iCloud? The service where I take a picture on my iPhone and it takes 15 minutes to get to the iMac in the same room? I would never trust critical data to iCloud. Too flaky. Apple is busy trying to be a bank and a media company (and maybe an automobile manufacturer). I prefer a company that has a single line of business and must keep it successful to stay in business.
Aren't they both AWS?

Off topic but that's a cool profile pic... Very Halloween-ish.. May I ask where it's from? Some Metal album art...?

Thank you! The picture was made by the famous Rodney Matthews who has been involved in many book and album artworks as well, including many metal records for sure. This particular one is a portrait of Arioch, the Lord of Chaos, from Michael Moorcock’s Elric saga (both artists are good friends).

Rodney’s work is outstanding and I encourage everyone new to his art to check them out. Sorry for the OT!

It's not the subscription model that bothers me so much. I have a family subscription so that I can manage things for them. What I don't like about version 8 is the loss of iCloud vaults. AgileBits is a good company and I like their product (long time user), but having my bank account passwords in their cloud makes me nervous. I get it that iCloud is also a cloud service, but Apple has more resources, and more technical expertise to secure that service, or so I feel. Illogical perhaps...more feeling and comfort level. But just look how many "secure" applications running on cloud services have been hacked. So, unless I can get comfortable pushing all 800+ of my passwords into 1Password's cloud, I'm stuck on version 7.
The security model for their cloud service seems pretty solid to me — https://support.1password.com/1password-security/

The key to the whole thing is the master password. If someone obtains that, the vault can be compromised whether it’s stored locally or on any cloud service. Without the master password, the vault data is useless.

I miss 1Password 3. Just been a long downhill slide since then and 1P8 is unusably bad.

I don’t care about the subscription model. But forcing folks into their own cloud, no more independently shareable vaults… and electron for the app? Passwords fail to fill more often than they succeed. Browser extensions randomly stop working every couple weeks. What a pile of 💩

1Password is based in Canada. That also a problem. You use their servers which is a problem.
Why is this a problem for you? Aside from the fact the wallets are encrypted with three layers of protection, even if the data were breached (which has never happened), there is sweet nothing that can be done with it.

I've never had a single problem with v8. v7 was a little unstable with the browser extension, but otherwise, it was rock solid, and v8 which I've used since beta, has been perfect.

If you don't want a cloud password manager (which suits the vast majority of users), try Passbolt which is akin to vintage versions of 1password.

I paid for it ONCE. Now I'm moving to ONLY keychain.
I used to be a paid customer but decided to abandon them once they switched to a subscription model. I don't mind supporting software I love, but I did not love 1Password enough.

I now let Chrome manage my website passwords, it works well with Mac iPhone and iPad even though on iDevices I am using Safari - no issues.

For online payments I use Revolut - virtual one time burner cards for most, virtual multi use cards for things that need a sub. I don't need a password manager for that, Revolut has all the features I need to pay for things quickly (including a Chrome plugin).

I'm not following. How does Revolut help with password management?

It seems your requirements are very slight compared to mine - just website passwords entered from a browser. I keep much more information in 1Password and use it in more situations than browsers. It makes sense not to spend money on such simple requirements.

I would never use Chrome though. I also don't use Gooey products; it's very hard to get that goo off your hands.

How does Revolut help with password management?
It handles the online payment auto-fill which is a part of what 1Password used to do for me. With an added benefit of using one-time virtual cards, so I can't get scammed or tricked into a sub, as card is destroyed after being used.

So, browsers handle the browser passwords, Revolut handles payments, other random bits and pieces I keep in locked Notes. Everything syncs between my two Macs, iPad and iPhone.
