$3000 is cheap. Am i insane? No, because this machine is intended for professional job. For 3 years of use, i can squeeze the profit of $120.000 out of it to make the products i sell. So it's cheap.

For u student who whines about this machine is being very expensive, heck! Its damn expensive for writing a school homeworks.

funny thing...the re-sellers here refused to comment on the many reports of the 9400/9600 issues on the unibody MBP 15".. when i asked them if there might be a problem on the 17" nvidia cards as well and that's why shipping might be delayed ?

BUT our in house engineer spoke to a friend of his at apple HQ se asia..and that guy verbally confirmed that they KNOW about this problem with the nvidia chips and are trying to find a solution and that's why the deliveries are delayed...so i tot id try canceling my order that i placed on the 29th of jan and the apple reseller says they cannot cancel cos its a customized model etc..i looked up returns policies on the apple Singapore site it says >22. Custom-Configured Product

We are pleased to offer product that is custom-configured to your specifications, and we encourage you to review your order carefully.
Since the product is built to your specifications, the order cannot be changed, modified or canceled once your order has been prepared for shipment.

i fwded this to apple in se asia.. cos there is no way in Hell that the 17" i ordered on the 29th of jan is ready for shipment .. and of course they ignored my email.

WEIRD huh ?

What about this machine makes you think "professional"? Actually looking at the specs on the machine, I'm having trouble differentiating it from any consumer level machine. It has a fast processor, but anything modern will as well. 4-8gigs of RAM is impressive, but also fairly normal. The 320 gig hard drive is about as high as you can go in a laptop right now, but it also comes standard on many laptops under $1000. The graphics card is decent, but it is optimized for games and not in the same league as other high end 17" laptops. Hell, it doesn't even have the right video ports to make hooking up to a projector easy.

That "Dull" laptop might not be as flashy as this thing, but in a professional environment it makes a hell of a lot more sense.

OMG, the online Apple Store still lists a 7-10 day ship time for the 17" MBP. And now the antiglare option is back to making the ship time 2-3 weeks! I am dying to get my hands on this thing, and especially would like to see the glossy and anti-glare in a physical Apple Store side by side...

It's been almost a month since the 17" unibody was announced -- it's getting pretty long. I wonder what is delaying them...

from March 8th to Feb 16-24th

I initially had an order in with an Apple Campus Store: 2.93 GHz, 7200rpm drive. I found out about the ADC discount through these forums and found out I had an old ADC account from 2005, way back when you had to have an ADC account to get the latest XCode. I put the same order in without software pre-installations (that is, I still ordered mobileme, but not pre-installed iwork; amended a retail box by phone). Now, instead of an estimated delivery of March 8th, I'm down to Feb 24th.

2nd March

I ordered my 17" anti-glare, 2.66, 7,200rpm, 4GB MBP with 24" LCD and the person who sold it to me said it would be with me mid Feb. I got the estimate through the email and it said delivered on or before 2nd March... I am in Barbados on a professional shoot then - I did tell the 'salesman' that I needed it by then and he reassured me but has now ceased answering my emails. I'm also perched on a cash stash waiting for the iMacs... It's all doing my head in nearly as much as the PCs I've just got rid of.

I give up.. :mad::apple::mad:

I take it nobody has them and the 7-10 day availability is some kind of BS.

*UPDATE*

Just checked my order status and the shipping has just gone up 8 days to the 10th March. No doubt I'll need anger counselling over this... more expense.

Delayed

I just checked my order status that was due to ship today 2/4 and it has been updated to ship now 2/19. No explanation. No information. Nothing. :(

Got that as well. Checked Apple's website, and it's worse than before, 3-4 weeks...

Called the supplied phone number to find out what the deal is. Talked to someone who couldn't quite articulate what the problem was, and apparently didn't have a script yet. Was told:

o Due to "High Demand"
but:

o "First Come, First Served"
which is it? Then

o It's down to factory delays...
Ah! Truthiness?

I asked them to change me to overnite/weekend shipping, otherwise it's going to realistically add 3-5 more real days (not these mythical business days) on top of everything else. Nope. Could not or would not do it.

I also asked if there was a particular hold up, some option I chose, that was making it take longer. They couldn't firm or deny that either. Basically, I'm stuck with waiting... or if I REALLY want to, I could cancel. Which I'm considering. I need to get work done... and I could easily go down the street and buy a 15 inch in 30 minutes or less. Work to be done, you know? Then either wait a few months and sell it/upgrade, or just keep it.

I suspect if more people call them, they might wake up and offer something back for the "few days" of inconvenience. For some people it's going to be more than a month. Really disappointed here. Come on Apple, I've been drinking your mind control punch for well over a decade, but I've never had this kind of hassle after a product announcement.

whine whine whine :)
