The worst.

Can I ask how the 17 Pro feels in the hand without a case compared to the 16 Pro? I am considering upgrading but on the fence.
To me with rather small hands it feels better in the hand. I don't know how different the weight distribution is, but it feels a bit lighter even though it's a few grams heavier. It's also grippier than the 16 Pro.

I think where the vapour chamber was they should have used what is there now, but the rest of the phone should have been manufactured with a more premium material….

Spending over £1000 on a phone made of Aluminium just does not cut it! Shame of penny pinching Timmy!

I hope you don’t have any MacBook with such a cheap material.

I for one think the iPhone 17 pro feels nicer in my hand than the 15/16 pros. Also in drop tests, the aluminium unibody absorbs most of the force and protects the glass.
And gone are the days of dirty looking glasses around the cameras.
So I could not care less about the tiny bit of titanium in a phone!

If you hit your car phone etc even after 5 minutes from your unbox it will get hit..so if its 8 hours or 8seconds time dont affects physics

If I recall there was a YouTuber who actually melted down (could have been Jerry) the iPhone titanium and they found the littlest amount of this material, which I’m surprised didn’t ruffle more feathers,

I mean your paying a premium as it’s advertised being made from this high grade material, but it was only a small %

Disappointing to see color chipping off. Think I will use it for a day without case and then will use it only with a clear case.

This is a stock image (can't take a photo of itself!) but this is my 6 year old white iPhone 11.

It's been caseless for around 3 years. Now, the other side of the phone is a different story (I'm upgrading because the screen is quite badly cracked after one too many drops) but the rear and sides are flawless.

I'll be replacing the screen with some cheap third-party kit once I get my new phone as I'd like to keep the 11 working as a backup.

If I were buying the Pro Max (or Pro I guess, but I never considered that) I'd get the silver - easy to get cases for unlike the two coloured ones. However, I'm going to get the base 17. I keep changing my mind which colour - Lavender looked really good in store (I like purple!) but the white and black are also under consideration. Not that it matters yet - nowhere near me has any in stock.

Timmy approved a 💩’y phone this year so that everyone will be 😡 and upgrade to the 18…that won’t be aluminum unibody….and you can tell Gurman you saw it here first😉…
PS - Sorry about your new phone…if you haven’t, I’d be getting a replacement!
Because Cook is the master mind behind the design, the material research and the OS development. Of course.
At least Gurman has a track record and some credibility.

The iPad Pro M4 and Macbook Pros cost about the same or more as 17P, and are also aluminium so really was a bonus to have stainless steel or titanium on the iPhone Pro’s. Good while it lasted.

What I am loving here in this thread so far:

  1. A days old iPhone's paint chipping away
  2. On an iPhone Apple designed no one asked for
  3. An iPhone Apple made thin (but bigggg) and put the worse battery in it while pricing it much higher than the base phone which is actually more powerful
  4. It was so absurd that they audaciously released a battery pack just for this iPhone
  5. ….and ..and people are still bought it
On top of that, people here are saying:

...Oh that's why I am not buying that colour...

So in a way:

Some are saying: .. it's your fault i.e the classic "you are holding it wrong".
Some: .. but it's gonna be in a case anyway.
Some: .. must be your fault, you would have done something to it.

Those people never said - Apple sold them a pathetic phone (and not just the software) :D
Is the base model actually more powerful? Honest question

I just got back from my local Apple Store (just made a threat about my impressions of all the new iPhones) and the rear of all the dark blue Pros were covered in very visible scratches. These would not come off with rubbing, or a micro fibre cloth. They looked shockingly bad. The black Airs were also covered in scratches that wouldn’t come off.

My titanium 15 pro max literally still looks brand new, never had a case or screen protector, but I’ve always kept it in a leather sleeve in transit.

It’s a lot more complicated and costly to manufacture a unibody from stainless steel or even worse titanium.

Why bring the MacBooks into the discussion? Do you put them in your pocket with your keyes or accidentally drop them?

Well yeah, lots of MacBooks get accidentally dropped… that’s why it’s called an accident.

I went to a Best Buy yesterday to check out the 17 Pro Max and they were also scratched and the scratches would not come off when rubbing. Even with a case, the camera area is still exposed and yes, as someone that carries their phone in their pocket with other things this is a concern of mine. My 15 Pro Max doesn't have any scratches on it.

I know how I get about scratches on new devices and I don't even want to cause myself any unnecessary annoyance with the 17 pro max.

It is just disappointing to see people try to explain why this isn't an issue. Perhaps this wasn't the best design choice for Apple - but these devices being scratched on day one is VERY concerning.
