I went 32GB. 16GB is too small IMO my iPod touch is 16GB and it feels to limiting. 64GB is overkill for me.

Having played with my brother's iPad (I really love it, but no Flash support could be a problem for some web sites), I'd probably go with 32 GB if the media you load is mostly text and some music.

I went for the 16GB.

Will always have my iPhone/iPod with me for a huge music collection (might put a few gig on the iPad including podcasts),

I tend to use <10 apps at any given time so space for apps isn't a big deal (~1GB),

Might sync a few TV shows, but since I'll use it at home much of the time I'll stream most of it over wifi from my mac (~3GB),

And, last but not least, a lot of decent res photos (~1GB).

Total = 8GB. Plenty of room for expansion and to add a movie here or there. I also figure if I find this isn't enough space after a year with the iPad, I'll sell and get a bigger 2nd gen.

Same here. I never have more than a couple gigs of music at once, and rarely if ever will I watch full length movies on it. I fit a lot of TV episodes on my iPhone so most of the 16GB will be Apps.

I pre-ordered the 32GB 3G. I have a 32GB iPhone 3GS, and can't come close to filling it. It's only half full right now, and that's with 6GB of music I wouldn't sync to my iPad.

Sync-ing is the key to this. The decision has to be based on how much (and what) you need to carry with you at any one time between syncs.

I'm planning to go for the 64gb wifi. If I require wifi access outside of wifi hotspots then i will tether to my iphone.

Ordered this morning, went for the 64GB 3G. Got a 16GB iPhone which is literally completely full, won't even let me take a photo, so I don't wanna end up with the same problem on my iPad. :p

16gb wifi only.

Air video for 500+ movies & tv shows. (3tb) (Streamed)
Dropbox for documents, pictures, music, home videos, pdf files. (Streamed)
Mobileme for pictures/home movies from my gallery.

Currently using about 1.5gb (Apps)

I have about 12-13gb free.

Is 2010 get with the cloud already.

If needed when traveling ill sync 3-4 movies.

Why would anybody want their entire collection on it is beyond me but to each its own.

Even if I wanted to I couldn't hold my digital life on any current size anways.
So it was pointless to pay more for storage that would still be short.

I see many people mentioning go big because of movies. How many times do people really watch movies on a portable device on a daily basis? What is the point of walking around with 20GB worth of video and movies when you really never watch them on the go? I go to college, go home, work part-time, have hobbies and hang out with my friends and family. I don't see where I have much time to watch a 2 hour movie on the go. Watching The Dark Knight and having 15 different movies on an iPad seems pointless for most. I will put on some episodes of TV shows that I have not watched yet so I can watch them on the train. However those are consumed quickly and then deleted because I know longer need them. I can only see people who travel regularly needing to carry around movies with them. At home all video for me will be streamed. Also music will not be a big thing on the iPad as it really does not make much sense on such a device. That is space freed up for other things.

Good point, but this is the kind of post we'll look back on in 5-10 years and laugh about.

When our iPad's have a 64 TB drive and/or a constant ultra high speed link to the cloud server, we will all have a veritable Library of Alexandria at our beck and call at any time. You can already see a glimpse of this in people's massive music libraries on their iPods today.

Yes but no one will be walking around with tonnes of video stored on their device. Cloud computing is different. Also music is consumed rapidly and people listen a variety of different songs during the day. Listening to music can be done while walking, talking, driving, sleeping (yes sleeping), and in many situations. Having lots of music makes sense. Video (movies) requires much more attention and is much longer than most songs. Even with thousands of movies at our call with cloud computing I doubt many people will have daily situations in which they have time to watch them on the go.

I know some movie fans who would disagree with you...

I would have never believed anyone needed to own 1,500 DVD's, but I have seen such collections with my own eyes. I ask myself how often can these people watch these movies, but apparently they like to refer to them like other people refer to reference books, checking out the details of a particular scene. And when those 1,500 movies take up only a quarter of the drive space on your iPad, I can imagine more and more people will choose to enjoy that luxury.

Every episode of every TV series from the 90's anyone?

This is a good point - for the distant future. For now, none of the available iPad models will get you anywhere near this. The question isn't if you want no video(16gb) /a little video(32gb) /all the video you could ever need (64gb). The question is more like, do you want to walk around with, say, 5 or 6 hours of video (16gb) / 20 hours of video (32gb) / 50 hours of video (64gb).

If there were a 256gb iPad available, I'd probably get that, because it is conceptually elegant to have your whole library with you, and 256gb would probably do that for me since I haven't ripped a ton of movies.

I'd settle for external USB drive support so I can carry around a WD Passport drive with all my stuff...

I went with 32gb -- 16 gb really is 13gb when you count the OS, and I like to have a few movies, my favorite albums and some good apps -- for me, 13gb was cutting it a little close. 64gb woulda been too much (my 24" iMac is my primary computer still and it serves as my main hd to store everything). 32gb seems just right

64GB is the way to go....

BTW the Video portion is with 7 movies loaded.

I'll get more next time

Sold. I'm getting a 64Gb.

Better update your sig then! :)

I am a happy owner of a 16G WiFi only model, delivered on launch day.

I've had second (and third) thoughts about whether 16G is enough. For now though, it's OK. I'd prefer more - but being connected through WiFi means being able to watch NetFlix and StreamToMe content, so it's not horrible. If I traveled more, I'd most certainly go with at least 32 or 64G.

Also in consideration is knowing that almost for sure the second generation product will be better, and I'll probably upgrade to that, and when I do, it'll probably be at least to 32 if not 64G.

I just preordered a 16G 3G. I own the first-gen iPhone since 2007. The 8G flash is more than enough for me, with a couple of movies loaded occasionally.

29.22gb of audio. You don't own an iPod?

Yes I do, and I carry that when I don't want to carry the iPad around.

Keep in mind I look at the iPad as being the perfect companion for travel. So the way I filled it up so far for the screen capture is for road trips/travel.

And will decide next month as to whether I will stay with the iPhone (and maybe upgrade to the iPhone HD as it seems to being called) relieving some of the strain on music storage on the iPad.
