It would be written in the box. That would be an awesome feature they would be proud to announce.

I don't think it would be on the box... They would be proud to announce it, but for real, would putting it on the box sell any more than not adding it? I am pretty sure that you don't see the box until after you buy it. No real point in adding it.

Weak compared to the old model. Its slower than the current one. Fine that you dont care for the Gcard, but i do. I am a professional multimedia developer and need a good GPU. This is the PRO line of apple after all. I dont want to buy the 17" just to get some decent GPU performance.

I couldn't agree more, it's weak... Hopefully though there *might* be a higher end option otherwise it looks like a Falcon NW or Alienware with Redhat.

For the average home user, the GPU would do what it's supposed to do but for higher end graphics it's a weak choice. I do geospatial imagery along with a bit of broadcast, if Apple only put 256MB and a lower GPU then it makes it very hard for me to choose a MBP over another system unfortunately.

Really? No QUAD on the 13? :p
4G/LTE still a novelty — what I mean is, the average person doesn't want to add another monthly bill for anywhere-laptop usage yet
backlit keyboard — an absolute "necessity" (not being sarcastic)
if you bought a 13, you can't be that worried about resolution :p

I don't think that 3G/4g built into a laptop is worth it. After all, all iPhones come with tethering now, and so do most droids. If you want high-speed 4g in your laptop, get a Mifi device - and don't impact your computers battery life !

A quad core in a 13"? Really ? I'm very happy to see these specs in the 17" - and quite surprised to see them in the 15". I think apple is going to have an awesome release today.

By the way - this lightspeed/thunderbolt technology sounds incredible if it really is possible to get 10gb/s - wonder if there will be any switches available for this technology, and how mainstream for networking will it become?

Low end 15" seems like a great deal apart from 2 things, screen res and GPU. Otherwise I am sold on this machine.

Yup, me too. Hope they've got options for a better GPU, and that the higher res + GPU won't cost an extortionate amount. But, knowing Apple, it most probably will. :(

Very true...

While for my needs (web / graphic design + photography) latest MBP looks awesome - I fully agree with your comments...

For heavy graphic / video user, GPU should have been way better - specially considering asking price Apple puts on their 'pro' products.

Have prices been released? Perhaps they are targeting a lower price point with the base 15?

They must be. Hopefully they have a BTO with better graphics option...

I wonder how they would position a weaker GPU? Say its more efficient?

I was going to buy a 15" but if they are putting in a WEAKER GPU than screw that.

If you can wait until the redesign, do it. This one is viewed internally as a minor refresh, all hands are on deck for the redesign.

For those complaining about the screen, the next one will showcase an excellent screen, like what the Retina display did for the iPhone.

Happy Birthday Steve! Thanks for our gift! Does anyone know if Apple software takes advantage of more than 2 cores?

I'm surprised it took so long for someone to ask this. I was wondering the same thing. I know the mac pro's had quad and 8 cores...

Of course the os does - the Mac pro's have 8 cores. I'd say that OSX is also the only mainstream OS that really takes advantage of SMP and hyper threading - snow leopard introduced grand central, and by now many developers have ensured their products utilize that.

Hi everybody!

Longtime reader, first time poster. Just wanted to win the "oldest mac being replaced" contest. My last computer I purchased was a Dell C2D desktop from like 4 years ago cause I was still a student and couldn't afford a new Mac. My current laptop is a PowerBook G4 with something like 768Mb Ram (maxed out, ha) and 1.13Ghz (or something close to that) G4 processor. The PB is still my daily use computer (I just use the Dell for audio recording) and the ONLY thing that doesn't work anymore is the optical drive!!!! I've been selling old music gear on eBay to get a new MBP and I'm so glad I found you guys and waited for this update!!! Anyway, I enjoy reading your posts, and BTW, did you see the Apple store was down? Haha, jk.

Dual Core looks like a typo on their part, it's a quad.

I hope they lower the prices in the UK a bit, they are ridiculous now especially with the 20% VAT.

Well, lets hope the fact that the new 13" appears to have integrated intel graphics is reflected in the price.
