I just checked and those files are on path: /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/MacHardwareTypes-2019f.bundle/Contents/Resources/

There you can find 2 images:

com.apple.macbookpro-16-silver.icns
com.apple.macbookpro-16-space-grey.icns

As these are probably placeholder images for the new machine, those images look like the actual 15" MacBook Pro.
If there's an equivalent thumbnail for the 15" model can you compare to see if this is the same, being used as placeholder or if it is indeed subtly different?

Says could be faked, but that doesn’t make sense. Couldn’t Mac rumors or anyone simply verify of the file(s) actually exist in the betas? Or did someone say they exist and macrumors didn’t want to find out they don’t so instead just published before verifying for ad clicks?

This is simply not true.

The 16 in the metadata isn't about display size. "MacBookPro16,1" is the new 15". Similar to iPhone internal model numbers (i.e. iPhone 6s is "iPhone8,1")

While it may or may not be true, it does in fact show smaller bezels, so either the image isn't to size, it could in fact be the 16 inch version or it might be an updated 15 inch version.

Found it on my Catalina as well, model number is MacBookPro16,1. As mentioned above, it does not mean that this is the 16" model, but it does suggest that something is incoming.

Or maybe someone at Apple is trolling us :)

I skipped the 2019 8-core 15" because of rumors about this 16".They need to hurry up and release it because I've been hobbling along on a late 2013 and I need an upgrade and more ram.

Apple isn’t going to host an event.

This is an iterative update. Tim Cook doesn’t need to spend 60 minutes on stage to explain it has a larger display.
Right. The products are in a place where
  • iPad Pro is a fresh new design which probably would only get a spec bump
  • MacBook Air/Pro may get a spec bump but a new keyboard would be a stretch
  • AppleTV is a mature product that would probably only get a new processor
Could Apple do a keynote for all that? Maybe?

IHS Markit analyst Jeff Lin believes the 16-inch ?MacBook Pro? will feature a 3,072×1,920 resolution and be powered by Intel's 9th-generation Coffee Lake Refresh processors, suggesting the notebook will be configurable with up to an 8-core Core i9 processor in line with the latest 15-inch ?MacBook Pro?.

Wait....so the new 16" macbook pro will have a LOWER resolution than the 15"? WTF

I hope so. As it looks exactly the same as the current 15" MBP with the same bezels

Is the iPad spec bump going to make a big difference? Is it worth waiting for?
