16-Inch MacBook Pro Now Available With Up to 75% Faster Radeon Pro 5600M Graphics

One week ahead of WWDC, Apple has released a new high-end graphics option for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. For an extra $700, the notebook can now be configured with AMD Radeon Pro 5600M graphics with 8GB of HBM2 memory.

Apple says the new 5600M graphics option is up to 75 percent faster than the base 5500M graphics for the 16-inch MacBook Pro, according to TechCrunch.

Apple has also released user-installable SSD storage kits for the latest Mac Pro, with 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB capacities available.

My rule of thumb: Always order the slowest CPU und the slowest graphics card, if you want a quiet laptop.

But you never have too much RAM or too much SSD space and should get as much as you can afford.

See the 5600. Don’t see the ssd kit. And the site still says not user accessible so “consider upgrading at time of purchase”

Depends on if the speed increase was due to a process shrink or not. I get what you mean about battery life though. My 2017 15” MBP gets just over 3 hours on battery if the dGPU is active.

Who cares about 10th Gen?!? It’s hardly worth the trouble and expense at this point.

I would rather Apple skip 10th Gen and introduce a Tiger Lake H-Series model as soon as those are available to OEMs.

Which means it isn’t a trivial purchase/BTO option for most users here who are already complaining. The 8GB 5500M is almost a no-brainer buy at this point, but there’s going to have to be some significant gains in relevant apps to make a $700-$800 BTO option relevant for 90% of users.
