Didn't have problems with my fans yet, but my screen still flickers lake crazy at times...

Why’s there always so many Samsung contractors commenting on MacRumors?!!!! So obvious they are paid by Samsung or just extreme Korean patriots, the former has higher probability.

FACT: Samsung is never the top SSD producer on the market, never better than SanDisk.

Find me a sandisk ssd as good as the 830 series or 840/840pro samsung ssd's/ You won't. Of course apple doesn't use those high end components and uses bottom barrel ssd's from both manufacturers.

But charges premium prices. :D

Exactly. Even worse is the binned gpus in the 15 inch pros. The 1899 one comes with only 512mb of vram. I don't know a single other manufacturer using 512mb video cards anymore especially at that price.

I must be one in a million!

I bought a refurb 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD last week, both my screen and my SSD are Samsung :D

Not sure about heavy usage though, my CPU hit 90 degrees Celsius without the fans kicking up unless I do it using iStat Menus. Anyone know why?

I was hoping for a retina MBA this year or next, but now I'm a little worried with these SSD issues.

I'd avoid the current MBPr at all costs.

Wait till Apple releases the next gen version.

Then wait even longer, as others serve as Apple's beta testers.

See what kind of reviews come in and what defects the first batches are shipped with.

Once those are fixed, then it should be safe to buy.

Good luck, it's getting to be like gambling :)

Apple laptops always run hot. There's so little room for air to circulate in an ultra thin aluminum housing stuffed full of components.

Thats why I never buy 1st or 2nd gen. I usually always wait until 3rd or 4th.

The problem has become so pervasive and affecting so many users, the story's finally hitting MR, Apple Insider, and others.

With some luck perhaps Apple will take responsibility instead of hiding, or denying, or simply letting it go without their attention.

I really would love to have the old Apple back. The one I used to be able to order a new laptop from and be excited. Knowing I would be receiving the best of the best.

It's why I have been a loyal Apple customer.

Whats strange is I never noticed that my Fans generally are blaring full blast @6000 or low at about 2000. There never is a inbetween and I don't even have a MBPr, I have a 13" MacBook Pro.

Is this normal?

God my 2nd gen MacBook use to do that as well, I hated it. Fans spinning up for no reason can drive a person nuts!

Are you sure it was for no reason? My first-gen MacBook's fans spin up often, but that's because it gets hot easily.

Yes. If you want to see something fun take a pre unibody MacBook and run anything flash. Jet plane in 3-2-1. Lol. Even with the latest version and on both the 950 and x3100 cards. The last of them, the white only with 9400 I don't think does it.

lol, it is the truth. Then again though Flash even does this to a lot of high end Windows PC. I have a high end Windows PC that can do a lot of 3D Rendering, Video Editing, high quality games with absolutely no problem. Though as soon as anything Flash plays my computer sounds a jet taking off.

Oh how I can't wait for Flash to just go away already! I just love how you take away all my memory and CPU Processes for no reason!

This problem has nothing to do with Flash or running programs (that's a separate issue). I'm able to reproduce this full speed fan spike after a fresh format and wipe to factory stock Mountain Lion with NO ADOBE FLASH installed. I also reset the SMC and PRAM to eliminate those as possible causes. It happens whenever I do any type of large file transfer on my MBP 15 Retina. Very likely it's the Sandisk SSD because the exact same test/conditions with a Samsung SSD doesn't cause the same fan spike.

I'm very reluctant to take my MBP Retina 15 in for service as it was tough enough getting one with a Samsung screen (LG one has known image retention issues). I don't want them to swap out my machine and get one with an LG screen. Called AppleCare and they told me the fan noise was "normal" which is a load of baloney. They said I could still get it inspected by an Apple Store if it still bugged me.

That was a while ago before anybody at AppleCare knew what was going on, and before this issue surfaced on the forums. I'm just going to hold tight for a while and hope Apple can fix this with a SMC firmware update or a Mountain Lion update.

Other than this my MBP 15 Retina is bloody perfect so I really don't want to give it up / send it in for service yet.

The guy needs to get his priorities straight. His first problem is he needs to reevaluate how much Coldplay is in his music library, the cooling fan is a distant problem in comparison. :(

You took the words right out of my mouth!!!

The French have funny taste sometimes. They dislike their own very good artists but like corny populist rubbish when it's in English...

And don't forget that McDonald's or "McDo" is more popular in France than any other country. Quite ironic really.

Sad but true. It's apparent that, in an effort to get the jump on its competitors and rivals, Apple expects early adopters to be beta testers because they simply don't spend enough time and/or effort on internal testing and ramping up supplier production yields.

I'm now extremely cautious about jumping in early and generally won't buy a new Apple design for at least six months after its release. This is bad news for Apple that focuses so much on hype for its new products to keep margins high.

My brother had two rMBPs break (the second being the trackpad of all things). I would've thought that they'd have ironed out the display issues, graphics issues, creaky cases, wake from sleep issues etc by now so it's sad to see a new issue to contend with just when I need to buy one too.

Does anyone know if 768 Gb and/or 512 Gb drives are all Samsung?

After a tremendous amount of research here's what I know. The ultra pricey 768GB option is a Samsung SSD.

We have taken delivery of approximately 20 - 15" MBPR's at work, a few at a time during the month of Feb, the same month I bought mine. They are configured with either 256 or 512 SSD's all of which are SanDisk brand.

How the hell did anyone try to connect an SSD to a fan issue....??

Because this is the only piece of hardware is common with the people who have the problem.

Macbook Pro Retina 2012 with a Samsung SSD = no problem
Macbook Pro Retina 2012-2013 with a Sandisk SSD = problem
New Macbook Pro Retina 2013 with Sandisk SSD = problem
New Macbook Pro Retina 2013 with Samsung SSD = no problem

So true.

Plus many of us have been testing other areas quite extensively. When as many proven & reliable tests all return the same result: no faults, it reveals the one thing we have in common, the exact same SSD, looks awfully likely.

Hopefully Apple can resolve it with a software update. That would save everyone a lot of trouble.

 Apple has used the Samsung 830 for about a year now. Anyway, AnandTech actually had data loss issues when he tested a Samsung 840 in December, so even Samsung isn't immune to issues.

I wouldn't be too worried. It sounds like a software issue. Even Samsung had to issue new firmware for their latest 840 series because of data loss issues.
