Yes, glass is glass but if you look at Apple Pro's video the phone itself still works after the abuse which is more important to me than the back glass. But I will agree, it's a little disappointing that pro max glass can crack easier but I just a case and have apple care so I am good.

I would be more concerned if the phone totally stopped working after one or two hard falls. That would be worth complaining about.

It hasn’t been since bendgate that iPhone has had a significant durability regression

This video doesn’t convince me that we have one this generation, but only time with enough of them in enough peoples’ hands will tell; maybe we do, maybe we don’t… let’s see

So, here are where the issues lie the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro max have adhesive throughout the entire back of the phone. Its aluminum structure is also more solid than the 15 Pro/Max due to the 15Pro/Max having a big hole cutout in the frame for the wireless charging coil. The 14 series didn’t have this.

Is it a big deal? It’s according to how rough you are with your devices. Personally I’m not rough on mine so I’m not sure it would be an issue for me, but for some it may. Do I believe the things in these videos will be seen in real world usage? In most cases probably not, but at the end of the day I guess the 14 Pro/Max are more durable than the iPhone 15 Pro/Max 🤷🏼‍♂️.

It's also funny how only when the 15 pro was announced and released that I see so many " fans" of the 14 pro. When it was the latest phone, a large majority of the people on these forums were crying about it being a lame upgrade ( mainly from yearly upgrade people).

All I saw was post after post of

-Phone being too heavy
- Pictures are not as good as 13 pro max
-Battery life or battery health issues
- Not enough of an upgrade from 13 pro

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed my 14 Pro Max and had no real issues with it. At first, I was in the camp that wasn't going to upgrade to the 15 pro max. But As of now, I am really glad I did because the small quality of life improvements made it worthwhile for me. And with my 14 pro max trade in, I only paid 550 out of pocket for a 256 15 Pro max.

I have an Xs max and was really looking forward to upgrade to a 15 pro max this year as mine just isn’t cutting it anymore.

I can’t afford a new one every 2-3 years and this just saddens me. I never use my phones naked always a case and screen protectors on, is this going to be a problem for me or should I not be worried?

As long as it’s not the repeat of the 6 plus bendgate.

Still, info like this is useful. I can’t see myself putting my 15PM under that much stress, but now I know to be mindful that it’s more delicate than my previous 14PM and definitely the 11PM which was tough af.

No, it shouldn't be. If you use a case and/or get AppleCare it should be alright.

I’ve bought some cases which are so hard to put on and remove I feared I might break my phone trying to pry them out or push them in. In this situation I guess I’ll avoid getting those cases because it looks like I possibly could see my fears realized.

I’ll stick to Casekoo and Torras clear cases then. There’s a leather one I had my eye on but I’ll have to see if the back is rigid enough to protect the vulnerable spot.

I don’t think I’d go caseless after seeing JerryRig’s video. And I’ll probably spring for Apple Care+. I don’t think I’d be sending my 15 Pro Max back for a regular 15 Pro over this. The only reason I’d part with this phone at this point is if the display gives me migraines like my 14 Pro Max display did.

I’m not at all surprised about the ability to scratch the color off the side rails. Duh! You can do that to aluminum iPhones, too (and Android phones). These colors are just a surface layer and always have been.

I owned and used the hell out of a Pixel phone Zach of JerryRig snapped like a graham cracker. It’s still here and still fine. It was in a simple Pixel cloth case with a thin plastic frame.

Again, I am not making excuses here but physical damage is fine as long as the phone still can function ( which they do) it's fine. I literally just found out the dude's name is Zach. I thought his name was Jerry since the channel is JerryRig Everything lol.

Trying to bend the phone in half is not representative of normal usage anymore than using a lighter on the front screen. And as GM said, the scratching can represent keys in the same pocket over time. And wen you scratch paint, it flakes off. Like I said, the video was made to get video clicks. It isn't educational. It is fear mongering. The best defense against anxiety and fear is knowledge coupled with common sense.

He named the channel after his grandfather, if I remember correctly. But everyone thinks his name is Jerry. Even I called him Jerry and realized what I did and fixed it before I posted!

Yeah I’m not making excuses either. I hope Apple addresses this in the next generation. And I do think people who don’t use cases need to think twice, given how different the situation is for this generation of Pro Maxes. I’m not gonna lie, I’m not pleased about this.

But we will have to see how this all plays out in the real world with actual customers going about their day. Most women I know, for example, use cases because we put our phones in handbags and purses and our phones would get scuffed and shattered hitting up against the other things we stuff in there.

I don’t think it’s reason to panic about our purchases at this point.

Apple has an interesting history with titanium.

The titanium conceals a flimsy plastic frame inside, and the coating scratches just by looking at it. Almost impossible to find any in good condition today.

Yea, I would say 95% of iPhone users use cases anyway that would help with protection. But again, if it's cheaper to repair and the phone still functions after a drop, this isn't as big of an issue as people are making it out to be. Now again, the day Apple puts out a phone that stops working after ONE hard drop, then I will join in the " hate mob" lol.

When I said the coating scratches easily I meant it.

Hinge failures are common as well. It isn’t a well thought out design. The aluminum generations do not do this.

Those were painted, which was a bad idea. Everyone now, including Apple uses PVD.

And yes, the hinge was weak. When they moved to the current hinge design, it finally lasted for decades.

If anyone is worried about a 15PM back glass issue, just buy an Otterbox Commuter and no worries going forward. 14 series: there is enough now to say wait. Anyone else should consider the upgrade even with the possible bendgate issue. As long as you are informed of the issues you should do as you feel fit to do without too much criticism.

I can step on my glasses and smash them.

I can throw all my plates and dishes from a window and they will all smash.

Hulk Hogan proved you can tear t-shirts apart with your hands.

In reality these things don't happen unless you are extremely dumb, extremely unlucky, or making stupid YouTube videos for hits.

There's a reason why its called 'sensationalism'.

If you have the phone in your back pocket and forget about it and sit down then that is easily the bending force you see in the videos if not more so it is pertinent. Young women always have these in the back pocket and thus are especially prone. And it’s cracked glass and shards in you bum area - who wants that? 😬
