Trying to bend the phone in half is not representative of normal usage anymore than using a lighter on the front screen. And as GM said, the scratching can represent keys in the same pocket over time. And wen you scratch paint, it flakes off. Like I said, the video was made to get video clicks. It isn't educational. It is fear mongering. The best defense against anxiety and fear is knowledge coupled with common sense.

It can represent accidentally sitting on your phone (or keeping it in your back pocket, as I see some people are doing), although it probably would have been better to see the effect of actually sitting on the phone on a couch rather than these bend tests.

Some of my family have left their phone/devices on the couch before, and I’ve accidentally sat on a few things without realizing they were there in the first place :)

Easily? Lol the dude’s hands are almost shaking cause he’s using so much force
He does it with every phone. Lately the iPhones have been indestructible and he noted it. But bending as hard as he can the amount of force in the test should be consistent. Nobody cares about the bend test since the iPhone 6 so to get a failure now was sort of inevitable.

Tradeoffs. In previous phones, if you broke the back glass, it couldn’t be replaced. You had to replace half of the phone to repair it. In the new design, the back glass can be removed, but since it’s not glued down to everything, it’s made it a bit more fragile.

I mean, maybe “having the same person try to bend the new phone 365 days after they tried to bend the old phone” would’ve been considered a scientific control in the age of the ancient Greeks, but we have ways to actually measure force now. And mechanically construct harnesses that would apply the force exactly the same to multiple phones.

Apple knows - they just aren’t telling us… 😑

If you have the phone in your back pocket and forget about it and sit down then that is easily the bending force you see in the videos if not more so it is pertinent. Young women always have these in the back pocket and thus are especially prone. And it’s cracked glass and shards in you bum area - who wants that? 😬

However, the result was (IMO) worse, the bending probably caused the battery pack to flex substantially, puncture a battery cell, and ignite a fire.

In which I say, there are such cases/scenarios but outliers/rare. Of course, that’s not what these influencers portray.

I have sat on my iPad a few times on a few different chairs/sofa. I must have been quite distracted not to notice. :) Anyway, thankfully, there was never damage, not even bending. I’m thinking the savior was me standing up almost immediately every time.

Scientific control is doing this 1000 + times …

It seems that the Pro Max back glass breaks pretty easily if the phone is flexed.
People shouldn’t be flexing their 15 Pro Max. It’s bad tone.

But seriously. Everything breaks when flexed enough. I don’t think it breaks in normal use.

If the video had done what you described amongst other scenarios, it would have been a better video.

I watch his videos each year and that is the first time I’ve seen the back glass break from flexing the iPhone. I know this thread is rife with excuses and defence of Apple but it doesn’t get away from the fact the phone is more susceptible to damage. If you can break it from bending pressure with your hands, imagine what bodyweight will do if you leave your phone in your back pocket and I’m sure we’ve all done that once or twice.

Handy this year that Apple have made the back glass easier and cheaper to replace and it just so happens it breaks slightly easier.

i agree, just remember, if you drop it back glass face down, it will shattered.

Well this is going to be an on going debate I see. Again, as long as the phone can still function after drops, I am good. Physical damage can be repaired more easily than internal damage.

I know so might say I am “ an apple apologist” or whatever but again I am not like excusing it. We all asked for easier repairs and maybe a Sacrifice had to be made. Again, not making excuses but an easy fix is to put some sort of case on your phone or at least have AppleCare. Maybe it will be addressed in the future.

I don’t know many people are are going to intentionally bend their phone like what was done on the video. Anyway, that’s it for me , I still think this is a pretty good phone.

If this is a deal breaker for you, then I respect that. There are many different phones out there that can meet your needs ( previous iPhone or an Android).

That's it for me, I am definitely out of this topic now 😂.

JerryRig videos can be compared to each other to see the differences in structural integrity. And as has been commented above, this 15 Pro Max shattered so easily it was surprising to him and us regular viewers. The 15 Pro did withstand the test easily like usual as can be seen at the end of the video. So it seems there is a legitimate concern about the structure of this phone.

Now I agree most people won't be applying this much force in this particular way. However I would compare this to iPhone 6 which broke easily under the same kind of pressure. People were defending saying it was not significant (despite numerous real life examples, goes to show). But then Apple improved the structure of the iPhone 6S thus solving the issue. So it turned out that maybe the "click-bait YouTube influencer test" had an impact after all, even if not every single user encountered the problem.

I would also point out that all other tests in the video showed excellent results, including higher than usual scratch resistance which is extremely rare as far as I can remember. But yeah, I understand the deniers have to defend their expensive purchase.

What (if they do anyway) will they repair/change if it’s get bend bc wearing it sometime in the back trouser pocket + without a case?
Any suggestions what would it cost?

Always go naked and really thinking of going back to the 14 pro..

Apple should do it just to troll all the people crying about this or trying to make it "bend gate part 2". Also, making it cost more to fix like it was previously.

Does ‘talking’ about something that you don’t think is a big deal personally, get referred to as ‘crying’ because you think it belittles the other persons point of view? Seems an odd choice of word in a discussion like this, especially as we are all customers from the same brand.
