This being Apple, I'd expect a 15" model exactly like the base 13" Air (with a bigger/similar display) for $1699 and I would be pleasantly surprised if it was $1599. Those hoping for 1399 or 1499 are dreaming, IMO. A price less than $1599 would kill sales of the 14" MacBook Pro.
I do think it may end up between 1599-1699z I doubt air will get a Pro/Max CPU/GPU not as much expandable Ram as 14 inch pro.

Hmm if they place there mini led or oled with pro motion it would be instant buy, but i think there are zero chances

Honestly if they can put in the 120hz refresh display that would be awesome but we all know that they won't then the 14" and 16" Macbook Pro's will not sell.

I would expect a 15” MBA to replace the 13” MBP in the lineup as the 4th laptop. The M1 is a leftover for price similar to Apple still selling 13 and 12 iPhones.
I think the reason why the Touch Bar 13 MacBook Pro still exists is because they must have been stock piling that chassis somewhere. Its possible not many of them sold during the M1 generation, so they just kept using it until is depleted. I don't buy the argument, its for businesses buying it in bulk who are familiar with the form factor.

The alleged 15 in MacBook Air would fill an important sweet spot though. Not as heavy or expensive as a 16 inch for persons who just want a larger screen portable. And good enough for most intermediate tasks, but not powerful enough to make 14 inch feel unnecessary. Its still gonna cannibalize sales of the 14 inch though. I have seen so many of 14 inch being used by college girls and its like you could tell, they had no choice, but felt like Air was not it.

Hopefully it has a better screen than the M2 MBA. I don't hate mine, but it doesn't hold a candle to my MBP14. It's one of those things you wouldn't notice unless you use them both. But once you notice it, it's hard to unsee.

Also pulling for it to have an M3 (although that seems highly unlikely to me if it comes in April). Want an M3 13" for massive battery life. That's where the Air shines.

I had a chance to compare the Screen between the 14" Macbook Pro with the 13" Macbook Air at the Apple store. Right off the bat the 14" with the 120hz pro res is way better than the 13" with the 60hz screen it was night and day difference in picture quality. Hopefully the 15" Macbook Air will have the 120hz pro res or OLED.

No, MacBook Air pretty much always had a fan… one version even had a fan that literally blew air out the back rather than over a heat sink. Yes, I understand it is a way to segment product line but it leaves a lot of performance off the table. Omission of basic thermal regulation might not be strange to some but it is to me.

Behold, the 2018 MacBook Air with the fan to nowhere:
It was a major upgrade that the M1/M2 MBAs didn’t have a fan. They don’t really need a fan for normal operations. The minor performance limit on rare, long duration operations is not worth having a fan. If you want to do, long duration, high performance processing, the MBPs are designed for that.

It will have neither. Get an MBP if you want 120hz.

And also touch capabilities tend to come at a cost in price, extra thickness layers, maybe worse reflectivity, less contrast ratio, etc…

Every time Max Tech shows a potential MacBook killer with its RTXs (that’s even more expensive than said MacBook) the first thing is that the screen even if 120 or 160 or similar Hz is quite less bright, less contrast, worse viewing angles, ghosting for fast moving things, quite average PPI, etc… “but it’s nice that it’s a touch screen”.

There’s also the whole ergonomics discussion… going over the keyboard through the whole laptop to reach the screen is quite exhausting, just thinking about it makes me second guess it. The screen either has to slide in closer or gets detached.
There’s a reason why the Apple iPad Smart Folio keyboards are quite short and small and the iPad itself is tilted in a couple slots, both angles being quite user front facing. The Apple Magic Keyboard whole design is around pushing the screen towards the user too, but can get away with more because there’s a trackpad and it’s expected to be used more.
Samsung recently brought out a new line of OLED displays with the touch integrated into the display layer. There is no extra thickness or reflection or contrast reduction. With the rumors of Apple bringing OLED to their MacBooks in the next couple of years, that display might be a candidate, especially in a dual-layer version with reduced burn-in risk.

if this goes to 15, why keep the Pro as 14? 🤔
The Pro is both 14 and 16 to give a choice. The 16 is a big laptop. Not everyone wants big.

This sets up a clean product line for apple’s laptops.
Air - consumer line in small and large
Pro - professional line in small and large

I would expect the 13” MBP to fade away when a 15” MBA appears. The 13” M! Air will probably stick around as a leftover to hold that lowest price spot, it is isn’t really a part of the main product line.

I think there is quite a lot of demand for this, it would have been a perfect laptop for my mother, who ended up buying a base spec 16” MacBook Pro but doesn’t really use the pro aspects of the device, she just wanted a Mac laptop with a big screen.

I do think it fills a gap in the product lineup for a more affordable non-Pro laptop, for users who could benefit from the bigger screen but don’t need a chip with 8 performance and 4 efficiency cores.

wow. it’s finally coming.

