Good news for you: they still have the pre-Touch Bar MBPs around which are pretty much the better buy compared to these overpriced lumps of fancy aluminium.
Except they're not.

My early 2011 15" MacBook Pro needs up dating. If it only had USB3 and Thunderbolt 2.
2009. 13" MacBook Pro and the return of FireWire. When was the last time Apple brought back a feature they removed?
And lower the price close somewhere near the current 13" MBA (or less...)Hopefully they'll update the Macbook 12". I'm in need of replacing my Macbook Air 13" 2012 model.
Apple, please amaze me... or you'll be amazed by how fast I stop supporting you guys. I've been barely holding on for too long, this is your last shot.
You can strap a powerbank (or multiple ones) to it and charge it via USB-C. You couldn't do this with previous MBPs, a USB powerbank cannot supply 110/230 V all previous chargers needed.17 inch MBP/A?
24 hour battery...

I'm afraid MBA is dead. It was making too much sense and it was too useful.
On the 2011 MBA they re-introduced the backlit keyboard. It was there on the first generation version (2008-2009), then removed when they redesigned it in 2010 (I remember because I bought it) and then re-introduced with the spec-bump in 2011.When was the last time Apple brought back a feature they removed?
I'm serious. I don't recall.
Im gonna say it...but I have to say it....
I JUST SPENT 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A TOP OF THE LINE VERSION OF THIS MACBOOK TWO MONTHS AGO!
AND IT GETS DEVALUED ALREADY?!?!?!?!

... that's weird. i thought that macbook is selling so INCREDIBLY well, why does it need an update after such a short period of time? ;-)
My dad had an 11" MBA and a friend had a 13" one but honestly i was never a fan of it. The display resolution feels like stone age. The display bezels are biiiig, too. - What's wrong about the MacBook 12" as an alternative? I never understood why people would not accept it, except for the keyboard and the slow CPU maybe, but coming from macbook air it sounds like an upgrade to me. - Can you explain ?
To add the higher capacity battery they planned for originally and use minor design updates for components that failed to often. It will reduce Apple repair costs. It has nothing to do with sales, or... maybe it does: More sales, more to gain by more robust components.
Here is the shocking news: it was NEVER worth the $4000 (4999 Euro in Europe)
It is an old model now, so it cannot be compared spec by spec. If it was updated with a retina display, though, while maintaining its number ports (updated where needed) it would blow current MB and 13" MBP out of the water. It was the perfect balance of performance/usability/connectivity and portability.
I'd love to be proved wrong, but I don't think apple will give us something really useful.
