Anyone using the 256mb card? I was leaning towards the base 15" and was curious what the FPS were like.

Regardless, I'm sure it's better than my 1.83ghz C2D MacBook.

I still play WoW now and again on my pre ub 2008 MBP when I'm on the road. It's the 15" with the 8600GT 256MB and I get steady 30-50 fps with all settings high. I cap my fps at 50 otherwise I'm sure I'd note higher frames at times. The new model cards ( even if the 256 ) will fair fine for WoW.

Turning off "Full-Screen Glow Effect" and turning Shadow Quality all the way down has made a HUGE difference in the performance. 80 to 100+ fps in Dalaran now.

actually WOW is a very processor intensive game. So yes the difference between the i5 and i7 will be significant. The graphics card will make a difference also. I dont know how WOW runs on an i5 but i know on an i7 it runs nicely. Same thing with a nice dual core, which tbh is what most games use.No games except maybe GTA4 use all 4 cores. I doubt in the future they will either. Getting dual core support took about 3 years after they came out so you will be waiting awhile for quad core full support. WOW is also a game that only uses 2 cores unless you mess with values in the code.

Sadly, every benchmark i've seen the i5 is par with the i7.
It doesn't seem like you get any difference in FPS, not even if the i7 is clocked slightly higher.

WHAT DID WE LEARN?
If our tests are representative,
1. The fastest 2010 MacBook Pro is 10% to 32% faster than the fastest 2009 MacBook Pro.
2. The MBP Core i7 beats the MBP Core i5 by only 0% to 6% -- mainly because they have the same GPU and we were running at native 1920x1200 resolution at high or ultra quality. If your main use of the MacBook Pro is for gaming, the MacBook Pro Core i7 may not be worth the extra $200 (or 9%) premium over the Core i5.
3. The iMac Core i7 is 64% to 113% faster than the MacBook Pro Core i7 due largely to the much faster GPU.

The only thing I advise not to do when installing WoW on a new machine/install is to simply copy the folder over.

I highly urge you to do a fresh install for optimal performance.

Why do you think that this would make any difference?

Well I suppose a straight copy would be using a config file that was set to settings for the older spec. Not sure if WoW is clever enough to realise the hardware has changed and reset the settings or not.

Just delete the WTF folder and wow will be starting like it's a fresh install.

Hey, is anyone else having problems updating WoW? I did a fresh install of WotLK on my new MBP and the patch updater freezes at 10%. Eventually it says to check my connection or firewall. Any advice on this problem?

Are you on a wireless network? If you are and have access to a wired network, try it.

If you are on a school/public network the updater might be blocked since its a bittorrent client.

Downloading the patches manually could be a solution too tho.

Yep, processor has little affect on WoW performance within each machine. If you want to see a big jump in WoW gaming, move to a 27" iMac. It has a destop processor, better graphics, and 4 RAM slots. I'm using a 27" i5 at 2560x1440 at full game graphics and the speed is amazing.