I have decided. eventually will ditch my Intel 2019 iMac 27” in favor of this 15” MBA beauty and an additional monitor.

then I’ll replace the 2018 12.9” iPad Pro with whatever 13” or 14” version they eventually release.
Yes sir! 🔥🔥🔥

Who in their right mind would want a Midnight Colour Macbook? Have you not seen it in person at the Apple store with all the FINGER PRINTS and the side ports with the paint chipping off??
This question has already been answered. Beauty takes work!

As far as paint chipping goes. I think as long you are gentle and careful with it. There shouldn't be any more issues. The color is too beautiful, dead gorgeous!

I was waiting for this since I heard the first rumors. Glad it's actually happening.
Apple left this on purpose for the last in the M Lineups because this might be the most complete product, as even the base M laptop is more than enough for 99% of users and the larger screen makes the 16 MPB less attractive.

I will wait for the M3 cpus for that extra power but without the extra thermal burden, that will feel at home in such a slim body.

What a mess they've made.
Partially out of their hands with the China production delays but still..

M2 Mini was supposed to launch in November.
This 15" Air was rumoured to come much sooner.
Plans for Mac Pro derailed.

Air will have a weird early refresh.
Studio won't be refreshed for 2+ years, the whole time M2 mini is mostly faster than it.
Mac Pro will be a huge overpriced disappointment.

Apple's supply chain started production of display panels for a new 15.5-inch MacBook Air this month, according to display industry analyst Ross Young, who has a very good track record with rumors about future Apple products over the past few years.

In a tweet shared with his subscribers today, Young said he expects the new MacBook Air to launch in "early April" given that display production is now underway, but it is possible that an announcement and pre-orders could occur sooner. Apple often holds a spring event to announce new products, such as in March 2022 and April 2021.

A new 15-inch display size option would be the largest ever for the MacBook Air and would presumably be offered alongside the existing 13-inch model. The current 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip was released in July 2022 and starts at $1,199.

Young did not provide any additional details about the new model, including whether it would be equipped with the M2 chip or the next-generation 3nm-based M3 chip, which Apple has yet to announce. Apple's chipmaking partner TSMC began mass production of 3nm chips in December, but it's unclear if the M3 chip would be ready by April.

The launch of a 15-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip this spring has been the subject of debate given that Apple is also rumored to be planning to update the MacBook Air with the M3 chip later this year, and there would only be around six to eight months between these refreshes in this scenario. As the release of the new MacBook Air models approaches, hopefully additional rumors will help to clear up the situation.

Young is the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). In the past, he accurately revealed that iPhone 13 Pro and high-end MacBook Pro models would feature ProMotion, that the sixth-generation iPad mini would be equipped with an 8.3-inch display, that the current MacBook Air would have a slightly larger 13.6-inch display, and more.

If the M2 Air replaced the M1 Air at the $999 price this would make sense as a pricier Air but currently wherever they put it in the lineup it would have to be more expensive than a Pro or the gap between this and the ??? actually Pro Pros????? (wow) will be huge which also doesn't work for the pricing ladder. The current Mac lineup is extremely confusing. Glad I got the Pro M1 back in 2020, nowadays I wouldn't know what to pick and would've likely stuck with my old Mac.

Crazy that Apple has never had a more consumer focused 15" laptop. There's a huge gap where people want a large screen, but can't afford the mammoth cost of a 16" pro. £1250 vs £2700. Even the 14" is now £2150.

A 15" MBP priced at £1500 would be a good position. Though IMO all of them are overpriced by about £250-£500.

Even if Apple would release a 15" MacBook Air, I have a feeling it would be priced too close to the MacBook Pros just to nudge people to just get the Pros, in a typical Apple way. Ie the 15" MacBook air will probably start from $1699, but with measly 8/256 config, making the base 14" MacBook Pro more appealing (having 16/512 for just $300 more, along with the better SoC and display).

And the. Just like the iphone Plus, Apple would show how it's not selling well and it will discontinue it few years later (while seeing a nice boost in MacBook Pro sales).
But that would mean when you equalise RAM and storage the 15" Air would be more expensive than the 14" Pro, despite lacking a lot of the features. While Apple are anything but generous with pricing, they do follow a sort of internal logic for these machines. In the absence of any other feature/ justification, a larger screen variant will be a +$100 or $200 premium over the smaller variant, depending on the product. 8 -> 16GB RAM always costs $200, regardless of the context (i.e. what sort of RAM is in the computer you're buying) and 256 -> 512GB storage is again always the same $200.

Applying this to the 13" Air, a 16/512 15" Air would be $1,899 with 10C graphics, just $100 off the base 14", that's more than close enough to start getting people to mull over whether the MBP would be a better option for a better display, more power, more ports and better speakers.

This will probably cost around $1499 in base spec but it will be something absymal like 8/256.
And then people will get mad because if specced up it will cost as much as a Pro.
Looking forward to next year when it will receive M3 and have a price drop based on the discontinuation of the M1.
