Talked to a Blue Shirt last week when I was in store and he confirmed this. They sold well initially but then demand fell off a cliff. People look at both and pick up the smaller Air, or go with the 16" Pro when they find out the 15" Air lacks the extra ports/multi-monitor support.

Waited SO LONG for the official announcement of the MBA15 and prayed to the Technology GODZ for Apple to put a 3rd USB-C port on the right hand side. (Didn't even need to be Thunderbolt, just a plain old USB3.1 connection.) NNNnnnnope! SO I'm keeping my M1 MBA 13 for portable and bought a new souped up mini for desktop w/ my Dell 27 4K monitor. Sorry if it's true that the demand is not up to expectations. Ya ALMOST had me!

I know of 2 people that literally gave up their MacBook Air for a windows because of cost.
Their Air was too slow after a few years so they needed to upgrade it and an upgrade cost $1500 before taxes. They got a windows that had more hard drive space and memory for under $500.

Not everyone is geeking out for an M3 chip when they don't even know how to take advantage of the M3 capabilities. I was obsessed with the Mac Pro until I saw someone use it for their job and I realized there is absolutely ZERO reasons as to why I should have it. Some of these devices are created for people in the graphic design world, the creating world etc. thats why I laugh when I see all the "I need an M3 now!" posts.

Majority of the people need hard drive space first and foremost, then they look at the size of the laptop/monitor/weight, then come back to maybe the memory portion if that.

When your average Joe sees a 256GB MacBook is going for $1200 before taxes, do you think he will choose that option or the $400 windows that does what he or she needs which is sends emails, browse the internet, do some online shopping and take care of work on Excel or Word.

Yup. Terrible to have one configurable model as opposed to 35 models.
There is so much that's wrong with that from an economic/business and marketing standpoint that its incredible. I honestly thought you weren't being serious.

doesnt surprise me . 15 just is not portable. Totally ridiculous product. The Air name should be reserved for 10-13 inch devices. Not 15.
Every bit as portable as any 13" unless of course your back pack is 14.5" wide open.

Well I bought a 16" 2021 MBP and a 2020 MBP air just about two years ago. No need to replace
them anytime soon.

I'm legit surprised by this. Only thing I can think is a broader slowdown in consumer spending.

Yep, specially in poor countries, that $400 computer will be $600 in most countries besides USA and that $1200 Apple will be $1600.

Let's be honest, we see articles like this every other week and actual sales figures, not "suppliers being asked to reduce" articles, always tell a different story.

Apple's suppliers have no idea what each other are making and in what quantity. Apple has been shifting a number of supply lines to India, so it's entirely possible that if Chinese suppliers have been asked to reduce production, it is being stepped up in India.

Always look at the stock price cycle within days of these news articles to see the prices drop, and a lot of investors buy at a lower price. Somebody get's rich by introducing rumours or doubt around big companies and their subsequent stock price fluctuations, and the news companies are just pawns in this process.

Aficionados are waiting for the M3, regular customers wonder why it’s equipped like their current five year old machine in terms of SSD and Ram and why, when adjusting the specs, the price approaches current Pro prices. It just seems like a bad deal for many I think.

But on the other hand, people may like the form factor of the MBA and don't care about sustained performance. My wife is an example and she loves her 15" MBA that's specced out. There's very little in the Window's world that can compare on the metrics that matter to her.

MacBook Air 15.3 was designed with big profits in mind:
1. a ridiculous 8 GB/256GB RAM/SSD;
2. over $600 for a decent 16GB/1TB;
3. minimal ports;
4. LCD display at AMOLED price.
5. zero expandability;
6. zero repairability;
7. For “just” $1,900...
Grate job, Mr Cook.

You’re not wrong. I’m a very technical user, yet even I am completely satisfied with my $750 (open box for $540) Windows machine. And then I upgraded the SSD to 1TB for a little over $100. Not to mention I have a 90Hz OLED screen. Leaves me scratching my head when I look at the Mac lineup.
