APPLE. DOES. NOT. COMPETE. WITH. COMPETITORS. PRICE. POINTS. EVER. _EVER_.

if there is nothing else you learn today, it is that apple does not give a flying **** about the kindle fire, the android "whatever", etc. etc. etc., and what they are selling for. Apple cares that the products they make are superior, and sell.

how do people not understand this by now? the SAME EXACT THING is said around the time of EVERY product refresh, and they ALWAYS do the same thing.

they are not going to devalue their product by dumping a 150 dollar ipad jr. on the market, nor are they going to drop a brand new iPad 2 down below about 100 dollars off what they are now. if they do, i'll eat my shoe.

"$399 iPad 2 - 16 GB" This is still too high, we have to contend with the Kindle Fire, so something has to be at ~$200 - 250 - 299 price point.

Well said! Apple does not NEED to compete. The employees in the store are not even on commission. In fact most of them are so enthusiastic about Mac products, I swear some would work for free a night or 2.

I have a 16GB and I'm doing perfectly fine with it, with more than half of the available space left. I would want that option to remain, because I don't want to spend another 200 dollars or so on space that I don't need.

If they remove the 16g, they would replace it w 32g for the same price. $499

I don't use a lot of space either, do not store movies, music or a lot of photos. But the apps Are getting larger all the time.

I think they should keep 16gb but they should maybe lower the price on it a bit. We'll see what Apple does on the iPad 3 announcement (oops i just came thinking about the iPad 3, sorry folks) :D

Memory is so cheap when you look at the total price of the iPad. It is only a sales tool as they could put 128GB in every new iPad for very little.

Good point. That's why they should really spoil us w 32 64 128 and in honor of steve. Lol

Also I don't think I'll come close to filling up my 16g but I would not complain about 32 at all. Maybe I would load more stuff on it.

Quite the opposite! I'm a musician and carry 1200 jazz tunes on my iPad. In addition, I have about 100gb of music stored on iTunes Match. I read a lot and browse a lot and that doesn't take up much space. I have about two games and no movies, and I definitely believe I'm getting a lot more out of my iPad than most people ;-)

Very similar to me, the largest bar on my iPad is the music and music video stuff. I do have 3 or 4 games, but music occupies the Lions (oops) share of the space.

128? Yes please Apple.

well, it's not even about "not competing" or commission etc...
there is much more to marketing than just putting up ads, setting a price and trying to get people to 'bite' - you need to take a lot of things into consideration, like public perception, brand value and awareness, positioning in the market, etc. etc.. you think apple doesn't know they could put 32 gigs as the base model? of course they can. OR you can sell the 16 for a bit, then bump it up to the 32 (and swallow the .4 cents per unit cost increase, if at all) and now all of a sudden you have a lot more interest in the product because it's "better than the old one, and costs the same!" its a calculated decision to not put them up to 128 gigs etc. with the first release. they could have easily put 32 gig base model in the FIRST ipad but didn't, for this reason.

the other thing, is that apple dictates what YOU need, never the opposite of that. you don't get a bunch of people crying about wanting something "okay, they want this, so lets make it.." that's skating to the puck was, not skating to where the puck will be.

that's my problem too.. especially with the iCloud install option. i download a bunch of stuff to my 32GB iphone (and have plenty of space, even with music on it) but i get home to my iPad and its out of space cause everything installed there too!

but i never have music or movies on my iPad.. just the iphone, and even that is a pretty new thing, i kept my classic ipod for music until i started using spotify.
