AgileBits this week announced that it has released a new version of its popular password manager 1Password for Mac with macOS Big Sur optimizations, including a new icon and design tweaks to the password generator and item fields.

1Password 7.7 also introduces support for unlocking with an Apple Watch on Macs with Touch ID, as well as many newer models of the Mac mini, iMac, and Mac Pro. When enabled, you'll receive a notification on your Apple Watch any time you open 1Password on macOS Catalina or later. Simply double click the side button on the Apple Watch to unlock the app. Unlocking the app with Touch ID is still an option — both can be enabled at once.

1Password for Safari has also been revamped, and now intelligently offers logins, credit cards, and identities right on a webpage.

AgileBits informed us that 1Password currently runs through Apple's translation layer Rosetta 2, adding that it is excited about the opportunities native Apple Silicon support will offer and hopes to have more to say on the subject soon.

1Password 7.7 is a free update for all 1Password subscribers.

See no reason with unlock with Apple Watch on TouchID Macs, personally I have disabled unlock/authenticate with Apple Watch om Macs with TouchID.
Defiantly a nice one for Desktop Macs with no TouchID

I wanted this for my iMac without TouchID, personally I have disabled unlock/authenticate with Apple Watch om Macs with TouchID
It requires the computer to have a Secure Enclave, same as the unlock computer with watch feature of the O/S.

I am a bit confused the article says iMac. However, I do not think the 2019 iMac has T1 or T2.

I'd just like for the TouchID functionality to work half the time. But then again I'm on version 6 because I don't want to be forced into monthly payments just to store some passwords in my own iCloud that I already pay for. Will probably be forced into it eventually when I get an Apple Silicon Mac and they stop supporting Intel down the road and remove Rosetta 2 from macOS entirely to make it snappier, much like they did with the original.

The 2020 iMac does.

Dang it. :/

Creative idea to compensate for the lack of TouchID in MagicKyboard.
I wonder if they can make the feature work with Bluetooth only since I have my wifi off on my Mac.

Within 5 minutes of updating I found so many bugs and issues that for the first time with this app, I reinstalled a previous version, 7.6, and fortunately it worked. Some of the issues: logins on safari often didn't work, mini window no longer remembers it's screen position, close circle on the mini window doesn't appear unless you click multiple times on where it is supposed to be. and a few other odds and ends. perhaps the worst update I've ever seen with 1Password. It's like it has never been tested.

I had the same problems after updating. A restart fixed it for me

how did you reinstall a previous version? Did you have a copy of the app downloaded from the dev site that was backed up?

Why pay when you can use iCloud keychain, or LastPass for free?
Keychain is a great option, but can't handle TOTP. (That can be resolved by using Authy or Google Authenticator.)
The main reason I use 1Password is that I can't use Keychain on my work-PC (Windows 🤢). Nor can I share passwords with the family.
And 1Password offers more than just password management :)

But if I didn't have those needs, I'd use Keychain...

Why pay when you can use iCloud keychain, or LastPass for free?

Cost aside, what are the top 3-5 compelling arguments for using iCloud keychain or LastPass specifically over 1Password?
