fragile. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Why don't people use American Express for their electronic purchases?

90 days accidental protection. Drop and break phone. Pay the $229 to replace iPhone. American Express will reverse you the money to replace the broken iPhone within 90 days of purchase.

Why recommend AppleCare plus that costs $99 plus $50 for total of $150?

Amex is free. Simple fast. I have used their extended warranty and accidental protection free programs.

Amex just replaced my 18 month old iPad 2. I paid the $249 replacement from apple. Apple credited me back the full $249 plus taxes to my Amex accounted within 7 days of reviewing my claim.

Maybe because Not everyone has an AMEX and their protection is 90 days.

AC+ is two years coverage.

Amex accidental is 90 days and would have covered OP's cracked iPhone.

Amex along with other credit cards offer free extra year warranty if phone fails due to normal wear and tear.

Apple extended warranty programs are for the most part pure profit as is most warranty programs.

Why pay $150 for accidental breakage for apple care plus? Vs $229 for replacement.

I'd take my chances with Amex (90 days accident protection plus extended warranty) for $0 over paying apple $99 plus deductible.

Of u don't have Amex. U should get Amex. Many of their cards are no annual fee and cards like blue cash have excellent rewards.

Amex tends to cherry pick but if your credit isn't horrible you can get an Amex card.

Not all CCs offer this. AC+ extends this coverage for an extra year.

So is your Amex card. Don't pay your balance and full each month, and that interest rate will be "pure profit" for them.

Why pay $150 for accidental breakage for apple care plus? Vs $229 for replacement.

Because $150 is cheaper, and you get another replacement for $50 more instead of another $229.

I'd take my chances with Amex (90 days accident protection plus extended warranty) for $0 over paying apple $99 plus deductible.

AC+ provides more coverage than your "free" AMEX protection plan. And it's not really free, your paying for it via annual fees, interest rates, minimal balance requirements.

No Thank you. I like to pay for my items via Check Card or Cash.
