Isn't it too early for Apple to pull down all their stores? Or is 2.5-3 hours normal downtime for the shop during new lineup intro?
I did not pay attention on last few occasions.

Damn you last son of Krypton, you stole my prediction!Sorry if this has been mentioned before, as I didn't read through all of the posts; but what if this "big" announcement also contains the rumored "Beatles iPod" along with their entire catalog at the iTunes store? Has this been offered as a possibility? I haven't seen any rumors relating to this lately.
(anyone heard anymore when the student offer comes out... I've been waiting for four months for a new iMac (I have an old pc at the moment which is in the process of dying!)
Can someone tell me why, when I really don't want or need a new iPod I still get excited about the store going down?
Well if you are anything like me it could because you have some slim hope of another product being released.

Um...buy a Mac, get a free (old) ipod. This ends Sept 15. Have you been in a cave?
The stores going offline has become an integral part of the buildup and hype. I'm fairly certain that they shut the stores down 2 hours earlier than they need to, just to make everyone go crazy with anticipation. The maintenance itself can't possibly take more than a minute, I mean the new pages were probably finished a week ago, and uploading them will only take a few seconds.US Store DOWN!
Ahem.... its 2.5 hours to the event! Whats going on?
