Seriously $400 option...its disgusting how greedy apple has become, that chip only costs $50 bucks.
And a couch costs $200 to make and they sell it for $2000, so, what's your point.

So, you just buy an eGPU with 20% more performance than you expect to realize, and be happy...There is a small performance hit which is IMO worth if for a laptop, but totally not worth it for a "desktop" Mac Mini. I think the difference (e.g. in FPS in games) is around 20% (there are plenty benchmarks on YT)
Blower style coolers can be noisy and the card can tun hotter. But they push the air to the outside of the case.Thank you for the clarification.
To whit, I game on my Xbox One and I would argue that buying a Mac mini and an eGPU for gaming makes absolutely zero sense from a financial perspective.
Any number of YouTube video by BitWit, Gamers Nexxus, et al. show how to build a solid 1080p gaming PC for $500-$700, but I digress.
As for the reference cooler, I assume you mean the cooling solution for the FE version is inadequate? If so, I am not sure what the solution would be as the FE is the only version of the Vega 64 to sport 16GB of HBM memory.
For around $900-$950, a Sapphire Nitro + Vega 64 w/eGFX 650 should beat the Vega 20 BTO in the MacBook Pro. I imagine the Vega 56 could as well, and a Sonnet setup from Sonnet Tech is about $800 right now.
So the DACs in the AMD GPUs are 4x better than nVidia's? Cool! They would need to offer Quadro only in order to get 10bit colour as standard across the range as they currently do with AMD.
The cheapest Vega 56 card can be found for $400 at times. And it has 8GiB HBM2.HBM2 memory is SUPER EXPENSIVE. In fact if I recall nVidia only put HBM2 on it's Titan V card. All the others with the excecption of perhaps Quadro, they used GDDR5 "GDDR5x on 1080ti" and GDDR6 on their high end RTX cards.

A $400 Vega 64 is nearly twice as powerful in FP64 as a $900 Quadro RTX 4000.They are also a full generation behind now that Nvidia has released their Turing cards.
Lets put it this way, if u wanna get excited about mac graphics - dont google 20XX nvidia card benchmarksHow much better are the Vega chips?
In a LAPTOP.So this is equivalent to a desktop card from 2012, for $350

Isn't that as much nVidia's fault as Apple's?There are no web drivers for NVIDIA in Mojave.

If you only want to game, sure buy NVIDIA.LOL, matching 2016 mobile GPU's that have a 70- 80 watt tdp.![]()
I remember seeing Nvidia claims theyve had them for months. Its up to Apple to approve themIsn't that as much nVidia's fault as Apple's?
Funny that no one feels the need to post 1,000 times about THAT, eh?Amazingly, I just went to price out a machine and noticed that Apple lowered the prices on all the upgrades like cpu and ram amount for this laptop. Interesting..
Or any sort of CAD/3D modelling or anything requiring gpu power lolIf you only want to game, sure buy NVIDIA.
If you don't require massive power, a Radeon Pro might be more cost effective.Or any sort of CAD/3D modelling or anything requiring gpu power lol
nVidia "claims" a LOT of things. Some of them are even true...I remember seeing Nvidia claims theyve had them for months. Its up to Apple to approve them
In a LAPTOP.
BIG difference!

Louis Rossman is a cheat and a liar.Apple's aftersales support is quite shocking once you look into it (or experience it, as I have recently). Don't get me wrong, sometimes they knock it out of the park but that seems to be happening less and less. Go to Louis Rossman's YouTube channel and you'll see how shoddy they are. Or look at the recent news coverage about Apple "Geniuses" overcharging customers for simple repairs.

No, I think it is a 56 in the BlackMagic eGPU Pro enclosure.

Mag-Safe has been very much SOLVED by third-party vendors. Some of the solutions are only $10. Get over it.Don't forget about the lack of MagSafe and the emoji bar, I mean touch bar.

I like your eyes and smile-less pic.
Really? Read the specs:You just showed a Vega 64.
An overclocked Vega 64 would have to be looked at. I would imagine that BlackMagic just wants to use a card made by AMD. And they are targeting professionals.
A simple enclosure without fancy stuff (USB, etc) should be fine if you stay within its limits.
