The precise fact that they did say it would be a big deal to come watch and that they said they will take a hit in profits makes me think they do have something. I know what others are saying that it could just be Apple working the news media for something small but they will look like morons if they don't produce now.

It seems that nothing is happening to the Classic.

Not so. Crunchgear is reporting Apple will announce a 120GB model to replace the 80GB model. The 160GB will remain since that is the largest drive for the form factor.

it's sad that most of you guys don't notice how apple is fooling you - they put SJ on a CA stage, and you go crazy- while in fact all they want to do is get the student rebate that is ending next monday and make you get the "new" (lol) nano with an OLD laptop (which they are then going to upgrade later, post-15, so that they get rid of all the laptops in stock).

therefore: cosmetic changes to the ipods, you'll buy it, 20% of you will get it for "Free" buy getting a laptop (or apple's squeezing out the last students going back to school to get an apple), and then there'll be new laptops post-15. this even is bogus, BS, marketing, NOT innovation.

Who cares about the classic. Get rid of it and replace it with iPod touch with hard drive. :D

The iPod saved Apple, so quit bitching about Apple forgetting that they make computers...

If they didn't stray from computers to make iPods and now the iPhone there wouldn't be nearly as many Mac users. And Macs wouldn't be the #1 computer in higher ed.

That having been said, there will be something in this keynote that blows us away. Either that or all the stuff we heard about Apple saying it's "A big deal, be there" is bull.

DISAPPOINTMENT - confirmed

come on. this is not a "big" event at all - cosmetic changes (to the worse, as t he nano's growing even). who but school kids care about a shuffle...

i guess i won't even check MR given this lame line-up of nothingness. it's a shame that the social dynamics of MR users (overenthusiastic, unrealistic and uncritical apple vasals) makes a big deal out of any small announcement.

wake me up when they upgrade their computers, please. let the kids get their old ipods in new colors in the mean time.

Yeah, we know but we don't care. I just want my new iPod touch and the upcoming notebook.

Looks like you fooled yourself. New iPods have never qualified for the free rebate.

will these new nanos, etc. come out today? I know Apple usually starts selling the stuff they refresh on the same day they show it. I hope so, I need a new iPod.

Obviously you are the type that thinks they are the smartest person in the room. Personally I think your observations are way off base. Apple isn't fooling anyone here.

1) A free Touch on top of EDU pricing is nothing to sneeze at. Even if you don't need it you can eBay it for $.

2) Students that need a computer now, need a computer now, not in a month or whenever Apple decides to ship new models.

3) If, as you say, the new models will be "BS, marketing, NOT innovation," then what is the point of waiting for the new models? Your logic is flawed when you chastise people for being "duped" into buying the current model when new ones are so near.

4) I think everyone here recognizes that Apple is a COMPANY, and as such its primary goal is to sell product and services to make money.

5) Technology typically is EVOLUTIONARY, not REVOLUTIONARY. Pick a tech product, any product, a TV, a radio, a computer, etc. The second gen is similar to the first gen, but the third gen pulls away from the first even as its similar to the 2nd. This cycle goes on and on. The first TV looks nothing like current TVs. Even the brightest among us cannot innovate as fast as you seem to demand.

New iPods released today WILL NOT be eligible for the back-to-school promotion. Apple will not alter the terms of the existing rebate (if you read the form it clearly lists the Apple model numbers that are eligible). Furthermore, take last year as an example. New iPods were released before the expiration of the 2007 back to school promotion and Apple clearly mentioned that those new iPods couldn't be used towards the promotion. They also reduced the price of the rebate.

will apple drop a bombshell...

....and introduce music rental services through iTunes as the 'one more thing' item perhaps??? Not that I'd ever want to rent my music, but perhaps others want to, and it makes business sense to offer it for those who want it, catering to all tastes, although I wouldn't know why you would want to rent music....:apple:

I'd like to see them drop the price of the 160 to $249 and just have one model of the Classic (in two colors).

iPod Touch storage increase??

I rarely post but seriously, if there is no increase of storage capacity in the Touch then no sale. I was absolutely planning on getting one today. We will have to wait and see but come on, storage is why I did not buy the first one.
