16 gb is working fine for me. 5.7 gb free and I have everything loaded that I want. Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and about 40 other apps. There's my iTunes music library too.

I'm doing fine with the 16 Gb iPad.
I have over 90 apps, 200 photos, 3 TV shows, 1 movie, 20 books and magazines, 30 comics and tons of documents and PDF's and still have almost 5 GB left.
Most of my entertainment stuff I stream to the iPad but seldom listen to music on it as I have my home stereo for that streamed from my Mac Pro.
It sounds way better that way.

I still have 9Gb free with 2Gb of dropbox files sync'd. I don't keep media on mine though. Everything's streamed. You'll be fine as long as you delete the apps that you don't really need. I'm thinking eventually I might get a proper Nav app that would take about 1-2Gb is space, but even then, I think I'll be good.

You will not need 1-2 gb for some nav apps. I have Navigon, and I love it. It used to be over a 2gb download, but now they let you just add the states you want on your device. I live in Oklahoma, and have all the surrounding states downloaded, and its around 700-800bm.

With the combination of Dropbox, air video, and apple's camera connector I can afford to stick with the base model.

16 should be enough for me as I have iCloud, but ended up getting 32 which is more than enough for my use.

A 16GB model would be fine for me, IF only it allowed streaming of icloud music. Everytime I play a song via Music app it streams it but also downloads it at the same time :(

I initially ordered the 16gb, but after about 12 hours of soul searching I didn't want to have to think "Is that enough space?" So, I contacted Apple and changed my order to 32gb model even at the risk of not getting it on release day.

I am glad I did because I seem to be running around 25gb which leaves me a buffer to take some pictures and deal with larger retina apps.

For me a $100 isn't worth the concern over space.

have a bunch of apps... only 4.1gb left. no media whatsoever.

most apps i don't even use though, lol.

think 16 is good with me, itunes match + tmobile 4g = good enough.

16GB of music equals about 200 hrs.

Yep, I listen to that much before lunch most days.

How to you get along with so few songs? LOL :D

Actually I'm in my car a lot and stream it via BT audio. I don't watch movies on my iPad so IMO music is a much better waste of space

Yes, 16gb is plenty of space for me. I have 1,250 ebooks downloaded to my ipad through the Logos app. I have Modern Combat 3 which is the most graphically heavy retina display ready game that you can get on iOS (1.8gb). I have Netflix to watch all my shows. And I have a bunch of other games including Real Racing 2 HD (1.2gb or so) and Chaos and Order and Galaxy of Fire 2 HD (over 1gb) etc.

Tons to read, tons to watch, tons to play. And have 1gb+ of free space left over to have room updating 95% of my apps without doing any juggling. And i'm not sure where people are getting this 12.5 number but i have 13.3gb available on my ipad.

I posted the 12.5. That number came from how much I have used after slimming down my ipad. Assuming the ipad comes with about 2.5gb already gone that would leave me with 15gb used and 1 free.

YOu seem to be able to fit a lot on your iPad. I actually have significantly less than most with no games at all. I guess it boils down to how much data the information you need or want to have will take up.

It depends on what your needs are. 16gb is plenty for me. I keep my music on my 4s and my movies on my computer...streaming to my ATV3. Therefore I use my iPAD mainly for internet, email, and apps. I only have about 8gb worth of apps installed.

No problemmo with the 16GB for urs truly!

I have the apps I want with plenty of room for a few movies for those on the go moments.

It's all gold!

All kidding aside, I'm with you. I never use mine for movies.

Music is another thing.

From the first iPod, till the present, I've amassed a huge music library. Hooked on iTunes is my weakness >>>> :)

FYI: There are video player apps, i.e. Good Player, that plays most file formats. Virtually eliminating the need to convert.

Yeah, I know. It's jsut that i'm using a 16gb so me converting and putting all the movies I want wouldnt fit either way.

When I stream videos over AirPlay, such as rough Netflix or the NBC app, the video is really choppy and stutters. My Internet is about 25mb/s, so I don't think that's the problem.

Luckily I'm okay with Netflix since they have an apple tv app for it, but for other apps this doesn't work well. Does your video stream pretty consistently?

I got the 16gb, down from the 32 iPad 2 that I had before, and it's been fine so far. I'm using 8gb, using iTunes match (I think ive listened to one song since getting the new iPad, but it's nice to have access to all of them when I want.

Most of the space I use is due to photos and apps. I have a few apps that are a few hundred mb, but most are fairly small, and haven't gotten substantially larger with the retina updates as all the "experts" predicted. Certainly not 4 times bigger.

And I don't keep any movies on it either, just use Netflix. I have a few videos I shot, but nothing more than a few minutes long.

That's really weird, because my internets at 15mb on my wifi. It runs like perfectly perfectly. I use it everyday and haven't seen it stutter once.

It is meeting my needs, with my class reading material, apps, and much. I still have over 10GB of free space.

This may be obvious, but it mainly boils down to these:
  1. Do you need to sync lots of music?
  2. Do you need to store and watch several video offline (e.g., travel)?
  3. Do you like to store lots of photos (e.g., show portfolio to clients)?
  4. Do you use Camera Connection Kit to transfer photos?
  5. Do you take lots of photos or more importantly, video?
  6. Do you read many iTextbooks, magazine subscriptions, or comic books?
  7. Do you play many media rich games?

If you answer yes to few of the followings, then you will need 32 GB (or even 64 GB).

Yes to all seven, which is why I went for the 64....and had hoped for a 128gb. Apart from that, I'm very pleased with my new device.

With iTunes match and wifi sync, it's easier than ever to deal with having a 16gb, I'd need the 3G though.

Factor in a Dropbox account and iCloud and I could probably manage...

I'm on the fence too.. I don't store any music or video locally so it's only apps and games..but I might record instruments and shoot video. Garageband alone is 1 GB and iMovie 500 MB.. and that's before recording anything..

Only half a day but 7.3gb free on my new ipad 16gb Wi-Fi... Fingers crossed i don't change my mind in 13 days.

I had no choice with responsibilities and bills but to buy the 16GB New iPad yesterday. I am in love with it despite the small capacity! I just have to be more choosy in which huge apps to download and I'm not downloading apps, I know I will rarely play. It forces me to keep the apps that I WILL make the most of which is not a bad thing. When I upgrade to the 32GB version in a few months, I will feel more freedom sure but at least now, I won't have any basically useless apps or apps I don't really play or will even finish taking up space.

I feel VERY blessed to even own the iPad 3, so 16GB is fine with me!! :)

Honestly, I had a 32 GB, and even that was enough. I had to return it and get 64. But I keep 400 photos, 3 movies, and 90 apps on my iPad. If you're going to be using it for a few apps, maybe one movie, and a few photos, it'll work for you. If you feel like it may be tight, I'd suggest going for a 32.
