I'm not talking about market share, I'm talking about their terribly aggressive approach to their products ie the third party repair market and the App store.

"the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service."

Can your repair a playstation from a non autorised service center? And how is that a monopoly, or why would you bring your devise to an unauthorised service center were you have no genuine parts warranty or training

Apple's aftersales support is quite shocking once you look into it (or experience it, as I have recently). Don't get me wrong, sometimes they knock it out of the park but that seems to be happening less and less. Go to Louis Rossman's YouTube channel and you'll see how shoddy they are. Or look at the recent news coverage about Apple "Geniuses" overcharging customers for simple repairs.

Why not...runnnig a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with Mojave and an external GPU perfectly fine in both bootcamp and Mojave. Using Sonnet Breakaway box with RX 480

Guys before you reply please see the original reference:
" Hiran said:
Are any cuda-enabled nvidia options available?
Get an eGPU."

An eGPU was suggested as an option for CUDA (NVIDIA). I replied that there are no web video drivers for NVIDIA in Mojave. Even if you operate with NVIDIA in Mojave there will be no acceleration, you will get artifacts etc. it is useless. Don't waste your time. Nvidia operates properly up-to 10.13.6.

Yeah the 13in is so far down in performance compared to the 15in it's kinda deceiving on Apple's part calling both machines "pro". There is no way they could fit a Vega class graphics card in the 13in's thermal budget, but there has to be a card out there with performance in the middle between an intel 650 and a monster vega 16 that would work in the 13 in laptop?

You would have thought Apple could get something in there. But at the end of the day, I assume the 13 would have to become thicker to help with the heat. Not something I can see happening.

There is nowhere to put it in the current 13" MacBook Pro chassis, much less dissipate the heat it generates.

I aggree, it's a shame.

Any comparisons between:

a) Mac Mini with the best external GPU.
vs.
b) MBP with Vega 20 GPU.

Anyone knowledgeable on this...?

On the basis that one has just been released and the other one has just been put on sale, No, nobody is knowledgeable on this.

Because those of us that prefer the 13in form factor would love the better graphics performance.

Because there are several situations where a dedicated graphics card would be helpful in my line of work.
A few examples would be Lumion 3D, Vue Infinite, Unreal Engine all would benefit greatly.
The 13” MBP is a 28W CPU/GPU platform, the 15” is around 80W. There are battery life and cooling considerations that preclude the use of a 35W dGPU in the smaller, 3 lb. 13” MBP.

The best external GPU would be the $1200 Sonnet Technology eGFX Breakaway Box 650 Bundle with a Vega 64 Frontier Edition - https://www.sonnetstore.com/collect...akaway-box-650-bundle-vega64-frontier-edition

This is the same GPU as the iMac Pro, so I would expect it to smoke the Vega 20 in the 15" MacBook Pro.

No, I have no empirical data to back up this claim.

No, I do not care that I have no empirical data to back up this claim.

Always excited to see MBP updates… until I remember the keyboard.

Don't forget about the lack of MagSafe and the emoji bar, I mean touch bar.

My mid 2012 MBP non Retina is still going strong. Maybe in 2022 at my 10th year anniversary I'll look for a newer MBP... if they are still around.

I like your eyes and smile-less pic.

Frontier would theoretically give you an improvement for professional use. Not for gaming.

You could buy an eGPU enclosure and a gaming Vega 64 separately.

And don't buy a reference cooler.

Amazingly, I just went to price out a machine and noticed that Apple lowered the prices on all the upgrades like cpu and ram amount for this laptop. Interesting..

I’m seeing the exact same price in the UK, which is good for me. I don’t really care about the Vega options because I was already stretching the budget and intend to get an eGPU in the future, but if they also dropped the upgrade prices, I’d be very annoyed.

AMDs marketing is saying 60fps 1080p AAA gaming. Apple’s own info says 60% faster.

I mostly use mine for 3D animation and rendering and on the go. If this is the case, my current MBP will be going in Ebay shortly.

I hope it’s true but it seems that:

Radeon Pro Vega 16 could be like a GeForce GTX 470 or GeForce GTX 560 Ti which are 2010-2011 cards.

Radeon Pro Vega 20 could be like a GeForce GTX 660 which was released on 2012!

They should include (or at least give the option) nVidia cards, even if they have to add a fan and and few millimeters to the case.

I think the 2018 13” Touch Bar—with its quad-core CPU, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, 500 nits/P3/True Tone display—can legitimately be called a Pro model.

But the 2017 non-TB model suffers in comparison to the 2018 13” MBP. It’s hard for me to think of the 2017 $1,499 256GB non-Touch Bar as a Pro model, with its 15W dual-core CPU. The $300 bump to the 2018 quad-core buys a lot of upgrade for the money.
