You complain about butterfly keyboard?

Maybe the next 16” will come with no HW keyboard but only SW option ...just like typing on an iPad’s glass ;)

As USB-C is finally starting to catch on all USB-C ports will be removed and replaced by a new proprietary port.
It will only support charging via airpower. Airpower charger will be an additional extra.
The keyboard will be replaced by a touchscreen.
To accelerate complete iCloud integration it only comes with 64GB hdd, non-upgradeable.
Jony Ive will say it's the most beautiful MacBook ever made.

Whatttttt!

I’ve had every iteration of 15” MBP and I was desperately hoping to sit out any refresh this year as I’m really happy with the 2018.

But, I do long for a bigger display and didn’t see this coming. Will be VERY hard to resist!
So you bought the 2016 Touch Bar model ? What did you think of that and how much did you get when you sold it ?

The one thing that would make me consider buying one when I get a new Apple computer, I know there is almost none chance it will happen. I want to be able to easily or at least relatively easily, be able to replace the drive, ram and clean and replace the thermal paste where it is needed. I don't want to computer to become and overheated pile of garbage in a few years JUST because of otherwise easily fixable issues.

I waited, waited and waited for a new 17" until I could wait no more as my 2009 became so slow. I finally spent £2700 on a New 15" touch bar fro Christmas and then this news comes along. Oh well, Gumtree it will be for my old 15" ( 8 Weeks ) as soon as this comes out ......... if it does.

Yeeeeeessss, let it come - fast fast fast.
I want NO keyboard issues, no screen hinges/cables issues, no battery issues.
32GB/4TB, 4+ heavy duty and some low power cores for travel use.
16+" screen sounds like a wonderful treat for the aging Mac user...
Max 7.5k$ and I buy today...
And yes, please don't toss out touch ID.

and let it run on two A14 processors :)))

The obvious thing here is keeping the casing the same as the 15.4” MBP and having near zero bezel. Sounds great, but what I want is a 14” MBP with some kind of dGPU. Even something as meager as the MX150.

That and a keyboard that isn’t going to crap out from some dust particles in a year.

It can start at $4000 for all that matters; it should have MagSafe, SD-card slot, 2 USB type A housing for the USB-C ports, two regular full featured USB-C ports, HDMI and an audio-jack.

And, no bloody Touch Bar!

MagSafe? Don't get your hopes up. MagSafe is dead.

SD-slot? Maaaaybe. HDMI? No.

USB-A? I think that ship has sailed. On a 16.5", I see a small possibility for 2 USB-A ports besides 4x Thunderbolt 3, since iMac Pro and Mac mini have also retained some USB-A. But not very likely.

I expect 4 or 6 Thunderbolt 3 ports, headphone jack, maaaaybe SD.

Thinking Apple would back up from the current MBP's philosophy is illusionary. Expect what the current MBP's are, translated into a larger form factor. Touch Bar, absolutely expect it! Albeit maaaybe optional.

I decided to be more pragmatic with my laptop choice, which is why I have a Dell precision not a new MBP, but a new MBP sure will be tempting....

Interesting tidbit of information/rumor. I agree with some of the other posters regarding the price, though I don't think the base price will be 4k, it certainly will be much higher then what apple is charging now.

Other questions that will remain unanswered are the use of the butterfly keyboard, touchbar, and internally will they use the same ribbon cable that is seemingly affecting some (many?) owners of the 2016 MBP, i.e., flexgate.

I opted for the Thinkpad X1E myself, though this rumor does little to tempt me in all honesty. My divorce from Macintoshs is complete and I cannot see myself going back.

The lightest and thinnest ever, only 2.5 pounds.
Noooooooo......... Not that again.

All new design...

Unless it has PROPER ports (and multiple ports at that), a keyboard that doesn’t need a condom to work properly, a matte screen, proper heat thermals & actual function keys then they can call it whatever they want to but it certainly won’t be a pro machine or anything close to what true pros want or need.
Looks like the days of practical and reliable Macs are long gone.

Not a touchscreen as such, but the glass screen with bumps and haptic. Because they can't make a reliable keyboard anymore, so the hell with it. Touch bar all the way.

I really expected the next redesign to coincide with the rumored move to ARM processors in 2020 or 2021. If they stick with Intel for this one, it's quite possible based on current information that there will be no significant CPU upgrade released during this calendar year that is suitable for MBP. If this rumor has any truth to it, then I'd be shocked if the actual product is available this year. Maybe a Q4 announcement.

Knowing modern Apple they have a long term goal for the touch bar. This is only the first iteration. I would guess it is full touch keyboard/interface with haptic that changes depending what you are doing, in line with the recent rumours we have been hearing.

We may see Apple make a concession by including an SD card slot. Or maybe not.

We might see it adopt some more design cues from the iPad as well. I doubt we will see Face ID (screen just isn’t thick enough).

Everything else likely shouldn’t change too much from the current MBP design. I don’t really see Apple walking back on their current design choices. Love it or hate it, it’s here to stay.

Manufactures have tried all LCD keyboards before and they've never really caught on, I don't think Apple will be able to change that to be honest as people like to actually press keys', not fake ones.

Won't stop Apple from trying, IMO.

Look, I have no leg in this game. I am happily using my iPad Pro (which ironically has a better keyboard that at least doesn't jam should crumbs drop on it), and I don't see myself getting a MBP anytime soon. I just think that looking at Apple's track record, listing out a laundry list of features you know Apple very well isn't going to offer, is just setting yourself up for a ton of disappointment when said product does get unveiled, and you end up with none of the features on your wish list.

I could be wrong. For all we know, Apple does end up going back to the older MBP design with some incremental improvements, but the Apple I know doesn't look back when it comes to this sort of thing. They just move on, mistakes and all, and bank on their user base sticking around until they either finally get it right, or move beyond that to the next big thing.

Awesome get ready for a new $4000 paperweight that will still get dusted by a $1200 rtx powered windows laptop... I used to be all for the Apple tax but now it's just getting ridiculous. If it had competitive hardware I would throw money at apple.... But they don't and they laugh at their customers and that's just bad business to me.

Been saying it for a long time, would've been [will be?] an interesting differentiator in the mid-sized market, and with a new screen design, give us more display area in the same chassis size ...

October 2013

Of course, we'll have to wait and see final configuration(s), price, etc., but this sounds good, there really shouldn't be a non-"retina" display in the lineup.

You know, I've said for some time, not only would I like a resolution bump, but for the Pro models to move to a set of new, unique sizes: 14" and 16", with super small bezels, I bet there's quite a few buyers for a machine with the display area (way more resolution) of our dearly departed MBP 17" :)

The next models just need this in the configurator, so it's totally independent from the other specs:

[x] Standard Function Keys
[ ] Touchbar (+$)

So I can have a top spec CPU, 32GB RAM, with a moderate GPU, and a completely physical keyboard. That doesn't even require any pipe-dream engineering we know Apple won't engage in (ex: nVidia, user replacement RAM and/or storage ...), just get a keyboard from that stack vs. this other stack when you're assembling :D

Wow, that is something, I was doubting this would ever happen. But if Apple plans to release such a laptop, it would make sense to do so before the latest 17-inch MacBook Pro becomes obsolete. Let us see what the prices are; I sometimes have the impression that Apple is trying to price Macs out of the market to compel people to buy iPads instead...

In any case, I think Apple is giving too many controversial messages to the customers. It is somewhat lacking leadership in product development, as it releases so many different products competing between themselves (while too focused on optimizing the supply chain). A cluttered line-up of products was one of the reasons why Apple almost went bankrupt in the past. I hope they can avoid the same mistakes this time.
