I got my Apple Card, locked and loading for a new Macbook Pro 16in for this Christmas :). My 2009 Mac Pro Tower died a couple of months ago so i need a Mac for my home and office. Was thinking about the $7000 new Mac Pro but it would not be utilized just setting at home. So I made a decision to get a $4000 Macbook Pro and upgrade every 5 years to keep current with technology changes. Going to get a Razer eGPU box, i have a Vega 64 card i got for the old Mac pro when it died so, i will running in the external EGPU box for hot graphics performance and then replace my graphics card in a year or two with the latest and greatest AMD video card on the market in the future.

Apple isn’t going to host an event.

This is an iterative update. Tim Cook doesn’t need to spend 60 minutes on stage to explain it has a larger display.
Yeah if there's no significant new features for them to run through on stage I tend to agree this is a slight enough change to just go out with a press release.

Right. The products are in a place where
  • iPad Pro is a fresh new design which probably would only get a spec bump
  • MacBook Air/Pro may get a spec bump but a new keyboard would be a stretch
  • AppleTV is a mature product that would probably only get a new processor
Could Apple do a keynote for all that? Maybe?

I would still expect a paper launch for all those products. At best, iPad Pro will get the camera from iPhone, so it’s a recap of Night Mode and Deep Fusion. MacBook Pro may have a new keyboard, but scissor is a regression and I would not expect Apple to make any mention of it.

I don't think these are place holder images. If you go to the link in the article to the source website, there is a side-by-side comparison of the 2. You can clearly see there is a difference between models in their bezels.

Further, if you look at the keyboards... it looks like the 16 inch one doesn't have a Touch Bar. Look at the side by side image on the top row of keys where it is flat and smooth in the 15 inch, and the 16 inch looks like keys. Or at least, it looks like there is an escape key separate from the Touch Bar as well as a separate Power Button.

Agreed. I also think if they keyboard design and slighly thinner bezels are the only hcanges they won't have an event. They will never admit the old keyboard design was a disaster, therefore they won't have an event saying 'look, new keyboards better than old ones!!'

Been waiting for this for the last 10 months, but no, I won't pay a 50% price premium for 0,0002 millimeter narrower bezels and a last decade keyboard technology.

I hope there's more in store to it...

Agreed. If thats what it acutally looks like I'll buy the existing 15"!

Real pros in A/V, scientific research like oncology, and publishing care about slim bezels and novelty. Bling and zing.

Wow I hope not...this looks identical to the 15” with slightly reduced bezels. What are they going to offer? Slightly reduced bezels plus a keyboard that doesn’t break from dust?

Why the heck are some people expecting rounded corners and bezels?

MacBook Pro is an actual work machine. Rounded corners would decrease the display area.

This is not a Jony Ive product where design comes first. This product needs to cool down 96W of heat and is intended for work.

I think it's funny that they still use the Tiger wallpaper for the mac display. Almost 14 years later, and what's really funny is that image of the machine was only introduced in Lion, 6 years after Tiger.

I skipped the 2019 8-core 15" because of rumors about this 16".They need to hurry up and release it because I've been hobbling along on a late 2013 and I need an upgrade and more ram.

I sold my Late 2013 model end of 2018. Been looking at getting a laptop again with this new 16" being a possible choice but if the bezels are going to have no noticeable difference then that's going to be annoying.

My guess is that they will throw in also 802.11AX WIFI 6 network performance. So this would be the second Apple product to have 802.11AX WIFI 6 radio's in it. The first was the new IPhone 11 phones. :)

When I worked for GM/EDS I installed the very first WIFI network technology with PCMCIA cards and it ran a whopping 1 mbps lol. Now we are at 10 gbps.

Besides the screen size and keyboard, I wonder if they'll differentiate this in any way. I sold my last MBP - a 2016 13" - and am in the market.
