August 7, 2006 SF WWDC SteveNote Will Introduce Merom 17" MBP

Apple have a big conference in Aug 2006 and thats when Intel roll out their Merom cpu.

Do you not think it'll be then?
I hope this SteveNote will introduce second generation Intel MacBook Pro with Merom inside and first generation Intel Mac Pro Dual Core and Quad Core desktops.

~Shard~ Thinks Merom Macs won't ship until 2007. Why Shard? Apple gonna sit on 32-bit Yonahs all year long? I don't think so. :)

I'm sure they'll ship in Aug or at least make an announcment on the situation. Either way, i'm going to wait until then.

i hope they don't wait for merom. if want them to announce late this month that the 2.33 chip is what they wee waiting for. thy can introduce merom laptops later, i won't mind.

you know, this is actually a situation where i would appreciate forewarning. all i need to know is how long before a 17".

the 15" right now cannot meet my long term needs (apperently FW800 interface for the small expresscard slot is in the works, but there is also the issue of a specific larger card that i would like to use) and in the immediate sense is inadequate (screen real estate is a bit low for audio)

but i actually think that the 15 is the "just right" size. i mean portability wise. it's just that there are too many things that i find lacking in the current macbook pro to justify not waiting a month. but if i will be waiting until august, then i will simply buy right now and get the most out of the 15.

and no, technically right now i do not NEED a computer, but in all reality i do. but i need a computer i can keep for a while, i plan on putting 4000 dollars into this and i am 21 years old in college. i simply do not want to upgrade for a few years.

yes technology changes quickly, i am not asking that to stop, but i want to make an informed decision.

You are mistaken - Apple will roll out Intel's Conroe chip at WWDC, not Merom. This is why we will be seeing new PowerMacs at that time.

Because Merom is not slated for release until Q4 06 - at least according to the latest news reports as of 1 week ago. Do you have more current, updated news that says otherwise? If so, please provide a link. Otherwsie, Intel has most recently stated Merom will be released in Q4 06. August is not Q4 06.

So yes, it would be feasible to see Merom Macs before 2007, but not much before...

Well in that case i'll probably buy in July then. I'm hoping for at least a speed bump as new slightly faster chips will be out in may/june.

Where did you see that it was delayed until Q4 2006? Sites i have visted say Q3.

Here is one article from not even 2 weeks ago citing Q4, and here is another one from mid-February.

As I said above, if you have more recent articles which are to the contrary, please post them, I would like to know.

I stand corrected.

But on the bright side it looks like we might get a speed bump (according to one of them reports) in the next few months.

Yep - that's one of the benefits of Apple being an Intel shop now - us consumers will see more frequent and signficant updates than what we saw in the PPC world.

seriously...all you people who complain about the weight and/or size of th 17" powerbooks really need to go to the gym or somthing!!

ive had my 17"pb for ages now..and i use it at uni every single day, screw a 12" or 13".....we want POWER!!

oh ya...X1800 512 PLEASE!!! :)

YOU WANT POWER...
...My iBook has the same amount of power as you...
...yeah, its a 12" :p

Tell Apple if you want a 12/13" MBP

If you want Apple to make a smaller-screened MacBook Pro, tell them through their Feedback site ... they do look at aggregate responses and use them for marketing and product mix decisions.

great, now where is the ibook for the rest of us that arent rich beyond our wildest dreams.

meh, the MBP is a not so much expensive as it is a straight up investment. i figure i should make back at least $1000 before the end of the summer recording other people and finally having a rig i like to record myself with.

if having the comuter itself wont make you money, then yes, the macbook is unecessarily expensive.
