Seriously hoping for Kaby Lake CPUs, a bump in GPU power (Radeon Pro 560 or a GTX 1050/1050 Ti, because I know hoping for a GTX 1060 is unrealistic) and a drop in price. Gimme that, and I'll order one instantly.

When was the last time Apple brought back a feature they removed?
I'm serious. I don't recall.

When Apple brought back Firewire 800 to the old 13" MacBook Pro when all pro users freaked out because it was a necessity back then. Same goes with the SD card slot now. It's a necessity for photographers and low-budget filmmakers right now.

Apple *used* to remove features when there came to be a viable (and better) replacement for said feature. That was a good thing to do because it would force the industry to push forward. But now it seems like they remove features just for the heck of it. It's not ok. It makes everyone's lives more difficult. There is currently NO viable alternative to the SD card; therefore, there's no reason it should have ever been removed to begin with.

You guys are incredible. If apple doesn't update you complain. If apple does update, you complain. You might be happier with a windows machine.

If Apple doesn't update it's a shame because their current offerings don't cater to pros. This is clearly true as Apple held the press conference apologies for it and promising better offerings soon. Being critical is the best way to hope for a better product. Not lying down and assuming Apple knows best.

Don't yell at me guys but I'm still hoping for an updated Air!
[doublepost=1496089268][/doublepost]Don't yell at me guys but I'm still hoping for an updated Air to drop!
If they bump the Air back up to the price where it was the first two years it came out (e.g. >$2000 for an SSD model), would you still be okay with that?

I am finding most people like the Air because it is cheap and gets the job done. Apple has never been about being cheap, so I fully expect them to phase out the Air and tell all those folks to either get a MacBook or the iPad Pro if they do not want to buy the MBP.

... that's weird. i thought that macbook is selling so INCREDIBLY well, why does it need an update after such a short period of time? ;-)

if it's true, i would be very happy if apple listens to people. i'm really, really curious.
Nine months is an eternity in the computer industry, especially with Skylake CPU's approaching 2 years old.

Im going to murder someone if this refresh is still stuck at 16GB RAM 5 years later....Its the only thing preventing me from upgrading my Mid 2012 MBPr

Wasn't my point, you said there were no power banks which supply 220 Volt, there are.
And my point is that it is much easier to use a powerbank with a USB-C charging MBP than with a MagSafe charging one. Even if there were no powerbank supplying 230 V, you could always get transformers to solve that. But almost nobody did, because it meant extra devices and extra cables (whether it was this 230 V powerbank + MagSafe charging brick or a USB Powerbank + transformer + MagSafe charging brick). And since the batteries in those devices don't supply 230 V, anything that goes via a 230 V step is less efficient (power and size-wise). And most people have other devices that charge via USB, which makes being able to use a USB powerbank to charge your MBP better because of the charging synergies.

My guess:

2017: minor updates to MBA, reduce entry level MBP by $150 - from US$1299 to $1149.
2018: reduce entry level MBP another $150 - from $1149 to $999 and phase out MBA.

Either this or reduce MBP by $100 each year and phase the MBA by 2019.

All they will do is update the processor and then try and squeeze some more battery life out of it. That's ALL they will do, the price will not drop, no new features will be added, it will just be a small spec bump. Maybe they'll update the discrete graphics but I doubt it.

To be honest I think an iPad, and the new Surface Pro and the new Mac Pro or iMac when they are launched will be a pretty good setup.

Can Apple pretend this egregious MacBook "Pro" never happened and introduce a 17" edge to edge display into the previous MBP form factor together with all usable ports, Magsafe, improved battery cells, 32GB ram, a better GPU, no touchbar, a reasonably sized trackpad and less soldered components?

Alongside a flashy reveal of the next gen iMac, Mac Pro and Mac mini?

#wishfulthinking

All of this stuff would make a WWDC interesting. One last thing...

However, I think a silent refresh of the range either before or after WWDC more likely :)

Why should Apple give two sheets about "low-budget" anything?
Okay, let's say you are right and that Photags, who obviously aren't Pro as they are still using SD cards instead of CFFast or XQD cards, would like an SD slot. What would happen if Apple put in a type 1 slot? All those with the newer type II SD card users would cry foul and wonder why Apple is catering to low-budget losers instead of real Pros in the first place. I'm being harsh, but its because what YOU want is not what Apple is building for. There is absolutely no reason you cannot use an SD adapter and the much faster PCI-based USB-C port in the new MBP. That way a photag who is using CFFast or XQD cards can ALSO take advantage of the same speedy port when s/he is transferring images as well. Get it?!

nice... but adding better components and any significant price drop at the same time doesn't really exist in the Apple world. Usually it's one or the other.

My only problem with the current machines is the price. Hopefully with a processor bump and optional RAM above 16gb for those who need it.

There's nothing that they'd be happy with!

Bought one literally on this day 6 months ago. My first time ever buying a computer. 2 and a half grand. 3 hour battery. Half a year into it's life, cast aside by the company that made it.

Computer companies update their computers all the time. Had it been a PC, even at that price point it would have been updated with a new model by this time. Never expect to have the latest in computing technology for more than a couple months regardless of if you paid $200, $2000 or $20000.

We're not criticizing them, we're coaching them. ;)

Any hardware rumor in connection with WWDC is welcome. Since there was no spring hardware announcements, lots of products are really due. iMacs are old as well.

it's pretty normal for apple to update MBP fairly often within designs.. for example, this decade:
mid 2010
early 2011
late 2011
mid 2012
early 2013
late 2013
mid 2014
mid 2015

so oct2016 to jun2017 isn't 'a short period of time' with regards to MBP update schedule.. just normal is all

Yes, the ports are really bad on MacBook 12". - For me the show stopper on MBA was mainly the display. I could never understand why they would just put a retina display in MBA. - Thinking of a MBA with retina display, i'd fully agree would be a good deal.
Kaby Lake efficiency on a low TDP snappy beast, now if they could make it the same depth throughout..
=fill it with the new batteries & maybe a 'slightly' larger trackpad, on the 2015 13" model I'd get 24+hrs runtime anyways (i5):D
