Genuinely such an exciting part of tech history to have lived through.

In elementary school, my friend had a Palm Pilot, and I thought it'd be cool if the iPod company had a go at making something similar.

I doodled a tiny PDA with a Finder icon in some class, and within the year, the iPhone was introduced.

There was something so slick about the iPhone; it combined many devices and integrated them fluidly in a way that just felt futuristic.

Man I still remember the wow factor of this device. I was able to get one in Canada from a guy in the US as I just had to have one. All my friends were teasing me for being an Apple fanboy, they all had blackberry's....

A client declared to me that NOTHING would dethrone the Blackberry, NOTHING, EVER! So, Blackberry? Hmm... :D

He also complained about the Blackberry server software to forward MS Exchange messages not working well, if at all.

Apart from Apple itself, this may turn out to be Steve's greatest legacy in the product category. It even took Steve a while to realize just how big it would get (together with the iPad) - and at his death, he had only seen a glimpse of it, a glimmer in the eye if you want.

Apple grew into nothing less but an Empire by and with the iPhone. I think their turnover is bigger than the GPD of most states (they're somewhere in the 40s on that list) - that's why I think they can truly be called an Empire at this point.

I remember using my friend's iphone (first gen) to surf the web. Heck when the iphone was first announced we had a massive debate at work as to who will use iphone and who will stick with BB. Using a basic phone at that time, I decided to go with BB. At the end I ended up going to Synbian OS then to Android for a while before moving towards iphone.

I got mine at First Colony Mall that weekend. They’re the only ones that had it in stock. Came to work that following Monday and everyone was like I knew you were going to get one. I was surprised how many companies were blocking them from accessing their system, especially email. I get it, smtp/pop3 isn’t really secure.

Also, you still can’t change your snooze time. Get a reminder and you can snooze for a set amount of time. You can’t say snooze for X minutes instead, unless I missed that somewhere.

When the iPhone went on sale in June 2007, the retail prices were $499* (4GB) and $599* (8GB) but those prices weren't sustainable. Less than three months later, prices were reduced $200. The following year, the 8GB iPhone 3G was just $199*. In a year’s time, the price of an 8GB iPhone significantly dropped by 2/3rds. Without those notable price reductions, the iPhone story could've turned out differently.

*Required 2 year AT&T contract.

I’ve been trying so hard to get a original iPhone 2007 iPhone, but they are so expensive. Not spending 400 dollars.

I remember playing with the original model my dad got. It was so mind-boggling at the time. He still has that model stored away in its original box.

Looking back, didn't really have an affinity for the device. Wasn't until the 4 that I was truly interested, but got in with the 5c because it released in yellow.

I was so beyond pumped for this. I remember feeling like the king of the world when I got mine. Now, it's funny to look back and see how limited it really was. Haha.

Still have so many amazing memories of the launch day, and first week. My iPhone actually didn’t make it a week, I ended up jumping into a pool with it at a July 4th party… took me a long while before I remembered it was in my bathing suit pocket, and iPhones REALLY didn’t like water back then. maybe the first water damaged iPhone ever? great times!

15 years ago today, I never again have had to go to the Cingular/AT&T store and pick out a phone that looked cool and seemed like it would be fine for the next 2 years from Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Blackberry, etc.

I remember it as just yesterday. The high price and insane low memory make me to wait for the next generation. My first one was iPhone 3G
Same here. I remember being impressed by the original, but I couldn't justify the cost. Then when the 3G came out, and the App Store opened, it was worth it to me. I also remember thinking that, someday, the iPhone would have enough storage that I could put my entire music collection on it and replace my iPod.

For me, the best iPhone (for its time) was the 4, what with its Retina display, better camera, and other new features. I've since had the 5, 6S+, and XR. These days, the only reason I upgrade is for a substantially better camera. I'm holding out for the 15 Pro Max because of the rumored periscope optical zoom lens. My wife uses her iPhone for almost everything, so I got her a 13 Pro Max last fall. I'm partial to the iPad, so I got myself a 2021 12.9" Pro. We're both happy. :)
