About $4K poorer on the 1TB/48GB M3 Max. On the flip side, buying a new stand, mouse, keyboard, hub, cables and an Eastern European bride to carry my stuff around only cost me a few hundred...🥳

Who is buying which Mac and how will they be using it? I'll start: to be honest, I am partially wrapped up in the Apple marketing and drawn to the new colour option. I purchased my M1 MacBook Air in response to requiring a laptop after accidentally wiping my MacBook Pro off coffee table upon waking. (Repair cost in excess of replacement to a Silicon MBA). The MBA is great, light and powerful enough for most and I have to little to complain in regards to this Mac. I do understand the technical specification increases are significant and am future proofing / guaranteeing TV streaming experience is smooth without buffering. I have found essentially having only one free USB C / Thunderbolt after the power USB C cord is plugged in, restrictive. The additional ports built into the MBP have been useful with three Thunderbolt ports will save carriage, purchase and use of adapters and accessories when away from home. I have recently been using my iPad Air mobile version outside of home more like watching today's Apple event at _ _ _ _. Sometimes a computer is required for my utility uses away from home and only needing a USB C to USB C cord, USB C power adapter and cleaning cloth is all I will require. My theory is that it never hurts to have too much processor power as needs may change and it usually happens on a Sunday or late at night. So share your thoughts, please.

To each their own. Whenever I skimp on SSD, I find myself constantly moving FCP projects back and forth between external and internal SSD because I keep running out of space. But that's just the nature of my work.

So I finally maxed out my current MBP (and my wife got a really nice, slightly used, M1 Max with 4TB). I haven't regretted it (and she finally stopped complaining about Intel-MBP fan noise...ha ha).

That said...I have a heck of a time trying to max out my CPU or GPU. I can't get Final Cut Pro nor Compressor to use the full M2 Max (or even close). And I still, almost inexplicably, get hiccups and beach balls.

So at this point, I'm not sure if I'll ever notice the difference with an M3...at least until the software that I use better utilizes the hardware. In the meantime...for many workflows, there's a diminishing return with each new generation (since the M1 leap).
If you constantly do FCP projects on internal drive, yes, you got the point. But even then, carrying constantly around terabytes of data (unless backed up, let me guess, on a portable drive or NAS system), is inherently risky due to possibility of losing the computer itself, breaking SSD (which rarely but happens), file corruption, risk of breaking the notebook itself etc. If your work is in video, then even 4TB or 8TB might be not enough, which again leads to need for a portable storage but anyway YMMV

They have the M4 M5 and M6 already in various stages of completion. They likely plan to release a system based on the M4 in 12-18 months.

This is speculation.

What we know right now is these new MacBook Pros and iMacs are the best ever products in their category. The best chips, the best software, the best ecosystem, and the best support.

I couldn’t be more thrilled with these announcements.

And here I thought maybe I'll trade up from a recently purchased M2 Max... yeah right.. trade-in value is roughly 30% of what it cost just a few short (okay 5) months ago

I had an aging Mac Pro before my Studio. Honestly, my brain just hadn't accounted or adjusted for the fact you can get high end desktop or workstation performance in a laptop. I'd always had a 'big powerful computer' at home on my desk because it was so much more powerful than a laptop. So that's what I was looking to replace and I waited faithfully for a suitable model to be released before I upgraded. It was only after living with it for a while that I realised that a Max model would have been more than enough performance for my needs and I could have had the benefit of occasional portability!
I commend you! I think there’s a lot of folks still having difficulty handling this :) What Apple is making possible in a portable form factor… it’s not that Intel and AMD CAN’T do it, it’s that they won’t do it. Because, providing that level of performance in a mobile solution will make their non-mobile chips a harder sell. We’ll never see AMD or Intel’s lowest end offering in a generation ever coming near the single core score of their high end. Ever.

Speculation that ‘Apple plans to continue to release new Macs with new processors in the future”? While I do believe that there will come a time when the last Mac rolls off the assembly line, it won’t be in the next 12-18 months. :)

No thank you!

At this point getting a MacBook Pro seems pointless unless I had the money to burn and/or I really really really needed to run a specific exclusive program. Otherwise the money is best put towards building a PC. If I ever get a Mac again it’ll need to be an Air but even that I am struggling to justify.

I’m ready to pull the trigger (8'500 eur here in Europe 😏 that’s like 15% more expensive for no reason - VAT?)
Taking Germany as the largest European market:
€8529 / 1.19 * ($1.0607 / €1) / $7199 = 105.6%

So yeah, net of VAT, it’s 5.6% more expensive in Germany than the U.S.

Much less than I expected. I remember it used to be about 10% „Euro surcharge“ with Apple for years. Not sure though if they’re just looking out for inflation-plagued Europeans, or if it‘s due to a cap (?) in copyright, recycling and other fees on these high-end notebooks.

Keep in mind that there’s a 2-year statutory warranty in Europe as well.

This is a huge increase in price from the previous top-end.

The top tier m1max cost 3.3 Lakhs in India,
Now the top tier is 4 Lakhs.

This is terrible!

In Europe there are laws brewing that will force companies like Apple to make their devices more repairable and user upgradable to try to increase their useful life and reduce e-waste. The likely effect of this legislation will be that things such as RAM and SSD will have to be socketed. Maybe even the processor. There are downsides to this but one upside is that it will prevent this sort of crazy pricing by allowing users to upgrade using third party products, improving competition. Wonder what Apple will do? Dramatically increase the base price?

It's quite expensive, but also remember this spec is the best and most powerful MacBook Pro Apple has ever made. It's hard to imagine Apple introducing a new high-end chip anytime soon that can surpass this awe-inspiring performance.

This literally is the best laptop anyone has ever made. And obviously this level of amazing performance is going to cost a few bucks.
I'm suspicious for a while now reading your comments, is it you, Tim Apple?

Perfectly put, the prices are going up so much for the Mac that it's just not justifiable. With all the Apple silicon it was expected to come down as the processor would be made in-house but instead, it jumped through the charts. Now the only affordable are airs, but with limited ports and very limited power, it's just not justifiable either.

And trade in value plummeted too, my one month old $4000 M2 max is only wrth $1500
Trade-in values become comic. I just worked out that I'd have to pay £3,919 for 32GB more RAM, 4 more CPU cores and 2 more GPU cores.

That is much cheaper than a maxed out Dell Precision 7780, which costs $13,366.47. I just tried it out:
Good comparison, even though this product is not exactly comparable, the pricing gives an idea. This is also what Steve’s said long time ago that when compared to same specs they are not that much more, so repetitive each time to hear people (that might not even be the target group) complaining about pro pricing.
one can say compared to this dell the ssd pricing is way higher, but only for the lower the 1TB or less. the 4tb upgrade is similarly priced, they don’t offer 8tb only another ssd.

Yeh, you can buy a solid gold toilet too… Doesn’t mean toilets cost a million. Just do the 1-2tb ssd and call it a day.

8tb is for special interest 8k editing-on-the-field type situations imho. And even then you can run external ssd’s.

I would say that M3 is the sweetspot for me, Apple Silicon reaching feature parity with Win boxes with Nvidia cards is huge. As in not outrageously bad rendering times for 3d gfx, good real time Unreal Engine performance etc.

This is the one to buy, no more reason to sit on x86 machines.
