If you constantly do FCP projects on internal drive, yes, you got the point. But even then, carrying constantly around terabytes of data (unless backed up, let me guess, on a portable drive or NAS system), is inherently risky due to possibility of losing the computer itself, breaking SSD (which rarely but happens), file corruption, risk of breaking the notebook itself etc. If your work is in video, then even 4TB or 8TB might be not enough, which again leads to need for a portable storage but anyway YMMVTo each their own. Whenever I skimp on SSD, I find myself constantly moving FCP projects back and forth between external and internal SSD because I keep running out of space. But that's just the nature of my work.
So I finally maxed out my current MBP (and my wife got a really nice, slightly used, M1 Max with 4TB). I haven't regretted it (and she finally stopped complaining about Intel-MBP fan noise...ha ha).
That said...I have a heck of a time trying to max out my CPU or GPU. I can't get Final Cut Pro nor Compressor to use the full M2 Max (or even close). And I still, almost inexplicably, get hiccups and beach balls.
So at this point, I'm not sure if I'll ever notice the difference with an M3...at least until the software that I use better utilizes the hardware. In the meantime...for many workflows, there's a diminishing return with each new generation (since the M1 leap).
They have the M4 M5 and M6 already in various stages of completion. They likely plan to release a system based on the M4 in 12-18 months.
I commend you! I think there’s a lot of folks still having difficulty handling thisI had an aging Mac Pro before my Studio. Honestly, my brain just hadn't accounted or adjusted for the fact you can get high end desktop or workstation performance in a laptop. I'd always had a 'big powerful computer' at home on my desk because it was so much more powerful than a laptop. So that's what I was looking to replace and I waited faithfully for a suitable model to be released before I upgraded. It was only after living with it for a while that I realised that a Max model would have been more than enough performance for my needs and I could have had the benefit of occasional portability!
Speculation that ‘Apple plans to continue to release new Macs with new processors in the future”? While I do believe that there will come a time when the last Mac rolls off the assembly line, it won’t be in the next 12-18 months. This is speculation.
What we know right now is these new MacBook Pros and iMacs are the best ever products in their category. The best chips, the best software, the best ecosystem, and the best support.
I couldn’t be more thrilled with these announcements.
Taking Germany as the largest European market:I’m ready to pull the trigger (8'500 eur here in Europe 😏 that’s like 15% more expensive for no reason - VAT?)
Since it's not attached to an Nvidia GPU, around three fiddy. One caveat is that you can't get a laptop with a 124GB (ish) video graphics. I don't think you can get a desktop GPU at that either. How much is it worth to you? That will but up to the purchaser.
I'm suspicious for a while now reading your comments, is it you, Tim Apple? It's quite expensive, but also remember this spec is the best and most powerful MacBook Pro Apple has ever made. It's hard to imagine Apple introducing a new high-end chip anytime soon that can surpass this awe-inspiring performance.
This literally is the best laptop anyone has ever made. And obviously this level of amazing performance is going to cost a few bucks.
Perfectly put, the prices are going up so much for the Mac that it's just not justifiable. With all the Apple silicon it was expected to come down as the processor would be made in-house but instead, it jumped through the charts. Now the only affordable are airs, but with limited ports and very limited power, it's just not justifiable either. No thank you!
At this point getting a MacBook Pro seems pointless unless I had the money to burn and/or I really really really needed to run a specific exclusive program. Otherwise the money is best put towards building a PC. If I ever get a Mac again it’ll need to be an Air but even that I am struggling to justify.
Highly, highly doubt this.I suspect we wont see any improvement in benchmarks compared to the M2 Pro.
Given they've gutted the Pro chips with less P-cores, it's not that unlikely outcome.Highly, highly doubt this.
Trade-in values become comic. I just worked out that I'd have to pay £3,919 for 32GB more RAM, 4 more CPU cores and 2 more GPU cores. And trade in value plummeted too, my one month old $4000 M2 max is only wrth $1500
Good comparison, even though this product is not exactly comparable, the pricing gives an idea. This is also what Steve’s said long time ago that when compared to same specs they are not that much more, so repetitive each time to hear people (that might not even be the target group) complaining about pro pricing. That is much cheaper than a maxed out Dell Precision 7780, which costs $13,366.47. I just tried it out:
