2009. 13" MacBook Pro and the return of FireWire. :)
Close. There never was a 13" MBP without FW. There was a 13" MB without FW, which got renamed to MBP when Firewire was added.

There was a 12" Powerbook G4 (2003-2006) with FW. One could argue that it was 'replaced' by the 13" aluminium MB in 2008 without FW (but that is a two-year gap without any 'high-end' 12/13" Mac laptop). But by that token you could already call the 2006 white 13" MB as the 12" Powerbook successor. The white 13" MB got sold from 2006 through 2011. It was sort-of replaced as the entry-level Mac laptop by the 11" and 13" MBPs in 2010.

I don't think you can really quote the 2009 13" MBP as re-instating a feature that had previously be removed. It was rather a product line that was cancelled (12" Powerbook) that got reinstated with the 2009 13" MBP.

There are power banks with 220 Volt output, like this one.

You'd still needed to carry the charger as well (Powerbank > Charger > Laptop), whereas with USB-C charging you can cut the charger out of the equation (which also removes some extra cabling).

To add the higher capacity battery they planned for originally and use minor design updates for components that failed too often. It will reduce Apple repair costs. It has nothing to do with sales, or... maybe it does: More sales, more to gain by more robust components.

Yeah better battery life would definately be good. I know it's unrealistic but i wish they would add some legacy ports, too.

Isn't that the case with anything technology related? It devalues Naturally and is ultimately superceded by a newer model.

True. Sure, I do check Macbuyers guide when I decide to buy a new computer. Just to avoid buying an expensive computer while the very next day a new model comes out.... But besides that I don't care. I'll not wait to buy equipment I need for work when a certain model is just over two months old. Besides, the current MacBook Pro is still a very solid decent powerful laptop. And more importantly, I can do my work on it without any issues.

Its what you can do with a computer that counts, if it does the job then it works for me.

While this is strange to say. He's actually right. Apple doesn't care about one user considering switching platforms, certainly when they are still making more and more profit..
Except that it's never just one user on a forum. If they don't provide enough incentive for people to stay, people will leave. Naturally, a large number of the people here are hardcore Apple fans and would never leave the church of Apple, since within the church resides their savior, but the rest of us use Apple products for actual reasons, and Apple has been removing some those reasons over the past few years. For now, there are still enough reasons, but they shouldn't take it for granted.

Im gonna say it...but I have to say it....

AND IT GETS DEVALUED ALREADY?!?!?!?!

As harsh as it sounds, welcome to technology purchases.

There is no way to avoid new technology progress. If you want to maximize your time before you suffer the pain you describe, buy the first day they roll something out and hope that's a model that basically sticks for a very long time. Those who spent more than you for a Mac Pro back when it was last updated have enjoyed a very long time in a concept of price preservation.

The other tired comeback that is also true: this is not an investment, it's a tool. This tool will still do everything you bought it to do at exactly the same quality level that influenced your purchase decision. Enjoy the consistency of it still being able to do everything you bought it to do in spite of it being 2 months old. And know that it will still do everything you bought it to do upwards of years from now.

Chasing "latest & greatest" is a game nobody can really win without very loose, but well-stuffed pockets. Buy what you need when you need it knowing that updated models will follow- perhaps soon. Then, enjoy the tools you've purchased.

Can Apple pretend this egregious MacBook "Pro" never happened and introduce a 17" edge to edge display into the previous MBP form factor together with all usable ports, Magsafe, improved battery cells, 32GB ram, a better GPU, no touchbar, a reasonably sized trackpad and less soldered components?

Alongside a flashy reveal of the next gen iMac, Mac Pro and Mac mini?

Seems you are Apple's current target and consciously supporting these practices, imagine how "fantastic" the machine is that they immediately revamped it.

You guys are incredible. If apple doesn't update you complain. If apple does update, you complain. You might be happier with a windows machine.
Where in frank303's post was there a complaint?
... that's weird. i thought that macbook is selling so INCREDIBLY well, why does it need an update after such a short period of time? ;-)

if it's true, i would be very happy if apple listens to people. i'm really, really curious.
Nope, still can't see it.

This newest update will just be a switch to the Kaby Lake processor and possibly 32gb of RAM. That's it. I guess I'm gonna try and get my 2011 17" Macbook Pro through one more year of waiting. If Apple hasn't released a true professional laptop by the end of the year then I'm done. I've been pushed as far as I can go. So tired of Apple listening to casual consumers over actual professionals. I wish Tim Cook would just officially cut the cord, instead of consistently promising their professional base that they haven't abandoned them, while simultaneously handing them subpar machines that simply don't work well in professional environments. These are NOT pro machines. They are very fancy consumer laptops. That is it.
