Because Merom is not slated for release until Q4 06 - at least according to the latest news reports as of 1 week ago. Do you have more current, updated news that says otherwise? If so, please provide a link. Otherwsie, Intel has most recently stated Merom will be released in Q4 06. August is not Q4 06.
So yes, it would be feasible to see Merom Macs before 2007, but not much before...
