To be the 13" is a great size. A portable laptop that is thin makes sense to be smaller. No point in having it be 0.1" thinner and then make it 2" wider in regards to portability. Now if they sold both sizes for the same price it might be more comparable.

I would rather see them up the base config from 8GB RAM/256GB SSD to 16/512 and that would increase demand more than a M3, mark my words.
At the current price of the base model, that would be a really good deal.

I do think the 256GB starting storage is a poor choice. 8GB of ram is still ok for non pro users.

But they actually need to make a meaningful improvement over the M2. Remember how they’ve basically been using the same Apple Watch processor for years now but giving it new numbers to deceive consumers into thinking they’re upgrading.
If all the M3 hype on a new smaller NM is true and we see 30ish percentage preformance boost and 30ish percentage less power then I would consider that a meaningful improvement.

I have an AWU and although its basically the same SOC from the S6 watch, I havent experienced any performance issues.

Most people want a more portable machine. Looks like they should've brought back the 11-inch model, instead.

Crazy expensive for what it is. Was going to replace my Mid 2015 15" MacBook Pro till I found out it can only handle 1 external display. 😂
I noticed that too late. Bought the M2 13” a couple of weeks ago to replace my 2014 MBP, only to notice that it cannot handle two external screens. baffles me. surely the computer would be able to handle it.

I think it just boils down to timing and the economy. I'm planning to buy one myself, but it's going to have to wait for a few more months. And of course the base model is under-spec'd, so I'll have to save up more $ for a useful config, so that means Apple will have to wait longer to get my $$.

Article states: "As a result of this "poor start," the report claims that some Apple suppliers have requested a reduction in 15-inch MacBook Air shipments."

Man those suppliers are smart! Lets see, "these things arent selling, maybe we should make less of them".

Someone needs to award them an A in economics 101 for that deduction.

A smaller MBA would sell worse than the 15" MBA.

The 11" MBA was removed from the Air line-up because it didn't sell as well. The 12" MacBook was discontinued because it didn't sell well either. Just like the iPhone mini.
yes, it's because it's all about YOUR needs. There are plenty of large screen options without the 15" MBA.

I always felt a M1/M2 11"/12" MacBook would be way more capable then what was offered before in that laptop size category that is akin to a netbook. The intel CPU in those earlier small MacBook examples were pathetic in comparison to the larger intel based Mac Laptops which is why they disappeared. Todays AS chips you can truly make something revolutionary, even impact a lot of iPad sales. :)

It’s not about the M2 vs M3

It’s about the ridiculous upgrade pricing that takes a good starting price and quickly turns it into an overpriced machine.
This right here. Just bumping it to 16G of RAM and a 512GB hard drive puts you at $300.00 less than a a base 14" MBP. For that small price bump you get a higher quality screen, 120HZ, higher memory bandwith, a better M2 chip, more ports and a larger power supply. Apple's ridiculous pricing for any kind of memory add-on is pure greed and the reason I don't have a 15" Air right now.

I love mine. I don't understand the obsession with "the next chip" so much. The M3 will be yet another % increment (20% maybe) while this chip screams. Most people won't even know the difference. My brother who used to work for Apple showed me some performance routines to run showing the 8 cores in action and WOW.

Dunno many people just aren’t upgrading their machines as often. Or those who already have pros for say 14 inch or 16 inch are happy with theirs

Apple is starting to hit android manufacturer level with the way it is oversaturaring its product line. Too many offerings close in price cannibalizing each other.

The external display crying is easily solved and has always been.

What this really tells me is most people really don't know what they're talking about yet think they will ever scratch the surface of maxing out an M1, M2, or yet to come M3. The only things you'll be maxing out are hard drives full of selfies.

Stop with the nonsense.

The machine is a fine machine, thinner than the pro, a nice shape, a larger palm area for more comfortable typing and use. When you feel one in person it feels much more polished than the pro and the feet seem to protrude less as well to give a more compact feel, as the name suggests.

You are assuming that most customers make the same power vs portability judgement as you. A lot of people don't need the power of a pro device but do need a larger screen. Many will only occasionally take their laptops out of the house. that is why 15" models are very popular in Windows laptops.

You are correct and I appreciate that I’m falling into the trap of thinking everyone else thinks like me.

My position is that I strongly suspect that the pool of people who solely want a larger screen, with no other technical or performance enhancements, is going to be small and I’d be curious to know how often the 15” MBA ends up steering people towards a 13” MBA or a 16” Pro.

I haven’t come across anything compelling in this thread that has caused me to shift my position. Yet.

Probably some people -- including me -- are waiting for sales, such as back-to-school and Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I need a new laptop, but I can hang on for a few more months to get a deal like I did on a Studio last November.

I just wanted the 15" MBA with the mLED, but since it doesn't have the mLED screen and the 14" refurbs are basically the same price with much more offered on top of it...I'd imagine those 14" refurbs are selling like hot cakes. They don't even have the M1s available anymore, I have to go up $200 to get the M2 and even that's a sweet deal. If you can handle the slightly taller chassis and slightly smaller screen I bet most would just default to the 14" at this point? You give me a 15" MBA with the mLED and especially an SD card reader...I am become fan, purchaser of MacBook Air.
