Had a horrible ApplePay experience at the Apple Store today.

I set up my ApplePay after I downloaded ios 8.1. I was able to add 2 cards with little issue.

I needed a new hard drive, so I took an early lunch and went to the Apple store (I didn't want to deal with the crowds during lunch). I figured this would be a quick trip. I would go in, find my drive, and use ApplePay. If ApplePay didn't work, I figured they could ring me up the old way since I was there before lunch.

Well, ApplePay didn't go well. I was in the Apple Store app, found my item, and selected ApplePay. It asked for my finger print, then accepts it, then comes up with a red Billing Address ! error. That's all it said.

I flag down an employee and ask them if they know what is wrong. They didn't know. I only have one address for my credit cards, and it matches the address in my Apple ID, or so I thought.

So I was running out of time, so I had to wait 15 minutes in the line, and ask them to ring me up the old fashioned way. They said they couldn't, that their system was down. They told me I could come back later to buy the drive. Tons of other folks were being told to come back if they wanted to buy anything too. WTF???? Like its no big deal to drive cross-town, find parking, wait in their line, etc. I asked for an alternative, and the kid told me No. So I asked for the manager.

He finally gets free and said one of his guys has Passport training. He said he could have him try to figure out the ApplePay issue. 30 minutes later, we figure out that my street had "Avenue" in it, and apparently, my bank uses "Ave" instead.

Now I have 3 billing addresses in Passport, 2 which I don't need. Does anyone know how to delete the extra billing addresses?

So finally, my "quick" trip to Apple, which took an hour to check out, was over...

When you set up Apple pay, it pulls your address out of your Contact list. I always type out Avenue, and Street, etc. because you never know how folks will abbreviate them (other countries, etc). Apparently, ApplePay or the banks use abbreviations. This is really going to generate a lot of calls to Apple support, and cause frustration.

Even the Apple folks didn't know this. The first thing I asked them when I got the message was weather the bank could be abbreviating Avenue.

Between this glitch, and having to wait in line to pay, only be find out that no one in the store could pay, was frustrating. Boy do I hate the Apple Store, and the Apple Experience. I only go there when I need something quick and no one else in town has it.

That stinks man but honestly the issue is with the banks in my opinion and I'll explain..

I once applied for a credit card a few years ago online and I ran into the same issue where the address I typed in wasn't letter for letter how that bank had my address listed. I then had to wait the following day to speak to someone and it toke more then an hour to correct and verify my identity.

I feel your pain on that but it's not exactly apple's error when it comes to the bank accepting the info provided.

As for deleting the extra address in passport you may want to check passport and Apple pay settings within settings app. Sorry can't help you more but my card isn't supported until November.

That was my first though.. Why would you buy a hard drive there.. It's like going to Best Buy and seeing someone buying well, anything..

Because I needed it quickly for work, not play, and no one else in town carries Thunderbolt drives. Trust me, I shop Best Buy or Newegg, when I can.

I know a lot of folks were flabbergasted and pissed. I had the ApplePay problem, but even worse, Apple's in-house system was down, so no one in the store could pay for anything. Anyone that was buying something, had to came back another time.

As they say on that NFL show... COME ON MAN!!!!

OP could you not use the self-service checkout with the Apple Store app? That's how I've made my purchases for a long time (it seems) and I thought would have been a good "plan B".

The problem is apple pay not allow you to pay retail price on a hard drive, you should pay much less at Amazon.

Yikes. I haven't tried Apple Pay yet. If that's true (and I have no reason to believe you are wrong) it's is a huge step backwards imho. I just returned my wife's 6+ so I don't have an "Apple Pay phone" to look at.

I'm anxious to see responses from other 6/6+ owners.

I'm wondering if the Apple Store App in store purchase thing automatically ties into that store's payment system. If so, it could explain why it wasn't working for you at that time since their overall system was down. I'm just speculating though.

Have the same problem with playstation store, depending upon your bank you have to have your details entered exactly like the bank does.

I'm having the exact same problem with the Apple Store app and my AMEX. I changed the billing address to reflect exactly how it's entered with the AMEX (including zip +4) and I still get a billing address error when I try to use Apple Pay to check out.

I was thinking about being a little more direct. I know they were trying to be funny, but generically speaking I'd like to see how the folks that say those sort of things react if they went to a restaurant, or a gas station, or a cable TV office <shudder> to pay their bill and after 15 minutes they were turned away because the place wasn't taking payments. It may be a first world problem but that's the world some folks live in and it's a problem.

That sucks OP, but when it comes to retail, **** happens sometimes. I work at a Target store and occasionally, the systems act up and there's nothing we could do about it. One time all of the registers except 2 went offline and the issue couldn't be fixed until the next day.

I have never waited in a line at the Apple Store. I use the App and self checkout, you have to log into the Apple Store wifi and you can checkout with any credit card.

No one said anything about this being a "1st World Issue".

It is about people taking time to drive cross town, pick something out, stand in line, then be told to come back another time. This was an hour and half of my time.

the point of the post was to let people know that Apple still has work to do on ApplePay. When ApplePay, registers a Credit Card, it should check the billing address, not wait until you use it.

It was also clear that most of the Apple staff don't know about ApplePay yet.

ApplePay is new so some issues are expected. As for the outage in the store, yeah stuff happens. The bad part was the Apple employees acted like it was no big deal that people wasted their time coming in, and would have to come back again.

I try to buy Apple products anyplace other than the Apple store. I rarely can get in and out quickly.

Hmm, when I was with the Apple Passport guru yesterday, and it did pull the info from my contacts list. I am guessing that if you don't have your address in your contact list, the system prompts you to enter it.

Either way, make sure Avenue vs. Ave and Street vs. St, etc. all match up.

Best Buy price matches! Good way to get something faster than Amazon at the same price

In my experience, not every item is available for self-service. Especially the pricier ones.

LOL, you may be right.

I was buying the Lacie d2 4TB Thunderbolt drive. I did check online, and it looked like the vendors that I trust all wanted MSRP. The only $$$ I would have saved, would have been the $28 tax. Since I needed it quickly for work, it SEEMED like buying it town was the best way to go.

I checked the local Best Buy. they don't stock any Thunderbolt drives. When I was in there, I had to explain to the Specialist what Thunderbolt was. He thought it was a brand.
